Chapter 6

— Hi Rob.

I sit and watch him fiddle with his computer for a few minutes.
Neither of them says anything. Is he mad at me for the joke before lunch? Should be it. Sometimes I just miss the point. After a few more minutes I decide to break the silence.
"Look Rob, if you're looking like that because of the jokes I made with your wife, I'm sorry—"
“Janeth wants a divorce.
He cuts me off and there's nothing about me that isn't amazement.
- What?
Because? I can't hide my surprise.
“She still hasn't told me why, she just told me she wanted to.
He looks up and I see my friend with red eyes.
“But Rob, what happened?
Did something happen that might make her want this?
- This is the point.
- He gets up in exasperation - There was nothing. I didn't do anything, I always kept in line since we got married, I always liked her, I always did everything for her.
That's true.
Robert is the most loyal guy I know. Seeing my friend in such agony is very sad for me. I like Janeth, but if she's making my friend suffer, I can't have good thoughts about her right now. What the fuck is this woman doing? I prefer to keep quiet because if I speak I might say something Rob doesn't like because I know she loves her.
“I can't understand, Nick.
— He continues — And the worst thing was his silence. She kept looking at me like she didn't say anything after she asked me that and when I asked, do you know what she did? She didn't answer me, she didn't answer me, Nick.
"What the hell, man.
I'm sorry. I just say, leaving my not-so-good thoughts to myself.
“I can't do this, Nick.
I'm not giving this damn divorce that easy, she owes me at least an explanation.
Of course you must.
They've been married since before we finished college. I haven't seen many fights between them, Rob has always been a good husband so I don't understand how Janeth could just want to break her fucking heart.
“I don't know what's going on with my marriage, Nick, but I know I can't just let it go down like this.
He looks desperate.
Suddenly I have an idea.

"Listen Robert, how do you feel about going out today, just like old times?
" — I want to lift my friend's spirits — Drink them all and go home regretting what we drank like we used to?
He smiles a sad smile and I keep nodding my head with wide eyes, making fun.

“Okay Nick, let's get drunk.
- His sad smile gets a little more cheerful, I smile back making a sign with both thumbs up.
"Do you mind if I bring a girl?
" — I remember making an appointment with Charlie's secretary.
“Make yourself comfortable, Nicholas.

He agrees, but is scattered.
He doesn't seem to be with me. It's annoying to see him like this, Rob is a great friend and always helped me even in times when I wasn't enjoying myself very much. I went through some terrible times and he was always the one who was on my side, I can't leave him like that. I'll think of something really cool to lift your spirits today.
The rest of the afternoon passes quickly and is very productive.
After the three sessions scheduled for today, I check with my receptionist for tomorrow's client schedules and call it a day. I get home as soon as possible. After a cold shower to relieve the fatigue of a day's work, I get dressed and call a taxi. I shuffle Linkin Park on my stereo to play while I wait. Better not drive, let's get drunk and I don't want to end up in the hospital at the end of the night. Three songs later the taxi arrives and we go to the University.
Traffic is good and we don't stop at traffic lights along the way.
Just a few blocks before arriving, the car stops at a red traffic light. I look out the window and see people leaving their jobs. It's almost six, but here in Miami, the sun takes a while to set, so many go straight to the beach. I always liked the sea a lot, because I loved to swim and especially to surf, but I haven't done that for a long time. The sea has its charms, but the fact that I live opposite it or have no one to share the view has perhaps taken away from me the magic it exerts on other people.
The light remains red and a scene catches my eye.
I see a woman coming out of a diner clinging to a guy a little taller than her. Her head is buried in her neck while he is leaning a little. She seems to be saying something in her ear. My senses alert SEX flashing neon tones and my anger bubbles up when I see it's Janeth. Damn it! She is cheating on my friend with this guy who is like party rice all over her. Cum. That's why she wants a divorce. She already has another cock going into her.
The light turns green and the car starts moving while I still stare through the glass in astonishment.
The driver turns the corner, but not before I can turn to the back window of the cab and see the fucking bitch kiss the motherfucker before getting into her car.
The taxi parks in front of the University and I get out to find the secretary still thinking about the scene from before.
When I'm in the hallway, I see her leaving the rectory and I crack a smile holding out my hand to her. I do my standard procedures of compliments and first caresses to get her in the mood, even though part of my concentration is on another woman. Robert's fucking wife. I have to tell him what I saw, he has to know that his bitch's wife is giving him a nice pair of horns. But how will I do it? If I tell him, he'll suffer a lot, but if I don't, I'll keep it eating away at me inside. Worse, if he finds out from someone and knows I haven't told him anything, maybe he won't forgive me. I need to count. But I need to talk to the bitch first.
I feel a hand massaging my leg.
I look to the side and remember that I have company. She's probably trying to get my attention since I closed up like a shell when I got in the car. I start talking to her about my plans for the night, and after a brief moment of misunderstanding where she misunderstands my saying I invited a friend of mine to our little party, she opens up to me completely.
We're in front of the club waiting for Robert.
I hope he doesn't cancel. The sound coming from inside is loud and with an electrifying beat. The girl next to me is already stomping her feet to the beat of the music, which is really infectious. A few more minutes and Robert appears dressed casually. His shirt exposes his snake tattoo that takes up most of his arm, curled from the beginning of the cuff with the tail to the shoulder where the head is. With that outfit, tattoo, spiky hair, and a few days' stubble, no one would say he's a doctor. We greet each other and I almost make a faux pas not knowing the girl's name, but I barely escape when she introduces herself to Robert.
Inside, the sound is loud enough and soon we are presented with a small round table with high chairs that let our feet swing when we are seated.

— A round of tequila.
I shout to the waiter over the music and he nods.
“And then Nicholas tells me he's been in some trouble.
Allison starts bringing up the subject. Did I count?
Robert looks from me to me with an “Oh, really?
” look. I shrug.
“I just said you were a little sick and it wouldn't be just the two of us.
He smiles and shakes his head.
“Well, it's no secret, Nick, it's okay.
— then he looks at her and continues — Yeah, I'm in some trouble and my good friend called me to get drunk, I hope it doesn't bother you.
“Oh of course not, and I'm sorry I was so indiscreet right away.

- It's all right.

The waiter brings our drinks and a few more after that during the night.
The conversation flows comfortably between the three of us. We laughed and told each other some “bad things”. Never once do I mention bitch Janeth, Rob looks like he's having fun and I don't want to bring him down. For a moment I allow myself to imagine that Robert will get back at this bitch and I smile to myself. But he wouldn't, he's too loyal.
That's when I realize there's a brunette babe with bob hair and a short “fuck me” dress that's very interested in my friend.
It's worth trying. Without Robert and Allison noticing I nod my head to the girl, pointing at him and at the same time asking "do you want him?". She nods with mischievous eyes and I smile in confirmation.
I try to push Robert on top of the fuck me girl, but he's not interested.
Much less when Allison acts like a nosy and talks about how wrong it is that I'm throwing my married friend into someone else's. Curious, I ask how she knows he's married since I haven't told her anything about it.
“Maybe it's because he's wearing a ring on his married hand.

Me and Rob look at each other and his gaze drops instantly.
Here it is. Janeth dominated her thoughts at that moment, I'm sure. Now fuck that! I spent all night avoiding the subject for this girl to come here and fuck everything up.
“I won't be married for long.
– Rob says bitterly.
She looks at him blankly and then looks at me, questioning.
I'm frowning. Really angry.
— He and his wife are getting divorced.
— I bite my tongue not to say what I saw in the end of the afternoon — I invited him to drink to forget all this. Thanks for reminding him. - I shoot annoyed.
"Oh I'm sorry Robert, I didn't…" She puts her hand to her mouth.

“Okay, you had no way of knowing,” Rob soothes.
“Don't be so grumpy, Nick. The poor girl was at a disadvantage in the matter.
I agree and apologize for the outburst with Allison.
I hope the incident doesn't end my chances of screwing her today. But I don't want to think about that right now, I want Rob to go up to Miss “I feel like fucking you” and take her to a motel room, a dark alley, or even the bathroom here at the club. But he doesn't accept it at all. In the end, we just ordered one more round of drinks and then another.
We say goodbye to Rob when we arrive at the apartment complex where he lives and head straight for the beach.
I don't tell Allison that I live a few feet from here, partly because I don't want her in my house, partly because I have a very exciting idea: having sex on the sand under the moon.
"So this is your idea of romanticism?
" - She asks looking at the sea - Get a girl drunk and then take her to the beach and eat her?
“It's not a romantic idea.
It's just an exciting idea. I tell the truth bluntly. There's nothing romantic about it. The truth is, the prospect of someone seeing us excites the hell out of me.
"Exci-exciting idea, is that it?
" “She looks pretty drunk since she's talking like she doesn't know the words.
I smile and sit down on the sand pulling her onto my lap.
When she's straddling me, I pounce on her mouth with enough fervor to make the seawater evaporate if we were there. It will be a beautiful night under the moon.
