Six Moods In A Minute

Nick's Pov

He reminded me of my younger siblings, they hated studying. And unless I forced them to sit down and read a text book they would never open one. I was probably thinking like a parent but what it was like that with my siblings and Aiden.

Aiden and I had been studying after school for about ten days now and there were a few things that I had observed. First, he really didn't like studying at all. But most of the people our age would perhaps agree with him. Second, he needed more breaks than actual study periods. He'd study for ten minutes and then enjoy a twenty minutes break. Third, he was really not intrested in scoring well and was not concerned about his future. That concerned me, he was now a friend to me and I couldn't help but worry about his future. Fourth, the more I spent time with him the softer his hair looked. I had not touched them only because I didn't want to look like a creep. I had touched Philip's hair but, we were closer and Philip's hair were no less than lifeless hay. Mine were the same, maybe that's why I was tempted to touch Aiden's hair which looked like shiny threads of silk flowing in the wind. I made a mental note to myself to ask him about his shampoo later.

"Let's take a break. I'm tired,"

Here we go again.

"You studied for exactly seven minutes," I pointed.

"And that's a lot," he complained.

"You won't be able to score better if you keep these breaks up,"

"I don't really have to score better," he shrugged.

"You are just like my younger siblings. You have potential but you don't want to put in efforts. It's annoying.

My frustration might have showed on my face because I saw something on his face which I couldn't tell apart. The emotions on his face came in and flew by in the blink of eye.

"Since you really want me to study, how about we make a bet?" he moved closer to me.

"What?" I was confused.

"If I get a B+ grade you'll have to gift me something of my choice," he sounded very excited.

"You'll have to get at least an A grade or O grade if you want something,"

"Fine, an A grade," he said pouting his lips.

His lips were very pink, like that of a baby. To be honest, Aiden was no less than a baby.

"And I can't gift you something expensive, okay?" I reminded him.

"I might ask you to do my assignments as a gift," he smiled cheekily at me.

I deadpanned.

This dude better be kidding me.

"I am definitely not doing your assignments,"

"When's exactly the next test?" he asked ignoring my statement.

"Next week on the seventeenth,"

"Then I have a lot of time in my hand, I'll finish reading the novel first." he shoved his hand inside his bag to get a book.

"Which novel?" I asked.

"Claire DeWitt and the City of the Dead,"

"Sara Gran?

He nodded saying yes.

His tastes were similar to mine.

"If you want more novel recommendations tell me. I'll bring you some of mine.

"You'll let me read your novels?" his eyes shone with happiness.

I nodded my head with approval.

"Then bring me some,"

"Genre?

"Anything's that's good enough according to you."

"Alright, I'll bring you some books after we are done with this test. Now let's head back home?

Aiden's bobbed his like a pigeon looking absolutely mentally unstable.

I was finally done reading all the novels I had at home. Studying with Aiden was way better than I thought it would be. Explaining concepts to him was quite easy unlike Philip and he was also very patient and obedient. I didn't need to go through the concepts again and again because of our study sessions together. But I wasn't sure if he would still want to study with me after the detention punishment. He didn't enjoy studying already.

I decided to go to a nearby library to get some more books. The library was very quite and there was barely anyone there so I usually used to go there on weekends instead of school. But today I was just missing that cosy place. I threw on my jacket since I was too lazy to change and stepped out of the house. The library was a little far from my place so it took me sometime to reach there.

"Good afternoon! I'm here to return these books," I said as I stepped inside.

I looked around for the old librarian who usually sat at the reception table but he was nowhere to be found. I went inside to look for someone.

"Aiden?

What was he doing here?

"Aiden, can you hear me?" He had his face engraved in a book and he was paying absolute zero attention to me.

"Aiden!" I tapped on his shoulder.

"Ahh! Oh Nick, you scared me," he screamed. He was panting heavily. Scaring him was effortless.

"What are you doing here?" I asked fixing my glasses.

"I work as a receptionist here," he replied.

"What? I come here every weekend, I have never seen you here before,"

"I don't work on weekends," he chuckled.

"Oh, I came here to return some books,"

"Sure, let's go to the reception," he grabbed my wrist and dragged me to the table.

"I didn't think you'd be working as a receptionist,"

"Well, I get to read a lot of comics here. And this place is not popular so rarely anyone comes here which means less work to do," he smiled at me proudly.

He was proud because he used his intelligence to laze around? Typical Aiden.

"Why were you in the back of the library?

"No one comes here anyways so I just thought of reading in a more comfortable chair,"

"Makes sense,"

"You are very chatty today," Aiden suggested looking suspiciously at me.

"Am I?" I raised my eyebrows.

He just gave me a nod.

He scanned all the books I had brought to return while talking to me and now I was helping him put them back on the shelves.

"Nick, do you come here often?

"Yes, I mostly study here or the school library," I replied looking at new books on a shelf.

"Then do you want to study here? School library will soon be crowded, exams are not far. And also this place is more quite," he suggested.

"Sounds like a good idea, when is your detention ending?

"I think tomorrow or the day after," he said scratching his chin.

"Okay, let's confirm with Mr Joshua and we can study here after that.

Aiden clapped his hands and hopped away with happiness.

What even?

This guy went through six different moods in a minute.
