Chapter 3: The Mayor’s son.

I thought the young man had seen me. However, with the way his eyes briefly glanced at my direction as though in a second of hesitation, I was sure he had not. He shortly after, returned to his glorious moment of enjoying the first set of drizzling snowflakes on his face.

I was not sure whether the bright light outdoors had contributed to the illumination of his flawless skin, or perhaps, if that was just how naturally good looking his skin is. As I was nothing much of a beautiful woman, or at least, thought about myself in that sense, flawlessly beautiful people always reminded me of my secret insecurities.

Envy stung my throat.

He wore a milky white turtle neck sweater and a black jeans that perfectly matched with the color of his boots. I had on several occasions, encountered with handsome men at college, workplace, streets, and different places but specifically, the young man’s calm looking face was unique in a different sense. Strangely, he made my heart fluttered for reasons I was not sure of. He seemed somewhat at peace with himself.

Something warm touched my shoulders, almost sent me into a panic If I had not seen the redhead with silver braces that instantly swam into my view. I was too focused on the outdoors to notice Louisa's presence in the room.

“Winter has finally come. Hoping I have not ruined a beautiful moment here” She looked excited.

“Oh my dear. Today I have experienced one of the most amazing moments of life. I witnessed the fall of the first snow, and that young man just happen to remind me of my childhood memories”

“That young man?” Louisa wiped off a portion of the glass with the ends of her sweater as she struggled to observe the standing young man “Is him. The Mayor’s son. Its too cold out there, does he not feel that? Wow Bryan...

My heart skipped a beat when I heard that, and it felt like I was running out of breathe, though I still maintained a calm, unaffected face. I returned my eyes and fixed them on the figure still standing in the snow “I see the reason why everyone favors him. He has this gentle looking face”

“Not just the face Lex, Bryan is overall a good and gentle young man. He takes life simple despite being the son of Lord Mayor. I learned that his older brother is quite the troublesome type. But Bryan is absolutely different”

“Interesting” I murmured in reply.

Louisa and I both silently watched as the young man started shaking off his chocolate brown hair, the snowflakes fell off to the cold grounds before he turned his direction to the North and began to walk out of our sight.

“Met with Jane and Mr Prescott earlier. I came to keep you company since you do not like to come out from this room”

“I love that” I reached for the curtain and unleashed the strap, rolling it down to cover the glass window “But aren’t you supposed to be packing for the weekend?

“Doctor Smith is not in favor of me going home this time”

“Ahh. Too bad. Perhaps next time he might let you off. Hopefully”

Louisa sat down on Jane’s empty bed “I do not think he would” She shrugged the seconds away “You ate Lunch?

I hesitated to reply for a moment, unconsciously putting my hand on my stomach as though I was waiting for it to talk “Feels like I do... For now” I managed with a smile “So how is Thomas doing lately?

“Not very good. He’s wiping his time playing video games on his new PC”

A knock came on the door, prompting Louisa and I to quickly snapped our attentions to the woodwork, in anticipation to see who was coming in. We watched it slowly parting open as the figure of a young man stepped through, holding onto a silver tray in his hands. Milky colored sweater, a black jeans and matching boots; a sight that instantly made my body shivered and froze. The pain in my heart became ignited as a result of its abnormal palpitations and my faulty inability to inhale enough air to my lungs.
