Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Summer arrived just in time for the interview the next day with ten minutes to spare. She walked into the office in a knee ripped blue mom jeans, a black v-neck top tucked only in front with white sneakers and hair packed neatly in a bun.

The interviewer who Summer presumes to be not more than thirty years of age scanned her eyes through Summer's Cv scrupulously.

"Highest Education says High school. Plans of furthering?"

"Mmm-hmmm," Summer nods.

Alice finally shifts her focus from the paper to Summer.

"Tell me, Ms. Summer, Would you rather always say everything on your mind or never speak again?"

"As much as I love to share my opinions, I am one to know when and where to keep my mouth shut"

"Would you rather have more time or money?" Alice studied Summer closely awaiting her response.

Truth be told Summer wants both time and money. Money to finish school and work in a badass DA's office. Time to make up for the years she's lost.

"Both" Summer cleared get throat.

"That's quite greedy of you Ms. Summer"

Summer chuckled nervously as the room grew intense. She didn't expect such questions.

"I like you but you have no experience whatsoever regarding this field and I'm not sure what I can do about that?"

Summer's intestines felt like a knot as sadness and disappointment consumed her brain.

"Can you drive?"

"Yes, I can." She exhaled deeply.

"We'll get back to you Ms. Summer," Alice said after a while of scanning the CV again.

Summer had heard that word too much for the past couple of months and it is no surprise that she didn't feel shocked when Alice said it.

She went on her knees immediately and began to beg.

"I'm sorry but I can't leave. I need this job and I promise not to disappoint you. I'll carry out all that is needed of me excellently. I won't be a bother. I'll bark when I'm told to and crawl when I'm told to. I'll work my ass out if need be"

Alice needed someone that would mind their business and focus on the job, someone who talks less, and someone who really needed the job and won't care if it meant picking trash onset. Summer had it all except her lack of experience and Alice knew the perfect job for her. Summer strikes her to be different and she was more than willing to make an exception for her.

"What do you think about picking our cast up, driving them down to the location and back to the hotel every day of shoot, cleaning the set and emptying trash cans, and supporting crew members when packing and preparing items?"

"I'd love that" Summer slowly rose up to her feet.

"The details of the production would be sent to your mail. All crew members are to resume next week before filming begins the coming week and Ms. Summer, don't let me regret bending the rules for you"

"I promise I won't. Thank you so much"

Summer squealed out of the office in excitement. She finally got a job that pays well. She stepped out into the open, her arms stretched out as she took in air into her lungs like she had been suffocating. Droplets of rain landed on her face as she smiled at the sky. Their rent will be paid in no time. Even though the duration of the film spans for two months, she was beyond ecstatic because she would be paid well for that short period.

The rain got heavier and Summer hurried under a porch to avoid getting drenched.

She immediately dialed Camille's number to tell her the great news. It rang a couple of times, and when she said hey, Summer couldn't help but pass on the excitement.

"Ahhh, Summer! What's with the screaming? Did you win a lottery?"

"I got the job"

It was Camille's turn to do the screaming and Summer was too excited to hypocritically reprimand her.

"I'll see you at home in a bit" Summer hung up and tucked her phone in the back pocket.

She stood under the porch for over thirty minutes before it stopped raining.

Summer eventually stepped out to catch the coming bus but a red Ferrari abruptly sped past the bus and drove through a puddle causing her to be splashed by water.

Her mouth was wide open in shock as she tried to comprehend what just happened to her and worse because the driver of the car didn't stop to apologize. The level of inconsideration and lack of sympathy car drivers have for pedestrians during the wet weather in the city is quite frightening.

She was lucky to find a spot to sit on the bus but was extremely cold.

As the bus drove on, she caught a glimpse of the car from before and stood up quickly to alight forgetting the fact that it would cost her another hour to get a bus headed to her destination.

She knocked on the driver's side of the Ferarri and Nate shooed her away with a wave. She motioned him to wind down the window and he did by a fraction.

"I can't sign you an autograph or take pictures with you" Nate assumed and begun to wind up when Summer put her hands in between to stop the motion.

"I am not here for a stupid autograph or a claptrap picture. I don't even know who you are which means you need to do a lot more work. Look at me! I am drenched because you splashed water on me and instead of you to right the wrong by apologizing, you took off and didn't mind if I was okay or not."

Nate looked at her from head and bugged his head out the window to see her feet through his dark shades. He reached for his cheque in the car drawer and wrote on it.

He handed the paper out the window in an unkind and discourteous manner.

Summer scoffed and folded her arms in disgust.

"Since you have a lot of cash to spare plus no regard for humanity, I don't know what your problem is but I bet it's hard to pronounce and pray the rest of your day is as unpleasant, rude, shitty, ugly and vague minded.

"It must be difficult for you, exhausting your entire insulting vocabulary in one sentence" He held back the cheque.

"I was not insulting you, " Summer laughed and then continued "I was describing you" She turned around to leave. "Que te Folle un Pez" she said lastly before walking away.

Summer is not one to throw insults or tantrums but sometimes people mistake her calm nature for stupidity and she wouldn't have this man insult her. She ought to thank Camille for letting her catch on to her cuss words.
