Chapter 7

The following morning, Catherine woke up earlier than her usual schedule and helped her Aunt with the congee business. Her classes would start at around ten in the morning so she still had enough time to help.

An hour before ten, she was ready to leave for school and while on the jeepney, she couldn’t stop thinking about her first kiss, and she was imagining what would happen if Sanver would deepen it like in the movies?

The professor for her first subject didn’t show up so Catherine decided to spend her vacant time at the library as usual. “Ursal!” She didn’t expect to see the woman reading a book at the library.

“Oh hi, Medina! Sit down and tell me the update,” Jenelyn said.

“There’s no good news yet,” Catherine answered.

Jenelyn pouted her lips and wondered what’s wrong. With her beauty and witty brain, she couldn't believe it that no one was interested in Catherine. “Let’s go somewhere,” she believed that Catherine needed to replace her profile picture with something pleasing in the eye. Her current photo was taken on her high school graduation, and she shouldn’t have allowed her to use it.

“Where are we going?” She inquired.

“Let’s take new photos,” Jenelyn informed Catherine when they’re heading to the school’s garden. “This place is perfect as your background,” she said.

Catherine didn’t react and just allow Jenelyn to take her photos. She did as she was told and pose for Jenelyn’s camera.

“Come here and look at your photos, whoah, aren’t you beautiful?” Jenelyn was amazed that she captured her beauty perfectly. “Come on, let’s update your profile,” she said and emailed the picture to Catherine.

Together, they looked for an internet café where they could rent a computer. The money that Jenelyn lent to her was still in her keeping and she didn’t plan to spend it yet. She was not tech-savvy, but Jenelyn taught her everything she needed to know and she was forever grateful with her.

Just a few minutes after her new pictures were posted, Catherine started to receive emails from foreigners and she couldn’t believe it. “Ursal, look at this!” She showed her monitor to her classmate and she couldn’t contain her happiness because it could be the start of something new and exciting!

“Wow. So, what are you waiting for? Don’t waste your time and start replying with their mails.” Jenelyn ordered Catherine to focus on her emails.

She was very excited about the numerous emails she got that she almost forgot about Sanver. “Oh my God,” she hurried to the back gate when it was already five minutes after six.

Catherine was catching her breath when his car stopped beside her. She didn’t wait for him to open the door and just let herself in. “I almost forgot about you,” she didn’t plan to offend him and she was just telling the truth.

“I knew it. This was my third time to be here, you know it’s illegal to park so I have move and circled the area once more. Anyway, I’m glad that you’re finally here. So how're your studies?” He asked.

“It’s great, we had some activities today for the coming intramurals.” She answered.

“I see. Hmm, let’s have Japanese food for dinner.” He informed her.

“You decide, Sanver.” She said as she didn’t know anything about dining out in the city. Her knowledge was only limited to fast food like Mcdonalds and Jollibee. There’s Orange Brutus and Dimsum Break, too.

“Thanks for understanding, don’t worry because you’re going to like it.” There was a Japanese restaurant in Robinson and he was there before with his colleagues and their food was superb. Sanver parked his car in the basement and joked about the snake man who was rumored to own half of Robinsons.

She couldn’t tell him that she was scared and just grabbed unto his arms as they ascended the stairs in going to the restaurant. As usual, it was Sanver who ordered their food.

“Try that one, it’s delicious.” Sanver pointed the green paste in a small pate and she obeyed.

“What is this called?” She asked Sanver before she put a spoonful into her mouth.

“It’s called wasabi,” he answered and stifled a laugh when Catherine used a spoon to scoop it. Her sense of humor was somehow extraordinary and she knew when to play. He was having fun until Catherine put a spoonful of wasabi into her mouth. He tried to stop her but it was too late.

Tears flowed out from her eyes and she felt like her head would explode from the strong flavor of the wasabi that Sanver asked her to try. She shot daggers at the man while drinking a glass of water. She finished at least three glasses but it’s still the same.

Sanver requested ice cream from the waiter and he needed it very quick for Catherine. “I’m sorry, I thought you were just kidding when you scooped it,” he apologized. “Here, this could help.” He was not sure about it but ice creams were sweet and cold and he believed that it could help Catherine.

Catherine refused to talk as she was very uncomfortable and just focused on the ice cream he gave her. “You’re mean,” she accused him when she was feeling a little okay.

“I’m sorry,” for the nth time, he apologized and he truly felt sorry for his action towards the woman.

The dinner was disastrous and Sanver felt bad for the woman who had to suffer because of him. “Have you been to the Tops?” He asked Catherine as they walked towards the parking lot.

The Tops was one of the tourist spots in Cebu. It’s a viewing deck that offered a spectacular view of the entire city at night. The place was romantic and perfect for lovers or to people like him and Catherine who was still starting to go out.

“Not yet,” she answered.

“Let’s go there tonight Kate,” he said but it took her some time to answer.

“Yeah, why not?” She has never been to that place and she only heard it from her classmates. They said it was nice and she would love to see it herself.

“Good girl,” he assisted her in going inside his car.

The road which led them to the Top was rough and windy. Sanver was just lucky because it wasn’t his first time to drive to the Tops. He had dated several women in the past and it was a routine to treat them with good food and to bring them to beautiful places.

When they reached their destination, her mood changed into 180 degrees. She used to spend a lot of time on the hill near their house while waiting for a falling star, and the place where Sanver brought her, had the same aura and vibes. She felt relaxed and calm, and maybe a falling star would be kind enough to show itself tonight. She enjoyed the notable view of the entire city from the top but it was getting cold and she shivered.

Sanver noticed how Catherine rubbed her palm on her arms and he knew that she was cold, and was fast enough to lend her his arms and put it around her shoulders. “Are you still cold?

“Of course. Did you expect that your arm can take away the coldness of the wind?” She snapped at him and rolled her eyes when the man assumed that his arms could make her warm. “If you’re a blanket, then maybe you can make me warm.” She added.

“Then’s go somewhere with a blanket,” he said.

Catherine was confused but still followed him when he stand up and walked towards the parked vehicle. “Are we going home?” She asked but the man didn't answer to her question.
