Chapter Three: A Day Not Expected

*Neil's POV*

She is delicate like a fragile glass object. Her brown orbs keep searching for something on my face or maybe she is checking me out.

Ha, no she isn't .

Well, why not?

"I am sorry! I wasn't paying attention." She apologises and interrupts the argument in my head.

"No it's fine. Are you okay?" I ask her, concerned. The present confused expression on her face makes me realise I am still holding her.

I help her stand and she settles up straight and answers, "I'm fine. Sorry once again."

"It's a pleasure actually." She looks around and I regret my flirtious take."So what's up?" I jam my hands in my pockets.

"I am new here, I am here for my sister's wedding." Her weary tone is bored. But her accent is what stands out, she definitely isn't from here.

"What a coincidence? I'm here for meeting my brother's fiance, he is waiting for me. Maybe I'll see you later." I wave at her and leave.

"Excuse me," her voice rises behind me,"Are you Vivian Khurana's brother?" Her sentence pulls me back. How does she know?

"Yeah! How'd you know?!" I ask her, surprised. Are you, Neil? Girls know you here. But she ain't from here! I remind myself.

"Because I am Maya Dobrial's sister. She is his fiance." She says.

Maya Dobrial? Of course! She's Vivian's fiancé. I am here to meet her.

"Oh! But I've never seen you. I mean I have seen Maya but not you." She raises an eyebrow with an amused expression plastered on her face,"By the way what's your name?" I ask.

"Ritwika Dobrial, but call me Ritz everyone knows me by that name. What's yours?"

"Neil Khurana, the one and only."

"Oh," She chuckles nervously and blushes. "Nice to meet you Neil." She extends her hand and I shake it. "Same here." I reply with an equally nervous smile.

"Hey Neil! When did you come? I see you have already met Ritwika." My dad's voice echoes in the gigantic lobby. We both say yes and walk towards the rest.

I am acquainted with all the Dobrials and Ritz with the Khuranas. Us being the kids of the family are left alone while the others help themselves with topics we won't understand.

"So you wanna hang out sometime?" I ask Ritz.

"Sure." Her tone says the otherwise. It seemed awkward that she isn't showing any interest in me. So I call this out.

"See if you don't wanna then be straight about it. I am fine with one less girl not interested in me."

"Neil I am just a little nervous okay? You are like the first person I know here who is my age. I don't know how Indian teens are." She explains herself. "And what? Not interested? Where are you going at?"

"Oh no no no. I didn't mean that. I am just not used to girls being so nervous around me. You know except for a few. You are different for me." I pause. "The thing is if you were an Indian girl you wouldn't have talked to me at all."

"Why?"

"Because when a guy talks to a girl here the girl just assumes that he wants to get into her pants."

"Oh my gosh." She laughs and slaps me on my shoulder. "That is hilarious. But not entirely false? Is it?" She asks amused.

"Uh..."

"Damn. I was just testing you. So it is true." Her laughter dissolves and she sounds a little disappointed. "Boys will be boys. Around the whole world. What is it with you? What have we- You know what? I shouldn't be having this discussion with you. See you later. Maybe? Maybe not?"

She walks out leaving me speechless.

*Ritz's POV*

Just when I leave from Neil my phone rings. "Hey!" I pick up Marissa's call. She cannot stop demanding me for more updates.

"Hello! In India?!" She sounds over joyed.

"Yup." I reply.

"When did you get there? And you told me that you'd call me once you got there. You always forget me. You have that short term memory loss." I chuckle at her grumpy tone.

This girl is so stubborn. She wants everything. Sometimes she is like a spying mother and on the other times she's a demanding little sister. Currently she is in the role of the spying, seeking mother.

"Miss Forgetful, that rather suits you. And I'm sorry my Mata (mother). Happy?" I smirk at the comment.

"Mata?" Marissa asks.

"Mother in Hindi." I answer rather proud. At least I know what they call mother in Hindi.

"Wow you learned Hindi? Within a day?! Is it that easy?" Marissa teases me. I can imagine her sticking her tongue out at me.

"No! You idiot, I know some words in Hindi okay. And now I'll probably learn it within no time, at last I am a born genius." I joke.

Marissa lets out a bark of laughter,"Oh really?" she says between her laughing,"I mean that's the spirit, hope you cope up with the conditions there. And one more thing, you're my reporter for the wedding. You will have to cover the whole event for me. Miss me! Report to me!"

"No freaking-" before I could say "way" she hangs up on the phone. Oh that bitch. I won't do that!

I go to Maya who is now sitting on a sofa next to the reception and elbow her. She doesn't say anything. I give her a slight push, nothing. I ruffle her hair, she just moves my hands off. Engrossed in a conversation with her fiancé.

"Maya!" I finally exclaim. She pushes me away and tears me with her ferocious gaze.

"What do you want?!" she barks.

I smirk,"Sorry love birds but I want to go to my room."

"Then go. Why are you troubling me?" Maya raises her voice.

"Hello, you have the card to open the room. Hand it over." I order. She hands over the card and I move towards the lift along with my bags and gesture to mom that 'I am going.'

Neil. I definitely am not fond of him but I got to give him another chance. He is technically my relative and my only shot at making friends in Dehradun. Maybe a little test will reveal what this dude is actually made up of.

Ding!

The doors of the lift open awaking me from my curious thoughts. I stroll out and look for my room. After finding it I swipe the card and unlock the room.

Looking at my suite for the next few weeks I feel that it is well furnished, a dresser on the left then a wardrobe. A king sized bed which I'll share with my sister and medium sized L.E.D television hanging on the wall in front of the bed. Perfect position! There is a bathroom with a tub, shower and a sink. The suite is enormous but not bigger than my room.

I keep one of my bags on the bed and unpack. It is filled with 'the hated material'. There are about 20 Kurtis and 10 Sarees. What are they made up of? How will I wear them? I shiver. This is so not happening.

My phone vibrates in my pocket I pull it out and see a text from Maya.

*Enjoy the specious suite alone for today! I'm going out with Vivian. You may say for a date. I know it's boring without me but I won't be too late. -Maya*

Woah! She seriously likes this guy a lot.

*It's better without you :-P. Don't come, then I can relax...bye and bring your relationship to a new status. See you...(hope so not) ;-P - Me*

I giggle at the reply. After examining the room with better eyes I finally go inside the bathroom and take a shower. (With a shower cap) I don't like wetting my hair always. Strange right? But I'm wonderfully different. I am the queen of sarcasm.

While showering myself I relax my body. After almost 24 hours of journey I am tired and want to rest for a while. So I step off the shower and change into shorts and a black tank top. Due to the warm water of shower I am feeling drowsy and draw my body into the bed for a cozy nap.

**

"There's a stranger in my bed there's a pounding in my head. Glitter all over the room-"

What? Who's in my bed? I jump from the blanket and am gaping at the bed. Huh?! There is no one. Then who the hell is yelling like a gorilla in my bed. Curse that animal. Stealing my sleep is a crime, I want to kill them!

"-pictures of last night ended up online I'm screwed. Oh well!--"

I switch off my blasting alarm tune and get on my feet. The time on my iPhone displays 9:30 am. Damn I forgot to change the time.

It is 7 o'clock in the evening and I am alone in the suite. Maya is on her date and my parents have a separate suite.

"Alone. Time." I giggle. Thinking of home alone I switch on the T.V.

"Mujhe maaf kardo mera koi bura iraada nahi tha...[Please forgive me. My intensions were not bad...]"

"Bas! bas! Ek aur shbad bhi tumhare mu se nikala toh tum ghar se bahar hogi. [Enough! Enough! If one more word leaves your mouth you will be thrown out of this house.]"

What the hell is this? The characters in that show are talking in heavy Hindi accent. I barely understand a word so I surf for channels.

Star Plus, Life Ok, Sony, Colors. . . .

After searching for a couple of minutes I can't find my preferred channels. Not even one.

My stomach growls. I haven't eaten for hours. How can I forget that?

Food!

I search for the menu in the room. After seeking it for a good few minutes I find it in the dresser's drawer. What is this? Menu in a dresser's drawer? How can food relate to make up? I dismiss the lame thought and pull out the menu from the drawer.

My hands move to open the book. There are variety of servings printed. My hand is scouting on the menu like it is food. I am too hungry. Finally I stop on the page of Sizzlers.

I pick the phone and give the order and my room number. The person promises to bring it within 15 minutes. I'm a foody person and am always ready to taste new stuff. I have tasted almost all variety of dishes. French, English, Italian, Continental and some more.

How will Indian food taste? I have tasted it but the irony is Indian dishes at our house aren't made in the way they should be. They are purposely made less spicy and Indian food is known for being spicy.

There is a knock on the door of my suite.

Butler? No. He cannot come so early. Then?

Another knock follows.

Come on Ritz, don't be so lazy. I am tucked in my bed with the heavy sheets over me. Okay after gathering some willpower to get out of the bed, I pull the sheets off and go to the door.

"Oh honey! You were sleeping? I'm sorry if I disturbed you." Mom stands there.

"No mom! I am watching T.V and I ordered some snacks also. Wanna join?" I am alone here and am getting bored. Though I was room alone but I wasn't so happy about it like I was an hour ago.

"No, it's fine. Have your meal peacefully. If you want anything give me a ring otherwise come to my room, it's right next to yours." Mom points to the door next to my room.

"Yes your majesty!" Mom chuckles and comes inside the room."I want to talk to you. Spare me some time."

"What is it?"

"School..."

"What?"

"Hope you remember that you have to start your senior year here. It will start by next week. So I need you to be prepared for that."

"Yes mom." I drop my shoulders in despair. I miss my friends in L.A. but now this will be a fresh start.

"And also get ready after you finish up with your snacks. We are going out." She commands.

"Where?" I ask.

"To the Khurana's residency."

I smirk.
