THE RIGHT ONE

PART ONE - A LOVE GONE SOUR

Sometimes, we try to look for love in all the wrong places. We set our sights on somewhere far, thinking that love is there. What we didn’t realize is that sometimes, Mr. Right is just waiting for us, drinking coffee at a nearby café. But he remained unnoticed because we are always in a hurry chasing after someone we thought is “the right one."

“You bastard!” Chari Fortez did not know what came over her after Nathan dropped his bomb.

She balled her right fist and aimed it right at her fiance's ruggedly handsome face. Ex-fiance now. There is no way she will marry the guy after what he did.

Chari was excited earlier when Nathan invited her out on a date. It was the first time in two weeks that they were able to spend time together. Aside from being busy with their respective jobs, they were distracted with the preparations for their wedding. She was surprised when out of the blue, Nathan admitted he knocked some woman up!

Chari was rendered speechless. She did not know how to react. But before she could even find her tongue, Nathan assured her that she has nothing to worry about and that their wedding will proceed as planned.

She gritted her teeth in sudden annoyance. She did not want assurance for the wedding. What she wanted was an apology! But all he did was talk casually as if he did nothing wrong.

Chari did not know what came over her. While Nathan was talking endlessly about their upcoming wedding, she lost her cool and swang her right arm at him, neatly delivering a punch.

“Whoah!” Chari heard loud gasps from nearby tables. From out of the corner of her eyes, she could see other diners craned their necks in their direction. Some others dared to gather near their table – eyes wide as saucers while their jaws slackened.

“What happened?” She heard someone asked. Chari looked around in bewilderment.

Chari saw a woman pointing her phone’s camera at her. She turned her flaming face away and caught sight of Nathan sprawled on his seat, knocked out!

Then curious diners started to gather near their table.

“Someone, call a medic.” She heard another voice said.

As if on cue, a man in white came. His movements hurried as he checked on Nathan. While all of these happened Chari could feel the pounding of her heart while buzz sounds crowded her ears. She remained immobile as the enormity of what she did hit her.

The medic poked her.

“He passed out.

He informed her.

“You must have packed quite a punch, ma’am.” He added before he looked at her fist.

Chari looked closely at her fist and saw that it had started to show red. She did not know what to do. In her daze, she picked up her bag and started to walk away.

She could hear people calling out to her, but she ignored them, her hot heels burning in her haste.
