Extra Chapter ~ After Tale

The days just passed so swiftly. And before I even realized it, I had come across at that nostalgic garden at the hospital were I met that certain special person - visualizing the sequel to the dream I had about him yesterday. And from that very moment, realization went down into my mind that he's not going to be around anymore, unable to even properly say goodbye for the very last time. So when there are days that I am not feeling good, just the thought of his name really helps me to lighten up my mood. I listen to every pulse of my heart in my chest in which I could really feel his presence, holding into that aimless feeling; stopping at the scene where we possibly to meet from fading gently away.

"I want to see him." I sullenly said to myself.

So one day, I decided to sit under the large, fertile tree at the back of our yard. I leaned over the wooden chair and then watched the dry, yellowish leaves falling from its long, thick branches. Slowly, my awareness of the world dragged me into a dreamy but very familiar place; a place that became a part of my treasured memories.

"You finally came."

The voice was unexpected, making my eyes filled with surprise as I looked at the familiar boy standing under that huge lush tree.

"Theo ..."

My lips paint a soft smile as Theo nods once before reaching me in his arms. And before I knew it, I was hugging him tightly, my tears dripping from my cheeks on to his white shirt.

Gradually Theo raised both his hands to mine. I held it tightly and made sure I could not let go of his hand. After that, there was a long silence between me and Theo. Needless to say, I was very happy that I've got a chance to see him again, and I was really happy to see him really surprised too. But wait! I still have so many things to say, but I don't know where I should start first.

"Don't just stare at me like that?" Theo suddenly pulled me even closer and said, "Come with me! I have something that I wanted to show to you."

Theo dragged me into the fastest way to the place he wanted me to see. The running took for about a minute, until gradually the fireflies around us showed up.

"We're close!"

And soon, Theo and I arrived at the place. We stopped in front of the largest tree in the middle of the garden. That tree was quite old. Its leaves are very fertile, and it has so many huge branches in which fireflies loves too much.

"This is exactly the place I wanted to show to you, Caleb."

Theo held my hand tightly and together we approached the tree covered in colorful fireflies. Then suddenly, a hint of sadness came into Theo, washing him over like slow waves on a shallow beach.

"Sorry that I suddenly called you here.” He chuckled. “I just really wanted to show you this spot. Amazing, right?"

"Yeah."

I turned my gaze to him with my cheeks starting to blush. After a while, my tears suddenly showed up in the corner of my eyes and then...

I hugged him.

A hug so tight that Theo could not barely move. I can just feel his shoulder getting soaked again because of my tears. And while I was crying, we were surrounded by fireflies.

"I thought I could never see you again." I said to him, crying. "I always wished for this day to come, even if it's just a dream. That one day, I could finally say "thank you" to you personally, for giving me your heart...for...for..."

"...for giving you this much surprise?" He said, smirking.

"Yeah."

Yes, I was too happy that only a few words came out of my mouth, and then the remaining sounds were just series of sobs. And to be honest, I though it might actually gave him the opportunity to make fun of me just like he always do.

"Hey!" Theo tapped me once in my shoulder, and then he ran away from me and went hiding behind the big old tree. "Chase me, if you can!"

"Oh, come on!"

I wiped away my tears and run to chase him. We chased each other, back and forth to wherever our feet would take us. The two of us laughed all over the place as if we owned everything, as if there was no end to what we were doing. Then finally, we felt tired and stopped. We can't even recall how we fell after that, just the sound of our bodies hitting the dry dirt and moist green grass. We lay there unable to breathe, and all the wind knocked out both of our lungs.

We spend the remaining hours enjoying ourselves watching the beauty of the fireflies flying around us. We didn't even manage to tell each other that we were so happy. Then a little while later, I noticed that Theo had closed his eyes and seemed to be praying.

"I’m sorry for leaving you so soon.” Theo clenched my hands as he spoke, “I really wished we could stay like this forever, but we can't."

My lips curved to make a bitter smile and felt my heart squeezed so hard just by thinking that Theo went to see me in this dream just to say a proper "good bye".

"Don't say that." I said to him while meeting his eyes. "You're already living...right here in my chest. That's why even if you're not around anymore; we can always be like this...forever."

"Really?"

"Yeah."

That's right.

I really wished we could return to this place again, and then we will hurtle back from wherever we came before the moon shed its light on us, and then both of us will awake tomorrow so we could begin all over again. That was a youth of mine I shall never forget, as well as my friendship with this boy I had shared it with.
