Chapter 8: Win-win situation

They laughed as they continued breakfast. Pheby is still looking at Vickie who is also looking at the direction to where Kayel is at right now.

"Dear, what's your plan?"

"I will go to the camp next week, ma'am. Good thing we're also tasked to guard some parts of this town for the safety of everyone."

Hylda couldn't help but to tear a bit.

"Oh, Vic, Feb, could you still remember how your dad did the same for this city?"

"Yes mom. That's why, if there's a soldier that would visit our house, I am always reminded by dad." Vickie answered right away.

"Kayel said daddy will go home soon! I can't wait, right, sir Kayel?" Pheby's cheerfulness made him chuckle despite what he's feeling right now. He instantly felt guilty again. However, how could he ever tell them the truth when they were all enthusiastic to expect him to be alive? He could sense from their faces the happiness and excitement every time they will talk about Mack.

They already planned to go to many parks, beaches and movies with him. How could he ever spoil the moment if they were this fun in anticipating his return?

Kayel couldn't help but to swallow as soon as she heard those words coming from Vickie, too. Kayel couldn't help but to pity her the most.

Now, she understood why he only gave him the picture of Vickie to him instead of his whole family members. Seeing Vickie's situation, she was the one who was supposed to be needing help the most because of her fragile limbs.

She couldn't easily move her feet because of so many complications. However, it did not stop her from being productive. Kayel could notice that she doesn't want to rely on Pheby all the time. She also knew how to take good care of herself in her own little way possible.

Pheby and Hylda went to the supermarket. Hylda noticed that Pheby needed to relax. That's why she pulled her to go with her in the supermarket. She also reminded Kayel to be good at Vikie.

They left Vickie and Kayel outside the house. This is Vikie's favorite place. It was exactly 2:00 in the afternoon. The weather is not too hot nor too cold.

"Don't look at me like that," He could hear Vickie's voice as she sat beside him.

"I'm so sorry if you're offended but, have you ever been in a therapy session before?"

"I had thrice. It was so painful that I told my mom to stop it. To stop doing it to my own body."

"But that is how you will endure to live longer. You are recovering, right?"

"No, it's too painful. Everything that I went through was just more pain. Undergoing those painful sessions will just let me wish I will just die to forget how painful it is."

"I am so sorry…" Kayel said in a low voice as he slowly guided her. He held both handles of her wheelchair from her back. She started to point to where she wanted to go. Since the front house of Vickie is an unfinished lawn, please forgive some of your plans.

"It's alright. I know you could understand me, Kayel. Thanks a lot."

"I will always try my best. But, what are you feeling now?"

"I'm doing great now that I breathe fresh air outside the house. I could feel like staying there almost forever, you know."

"You could go outside to smell and enjoy the breeze for you to inhale better and improve your lungs."

"Thank you, Kayel. You've been very thoughtful to me."

"It's a pleasure. You're also kind to me so I guess it is a win-win situation, right? You help me and I help you, too."

"Friends supposed to help one another, you know."

"Yeah, you're right."

'I hope we could be more than friends. I guess it would be so great. It's like a dream come true for me.' Vickie couldn't help but to utter it very low in front of him.

She could see herself smiling for no reason this time.

"Wow, the garden is also well taken care of." Kayel commented as if very amazed to the things he's seeing right now. There were even many different colors and sizes of flowers in front of them.

"Wow, it is really obvious that you love to take good care of plants, too."

"Thank you." Vickie couldn't help but look down and smile. She's not getting used of all these compliments. Coming from Kayel, it made her really happy for the first time, it made her heart beat fast.
