Chapter Two

Amber's eyes flicked up and all at once she was gripped by the most unusual sensation, a mixture of dry-mouthed speechlessness and heated embarrassment, For a few seconds, she literally couldn't speak as she stared, wide-eyed, at the most staggeringly good looking guy she met only once before and in the most unfortunate circumstances.

Black hair, sleek back style, sharp jawline, Ash mauve eyes with long thick eyelashes which were staring at back at her. Mortified Amber stepped back looking from his boots back to his eyes as she stood waiting for her Boss's nephew ' Mr. Alex Linden' to step out of the airport and be collected by her.

It had been three days, since the party. The next day she was instructed to pick someone up from the airport acting as a driver for her Boss's nephew. Amber felt herself sinking a deep hole as she watched him stare at her in no expression.

'Are you my driver?' He asked.

Clamping her lips shut she grabbed his very bag rolling it to the car and pushed the handle down. When she was ready to pick it up and set it in the back of that car it was swiftly grabbed by him and lifted up. Gently rest in the back and he closed the door. He got in the back with no further words. Amber felt like she was being tested by the gods. Why was she associated with the man she hated with just one conversation.

From the way he dressed, he did not seem like a normal businessman. His aura concluded he was probably one of those rich town men who had second homes in every city with a good view. He'd probably descended for a party or family event. Amber couldn't count the time she was asked to pick her Boss's international clients from the airport and drive them to their luxurious hotels for the weekend and pick them up again for a meeting with her company.

Silent, she drove him to the hotel and speed up back to her workup. She could not question her boss. She could not ask her why she was made as a personal driver to clients.  But she stared at her laptop screen with the words 'Resignation'.

They were no way she could find another job like this. And the pay. The pay was worth it. Always. The reason she could live in a good apartment was that her boss made Amber her servant. Erasing the words she switch her screen off and grabbed her flies going back to work.

'Amber!

She glanced at the closed door of her Boss's office and grabbed her finished files running to them.

"Yes?" She asked clicking her pen, ready to write down any important orders.

'Is my nephew comfortable with the hotel? Call him and see if he would like to stay at my penthouse for the week and pick him up for tonight's event at the Plaza. I expect you to be there at five"

Amber gulp, scratching off her other orders for the evening and scribbling down the 5 pm but stopped.

'At five? The event starts at 8-'

'So?' Amber was cut off by that booming voice.

"I will have to arrange the guest list and look over your client's accommodations, Mr. Evans will be arriving by eight-thirty and I have to be there to welcome him, Shall I have another driver pick your nephew up by eight?

'Absolutely not. You are my secretary and you will pick him up, get here before eight-thirty and see to Mr. Evans'

'I thought you already had another Secretary-'

'She quit this morning, therefore you will be coming inside the event and looking after my clients, you also have to book my hotel for next weekend at the spa resort, Oh and gather the monthly finance report and have it mailed to me by 20th'

Amber was frozen. She never expected her first Secretary to quit like that. Because of her Amber could have some time to herself and now she was doomed.

"But-I"

Amber was brutally cut off by her boss as she lifted up her hand to stop her from speaking and grabbed her cell phone.

'I expect you to dress accordingly'

Said her boss as she walked out the office doors.

'But I was told I could go home by Nine' She whispered looking at her empty weekend and closing her eyes in disappointment. She grabbed her work for the night and walked out.

The dial rang a few times before the sweet voice said hello from Amber's phone.

'Chelsy, I need you' Amber begged as she ran to the car getting and pulling out the basement of the office.

'You do?

'I need a formal dress-'

"You were supposed to have a free Friday night-'

"Well, I don't! So please, Formal. Black and something which will make me disappear in the walls'

Chelsy laughed, ' All Right but you owe me a dinner

"Yes, I know. I need it by seven"

And with that, the need to buy a new dress was gone. Chelsey was the owner of a vintage dress shop. She rented most of her dresses out for a day. Being an assistant Amber always needed formal gowns for one night and she was the best at that.

Amber stared at herself in the mirror and blinked applying a peach lipstick and grabbing her bag.

'That fits perfect' Chesley said as her assistant nodded in agreement.

"I am surprised"

'Oh your body is perfect for dresses like these, you hardly need any alterations' Mike spoke as Amber smiled at him.

"I will send it back by tomorrow. Thank you so much"

With that Amber got in the car and drove an hour to the venue, She cursed looking at the time. It was five-thirty. And picking up her boss's Nephew would probably take half an hour, One hour if there is traffic. Which was unavoidable.

She wished she could quit as she pressed the contact number for him and press her phone against her ear.

'Yes?

Said the voice.

"Good evening, This is Amber I will be picking you up for the evening, Your Aunt needs you here by Eight.

She heard some shuffling in the background before his voice spoke again.

'So it's you again' She rolled her eyes.

"I will be waiting at the lobby by Eight Sir"

Amber was about to hang up, but she had a hope he would refuse her drive and catch another driver.

'Did my Aunt set you up to this?'

"I am told to you to the Plaza by Eight. Is there a problem? If you wish to have another driver I would be happy to arrange a new one"

That dreaded answer followed after Amber's statement.

'Oh no, Amber. I would be happy you drove me there'

And with that, he hung up.

She gulped watching the elevator doors open but no show. She sighs looking at the ticking clock and closing her eyes in utter disappointment. At this rate, she wouldn't able to receive Mr. Evan at the event and she had no other backup. It was already Eight ten. And the traffic was bad.

She did not notice the man walking towards her in the black suit as she texted to her co-worker to see if there was anyone to receive their VIP client.

'Amber?

Her body felt like it shiver at that voice. That voice was from another planet, and when she looked up, her eyes immediately diverted to the walls behind him. She couldn't look him in the eyes.

'This way please' She said turning around and almost running to her car and opening her door for him. He smirked getting and she huffs pulling the car out the driveway. Amber was on edge. The dress was tight, the heels were too long. She loved dressing up but for a stressful situation like tonight? She wished if they let women in sweatpants in.

'You mind seems to be distracted. You missed a turn'

Amber felt her heart drop as she looked at the GPS and cursed out loud immediately regretting it.

"F-Forgive me, sir. I was-distracted"

She said before taking a U-turn.

'I don't think I am comfortable with a distracted driver

Oh please, She offered him a chance and he rejected. To that, she rolled her eyes finally taking the right turn and speeding to the venue. Only ten minutes were left before MR. Evans could arrive, and that man was always on time.

"I did offer to give you another driver Sir. If I may say so"

'I thought my Aunt trained her Secretary well'

She wanted to slam his head in a wall. But Amber clenched her hands on the wheel and bit her lip.

"Her secretary quit this morning. I was only an on-call Assistant for her till this morning"

Amber wondered why she was indulging herself in such stupid conversation. But she needed to justify her lack of professionalism to him. The last thing she wanted was a complaint from her Boss's nephew.

 'Ahh- I see. Pull over'

Her heart dropped as she glanced at him through the mirror and gulped slowing down the road and pulling up right near the busy road.

'Now get out'

She could not believe it. He was throwing her out. There was no way she could get a cab on a road like this.

"I apologize for this sir. But I won't be able to make it to the event if you ask me to leave the car like this "

She let her ego lock up in a cage and explained before he could throw her out.

'I said get out and sit in the passenger seat. I'll drive. At this rate, we won't be able to make it because your driving sucks'

That made her angry. But she could only watch as he stepped out and opened the driver's seat gesturing her to get out. She gave up, walking towards the passenger seat and letting him drive. And boy did he drive. She could feel her soul leave her body as he speeds down the road. Amber never wanted to be left at the side of the road this bad. Because this was a death drive.

She stared at the doors of the venue. It was eight forty and her heart was beating fast. She looked at Alex as he tossed the keys to the valet. She jumped as her door was opened, a hand reaching out to help her out. She was glad it wasn't him but the manager.

'I was hoping to see you, Madam. Mr. Evans just walked in and Miss Linden is asking for you'

She smiled at him before escorting Mr. Alex inside and excusing herself,  glancing out to the road and to her shock. It was starting to snow. Her eyes twinkled at the beautiful scene until she realized it would block all the roads if it continued for hours.

The evening slowed down for her after nine-thirty. Amber was no longer needed and ready to leave but My boss just hated me. She didn't let me move from her side and the snow was piling up. If she stayed longer than ten to clean up all the mess. It was sure she would be stuck on the road.

In the end, she was asked to introduce one of their clients to her nephew, Alex. She stood there smiling and agreeing as they talk while my feet were now numb and cold. She never sat down, never had a bite of the delicious food right in front of her and her head was starting to hurt.

'It must be difficult managing so many events in this month for you'

I smiled denying it.

"Absolutely not. Miss Linden doesn't trust us for no reason, although it is pretty hectic, our team pulls through"

Amber knew better than to fall for such a tactic and lose her guard on speaking any ill about their boss. She had her ears open for such comments.
