PRESENT DAY
GINERVA'S POV
I stood waiting for a cab to take me home and frowned when I saw him.
Abel Masterson was smiling brightly in a huge billboard, advertising a new banking app. Even though it was only a digital projection, the sight of him made my blood boil.
"Isn't Abel just smoking hot?
" A girl beside me cooed. I forced myself to smile and not give her my honest opinion about the man.
After that night two years ago when he had labeled me as some cheap prostitute, I have harbored a wealth of hatred for him.
My father had called me the following morning to nag at me about pissing Abel off which had only made me hate him more.
Abel had made my father think of me as a shameless whore who had made unwanted advances at him.
Dad had eventually forbidden me from attending any function relating to Abel Masterson. Finally, I sighted a cab, but just as I was about to hail the cab, my phone rang in my purse.
I paused to take it out, it was Dad calling.
Recently, our relationship had become even more strained as Dad had started seeing a colleague of his at the bank.
"Hello, Dad?
" I answered.
"Listen to me, Ginny.
Where are you?" He asked quickly.
"What is the matter, Dad?
Why do you sound so worried?"
"Answer the question, Ginny.
We barely have enough time."
"I'm just returning from a job interview.
I was just about to get a cab back to my apartment. What exactly is the matter?"
"Don't go to your apartment for now.
I need you to get to the house, pack up a suitcase for me. I have to go on an urgent business trip, when you are done, go to my private closet and pack up my wristwatches. Take out some cash from the safe as well, all of it."
"Is everything okay Dad?
Why do you need all of that for a business trip?"
"Don't ask stupid questions and just do as I asked.
You can get some of your things from your apartment as well, you will be going with me. When you are done, there should be a car waiting for you outside," Dad said in a rush.
"Okay, Dad.
I am on my way," I said, hanging up to hail a cab.
I arrived at the house about thirty minutes later.
Paying the cab driver, I rushed up to the entrance. Dad lived with his new love interest, Susan Morgan, but I knew the passcode because this wasn't the first time he needed me to get something for him.
Getting into the house, I made my way to the master bedroom, upstairs.
Opening up the closet, I packed Dad's business suits and a few other casual wears for him. I frowned when I noticed that Susan's things were nowhere to be found in the room.
I moved to Dad's private closet and packed the wristwatches.
They were about fifteen of them, they all seemed like they cost an arm and a leg. I wondered how Dad was able to afford all of that luxury. Abel Masterson surely paid him well, I figured.
Dad only ever wired some little allowance to me every month, because I believed I had to be independent at my age.
I dialed Dad's line to ask for the pin to the safe.
After getting it, I typed it in and the safe came open.
I shouted in surprise at the bundles of dollar bills I saw in there.
My hands shook as I packed them all into a suitcase that was inside the safe.
I wondered why Dad had so much money. The money was definitely up to at least two hundred thousand dollars.
That much cash being at someone's house in a safe was very suspicious.
When I finished packing up everything, I called Dad again.
"Dad, I'm done packing here," I told him.

"That's good.
There is a car waiting for you outside. It will take you to your apartment so that you can pack up your stuff too. Make sure to take your passport and other relevant important documents to you," he instructed.
"But why?
" I queried, confused.
"Don't ask stupid questions, Ginny.
Just do as I say," he snapped, hanging up.
I placed my phone in my purse and lifted the heavy suitcase filled with the clothes and wristwatches.
I dragged it all the way to the front door. Just as I went back for the briefcase containing the money, the doorbell rang.
I smiled, figuring it was definitely the driver Dad had sent.
I didn't bother to check the camera as I opened the door.
My mouth hung open in shock as I stared into the dark and furious orbs of Abel Masterson.
Why was he even at Dad's house? I wondered.
He was immaculately dressed in a navy blue three piece suit.
His black hair was styled differently from two years ago. He looked dangerously handsome, his entire face looked like he was furious. His nose flared as his hard dark eyes scanned my entire appearance.
I looked behind him, sighting two other men with him.
Their expressions were hard as well as though there was a problem. Abel looked at the briefcase in my hand and smirked.
After several seconds of staring at them, I finally was able to speak up with, "what is it?
What do you want?"
"My dear Ginerva.
Pure and innocent Ginerva, what exactly is it that you have there with you?" He asked in a deep voice.
"Nothing that should concern you.
My father is not at home, if he is the one you are looking for," I told him.
Abel let out a bout of laughter as though what I had just said was the funniest thing he had ever heard before.

"Of course your father isn't in.
Why do you think we are here? Please, allow my men to do their investigation in peace. I don't want to believe that someone with such high moral standards like you would be involved in something as terrible as what has just happened," Abel said, coldly.
"What?
" I gasped, totally confused. "What exactly are you talking about?"
"Why don't you allow us in so we can tell you all about your father's embezzlement of company's funds?
" He snapped.
"Pardon?
" I gasped, as the briefcase fell from my hand, opening up as it hit the ground to reveal the bundles of money.
"My goodness, I doubt the
re is anything more to investigate after seeing this evidence," he said harshly.
