Chapter 1: The Corpses In The Forest

Karina's sweats were dripping to the pile of rocks she was stepping on. The blades in her hands, sharp as the lightning bolt, were covered with Nuskar blood. Her eyes, glowed in red hue, witnessing twenty-three Nuskars crawling for their lives under the dim light of the moon.

The hissing sound of the forest fused with the cries of the dying Nuskars was a sweet melody to her pointy ears.

She wore a black robe, concealing her bright white hair and pale-white skin which made it difficult for the monsters to see her . Camouflaged in the shadows of the trees, she was invisible and her giggles that echoed in the surroundings was the only sign of her presence.

She hid herself behind the silhouettes of the trees right before the other Nuskars came. Her sense of hearing was sharp, her sight was clear and her speed was as fast as a Kirin (a cheetah with luminous colors).

The Nuskars spread out but failed to capture her.

Before they could go further, Karina, like a thief of the bloody night, swiftly bolted at the top of the tree and played the song of Arna'al using a flute given by her foster father, and triggered hysteria and panic to the monsters.

The monsters were paralyzed and killed with a shower of arrows from Karina's bow.

Her arrows were poisoned with concoctions of the rare fruit that can be found in the mountains of Mundina, guarded with Vanarik (a bear with long sharp claws and scorpion tail).

More than sixty Nuskars were killed during that night by one demure creature without much efforts.

She stared at the corpses of the Nuskars, grinning evilly, and remembered how they mercilessly killed her families.

"My revenge is endles. I will hunt all of you and you will be dead before you can see my face" she said to the dead bodies emplaced in the cold soil of the quiet forest.

With the anger and hate she felt inside her, that seemed controlling her soul, she went astray, leaving the bodies turning cold with the breeze of northern winds.

She can hear the squawks of the Agris, congruously feasting on the corpses of the monstrous murderers.

While on her way to Falanor, the town of Gringgos, she stopped in the lake to rest for a while and cleaned her blades with the crystal clear water that shows the reflection of the dim moon, and remembering her past.

She used to live with her foster parents in an isolated place in Falanor, serving as slaves of the royal Nuskars at the city of Nivrata.

The Gringgos, known as furious hunters of the forests, found Karina sleeping on the soil beside the dead bodies with maggots, trembling with hunger thirteen years ago. They brought her to their place, fed her with anything they had and treated her like their own.

Like real parents, the Gringgo couple protected and nourished Karina.

Anrna'al, the husband, was a musician and a skilled hunter. He trained Karina how to play the flute and taught her everything she needed to know to be a hunter in the forests.

Practicing blades, running with the Kirins and catching Lonids (fast-running boars with invisible defense mechanism), Karina grew up with these training routines.

Harn'ain, the wife, was a good cook and loveable mother. She taught her how to act like a real woman. Training her with modesty and demureness, Karina was able to be a graceful hunter, gracefully using the blades and arrows with the art of demure movements.

It was a rainy evening when Nuskars came to their hootch, slammed the door and pushed Arna'al to the wall.

"Where is the Orb of Terror?"

The Nuskars were looking for the Orb of Terror that Arna'al found in the darkest part of the forest many years ago. The orb was powerful and can trigger hysteria to anyone's mind.

"The Orb doesn't belong to the hands of the evil."

Arna'al was determined to hide the Orb from them.

Weak and old, he was stabbed by the Nuskars with a sword.

Karina was in deep anger seeing such hostility. She was about to draw her blades but her mother held her arms, stopping her to do so.

Arna'al fell down to the floor, dying.

"Why are you stopping me Mirana (mother)?"

Harn'ain stared at her as if telling her that she can't defeat the monsters.

One of the monsters grabbed Harn'ain which made her kneel down to the floor.

"If you will not give us the Orb, I'll cut your head!" shouted the monster.

Harn'ain remained silent that made the monster burst into anger, and decapitated her and left as if nothing happened.

Karina's red eyes grew big seeing the head of her mother rolling down to the floor. The horrifying memories of her family's death flashed back before her eyes, putting her in an uncontrollable outrage.

She drawn her sharp blades, floating in the air like time stopped and beheaded ten monsters in a blink of an eye.

Swiftly moving from a distance, she went forward to attack others but all of them have weapons which made her step back a bit.

The monsters were running towards her with raging eyes and deafening roars, holding sharp swords and spears.

Her arrows were not enough to shoot all of them. Using her blades, she fought like a bladed mantis, feeding her urge to kill. Anger and hate fueled her heart, not sparing even one Nuskar during that night.

The rain stopped, giving a clearer view of the dead bodies making the soil wet with blood.

The night sky became clear and the moon showed up, giving light to the horrified faces of the soaked corpses.

Karina went back to the hootch, crying in front of her dead mother and dying father.

"Karina, take this flute. The Orb is inside it, it's sound will bring terror to everyone's mind. Take care of it."

Arna'al was chasing his breath, spitting blood with vision getting blurred. Karina embraced her father until he showed no hint of life anymore.

Shaking with anger, she cried continuously while embracing her parents.

She stood up and went outside. She made a fire and burned the hootch, stiffed in sadness and melancholy.

"Five lives they took, I will take as many as I can. Revenge is my only constituent now, I will hunt all of them."

After burning the hootch she headed to the forest, and made it her realm, living in the shadows and hunting Nuskars diving in to the deep forest.

Training herself with the dangers of the forest, she became stronger. Her every night routine is to visit Falanor where her second parents died.
