Chapter 2: Paint Splashes and New Guys

- Aria's POV -"Did you guys see the new guy? I heard he's hot." Lizzy squeals.I roll my eyes. "Who cares?""I bet Maya's already latched herself onto him," Zoe adds, faking a gag.Maya Gray was Maple Grove's Queen Bee. She had gorgeous, shiny, jet black hair that hit her just above her waist and dark brown eyes, with a tanned complexion. She always has her minions trailing behind her, ready to pounce on anyone and attack. In other words, she is a bitch.I open my locker and take out everything I need before slamming it shut.Lizzy ditched us to go make out with her latest fling, so Zoe and I are forced to walk to class passing Maya and her little group of other piranhas."Let's just make things clear, shall we? He's off limits. Don't even think of going anywhere near him." Maya sneers at her 'friends.' They all nod rapidly, frightened.Gosh, they are so pathetic.Zoe can't help but giggle at their actions. We sit beside each other in English, so we quickly take our seats. The bell rings, signalling the start of class. When everyone has been seated, Ms. Hart begins her lecture. She's one of the most boring teachers in the school, so after a good ten minutes, I feel sleepy.Well, that's until a tree walks into the room. This guy is at least 6'3, with blond wavy hair and a sharp jawline, along with striking blue eyes. He has the longest lashes I've ever seen. Any girl would kill to have those. Overall, I'd say he is pretty good looking. He gives off a bad boy vibe, with a black leather jacket, black track pants and a white tee. A few of the girls around me gasp dramatically, and I roll my eyes at their behavior. For some reason, I already hate this guy. I have a strong feeling he's a complete jerk."Ah, you must be Miles, the new student. Everyone, please make sure you welcome him kindly." Ms. Hart says. How about no."Miles, you can take a seat behind Aria." Ms. Hart points to me and the desk behind me.Almost immediately, half of the girls in the class turn my way and shoot daggers at me.Real mature, guys.Morgan, I think his name is, walks to the back of the class and sits behind me, not sparing me a glance. We're going to be best buds, I can tell.I continue to jot down my notes, ignoring the smirks Zoe keeps sending me. At the end of class, I jump and grab my stuff, ready to bolt and head to PE but life had other plans for me.The new kid ends up bumping into me with such force that I tumble backwards instead of forwards, landing on my butt and dropping everything.Morgan scoffs and jumps over me, walking out of the room like he didn't just practically push me to the ground."Jerk," I mutter, sitting upright. Zoe leans down to help pick up my books and hands them back to me."Who pissed in his milk this morning?" She glares at the door, where Morgan was only two seconds ago."I don't know, and I don't care. All I know is that I do not like that Morgan kid." I state, scrambling to my feet and walking out of the class.Suddenly, Zoe bursts out laughing."What?" I give her a confused look."Dude, his name's Miles, not Morgan." She corrects. It isn't even that funny. "Same thing."After two more periods, lunch finally arrives. I sit at our regular table with Liz and Zoe, devouring my huge slice of pizza.Sadly, Maya comes out of nowhere, glances at me, and snickers."Got a problem?" I say bluntly."Do you always eat like a pig? You're getting fatter every day." She smirks. Is that all she came here for? To insult me?"That's awesome! We're twinning now, dude!" I exclaim, shoving my pizza in my mouth, right in front of her face. She gapes. "You b—"Pathetic."A female dog? That thing that makes puppies? Aw, thanks for the compliment!" I press a fake smile, cutting her off before she gets to complete her poor insult. She scoffs and turns on her heel, walking back to the 'Popular Table'. When I notice Morg—Miles, sitting amongst them, I sigh and turn back to my friends. How surprising."She literally came over here for nothing." Zoe laughs, drinking her apple juice.I nod and finish the rest of my pizza before checking my phone for a picture of my schedule. I have a free period next, which means I'll be spending it in the art room.I glance at Lizzy, who's lost in her thoughts so I snap in her face, making her jump."Liz, something wrong?" I ask.She sighs and pinches her nose."I think I actually like Ryan." She blurts.Typical Liz. Always so random.Zoe and I gape and stare at her."I'm sorry, can you repeat that?" Zoe says, shaking her head.I have to agree with her, Lizzy having a crush on someone was astonishing. Liz was never the type to genuinely have feelings for someone. She was always bouncing from one guy to another, trying to find "the one". She hasn't liked someone since junior high, following Matt Smith around the school like a lost puppy."He's a sweet guy, and he's... I don't know, different I guess." I smirk at her when she turns red and looks down at her lap.Ryan is someone we don't usually hang out with. He's pretty popular and sporty, so I wouldn't be too shocked if he turns out to be Miles' new best friend.Zoe and I turn to each other and grin."Operation Rizzy is in phase one." We say at the same time and laugh. Liz only rolls her eyes and blushes again.●●●I add the last few details to my painting. The background is painted a dark and light grey, and a girl wearing a red prom dress is walking in the rain with a matching red umbrella. I stroke the dress with red paint a couple of more times before taking a look at my masterpiece."That's a nice contrast." A voice says from behind me.I turn to see Leo, a quiet guy in my math class. He's cute, with black hair and brown eyes and a sweet smile. But I think of him as no more than a friend."Thanks. I've finally finished, after two days."He smiles at me, blushing slightly. Uh oh, I think we all know what he's about to say next."So, uh, I was w-wondering if you would want to go for a movie with me on F-Friday?" He stutters, fidgetting with his fingers. He's so nervous that I almost say yes. But I don't want to lead the poor guy on."I'm really sorry, Leo. But I don't like you, like that . . ." I give him a sad smile. His eyes snap to mine and he nods."Don't worry about it, I kinda already knew you would say that anyway." He laughs it off and shrugs."Well, uh, I'm going to leave, because this is awkward, and now I just made it worse by saying that. Oh, screw me. Wait, no that sounds wron-"I cut him off by laughing and shooing him away, waving to him while he speeds down the hallway. The bell rings, so I put my painting on the drying rack and grab all my paints and brushes. I run out of the room, but as soon as I do, I crash into someone and all my paints splatter everywhere. The person I bumped into freezes. Different colours of paint were on his face, shirt, and hair."Oh my god, I'm so sorry!" I apologize, but when I identify the person, I instantly take it back and laugh in Miles' face."Nevermind, I'm definitely not sorry," I say, grabbing the now half empty paint bottles.Miraculously, there's barely anything but specks of paint on the floor. It goes completely unnoticed. Everyone creates a circle around Miles and I. Damn, he was pissed.I shrug and smirk at him. "Well, Karma's a bitch."With that, I scurry off but before I heard him yell, "You're dead!"Well, today was certainly entertaining.
