Chapter 8

"Amir? what are you doing here, I thought you left for work" she didn't expect to see him here, as she received a message from him not less than one hour ago. He walked majestically through the place with hands stuffed in the pocket. "You know I'm the boss now, I can leave whenever I want to. Aren't you happy to see me" Zara stared at him mouth agape as he scanned the whole place with a sense of someone who's in charge.

"Of course, I'm happy because you'll be my waiter for the day"

"What?" he turned around wide-eyed "Can't you see I'm a busy man" he let out, adjusting his tie.

"Oh is that so?" an amused smile dangled at the corner of her lips as she folded her hands across the chest.

"I think I'll get going, my Secretary will call me anytime now" she watched as he sauntered to the door. She has to stop him, he's the only one that can help her now before she gets new employees. An idea suddenly popped up

"Okay, I'll give you free food for the whole week" Seriously Zara, she mentally scolds herself. She plans on saying two days but her mouth blurted it out before she could control it.

"Am I hearing things?" he said with his back facing her.

"No you're feeling things, if you're ready then and if you're not then bye" she turned and was about to leave when he stopped her.

"Wait Zara" she ignored him.

"I'll help you then" he muttered which didn't go unheard by her. A smile gets it's way to her lips as she watches his expression like someone who doesn't have a choice.

"Alright then, Let's start" Amir stared at her without moving.

"What again? Or do you want me to piggyback you" she ushered brushing away the strand of hair that threatens to reveal itself from her hijab. Amir stared at her in you're not serious.

"You and I both know it's haram, you're not my Muharram"

"I know I'm just joking and besides I can't carry you. You look so fat and tall"

"That's why you shouldn't underestimate the power of what I'm capable of" Amir announced proudly. Zara rolled her eyes at his words.

"Whatever, Now let's-" her eyes went behind him seeing Sumayya entering through the door.

"Sumayya" she called. Amir's head snapped to the lady. She flashed him a smile and he finds himself smiling back.

"I'm glad you came, I was about to call you" Sumayya lips forms an 'O'

"Remember you told me today is the opening of the bakery so here I am" she set her bag on the table with flower vase positioned at the center.

"Wow what a good memory you have. Thanks for coming"

"It's okay. Now, what should we start with?" Sumayya said excitedly. Zara felt happy that she got someone to help her, unlike the someone whom she had to bribe before he agrees to help her. Though she tried calling Manal but her father is a strict man, he doesn't let her go out freely until it's necessary.

Zara slouched herself on the seat facing Sumayya. She took out a notebook and pen, clapping her hands together.

"First of all, we should start with the menu. What are the things we'll put in the menu" Sumayya commenced placing her joined palms on the table.

"There should be Cookies, cheesecake, brownies, croissants..." Amir watched them as they go on and on, he doesn't even know some of the names. Their boring discussion is making him sleepy. And for the fact that he doesn't have a bit of idea about the whole thing is even worst. But since it has to do with Zara, his best friend, then he'll help her in any possible way he could. A yawn escapes his lips. He didn't get enough sleep because of the meeting. He was delighted, the shareholders are satisfied with him and he promised to work hard and bring the hotel to more success and make his father proud.

"Why are you still standing, are you a statue," Zara said snapping him out of his thoughts. He sent her a dirty look as his phone vibrate inside his pocket.

"Excuse me," he said walking away towards the private room.

"Sumayya I'm so impressed. I didn't know you have so much idea about the whole bakery thing. Work with me" She held her hands. Sumayya was taken aback by her outburst. At first, when her dad bought the place, she wished he opened up a bakery instead of a restaurant as she has a fondness for it. She used to bake together with her mom when she was still alive. Thinking about her mom brings back many memories but she's no more the weak Sumayya she's stronger than before. Her father had to sell the building due to some financial issues. She stared at the lady in front of her. She met Zara just once but the woman is nice to her

"Please," Zara said again showing a puppy face.

"Okay" she'll chase her dreams, if her father hears about it she knows he'll be happy. Before she could react she felt an arm circled around her body.

"Thank you so much Sumayya, we will just hire a few employees and we're good to go"

"Insha Allah. You know I also have a thing for baking" she said with a smile. Pulling apart Zara stared at her in surprise.

"Really?" and she nodded in answer.

"Masha Allah. I think we're destined to meet, together with me and you, we can bring Zara's bakery to success"

"Insha Allah. Now, do we have the ingredients ready?" Sumayya asked making her way to the kitchen.

"Yes, just a few things to add. wait, why is Amir not yet back"

"Maybe he's still on the phone" Sumayya remembered their call last night. To be honest, the reason she couldn't talk much is because she's nervous about how he'll react, she thought he's an arrogant man but it turns out the opposite. She has a feeling they'll get along. She finds herself smiling.

"Let me go check up on him" Zara declared making her way to the private room.

"Amir" she pushed the door open what she saw made her stop on her tracks. Amir's back rested on the couch sleeping. Getting inside she stared at him. He sleeps so peacefully like the Kid Amir. The left side of her lips curved up remembering their childhood days. Walking out of the room, she took her bag from the table.

"Are you going somewhere?" Sumayya inquired getting out of the kitchen.

"No, follow me" she whispered. Sumayya brows furrowed in confusion.

"Where?"

"Keep your voice down just follow me" Sumayya followed her reluctantly. As they entered the room her curiosity increase more.

"Amir sleeping?"

"Yes, I want you to help me" she pulled out her makeup pouch.

"Won't he get mad?" Sumayya said her eyes going to the sleeping Amir.

"Don't worry, he's a heavy sleeper" she walked slowly towards him with her eyeliner and execute her plans without him stirring a bit.

One hour later,

The families came in, all didn't stop in supporting her. Even with their busy schedule, they still find time to come.

"Zara, how did you make this milk cake," Aunt Myrah said closing her eyes while she moans by the taste.

"Actually, my friend made it" Zara confessed.

"Manal?" Yasmin asked.

"No" just then Sumayya appear from the kitchen

"She made it. Her name is Sumayya she's the daughter of the man I bought the building from"

"Assalamu Alaikum" she greeted casting her head down.

"Masha Allah, you have blessed hands. I know both of you will do a good job" Myrah said taking another bite of the milk cake.

"Insha Allah thank you all for your support," Zara said from the button of her heart.

"But are you going to sell only Halals?" Fawwaz's father asked.

"No both Muslims and Non-muslims can eat here"

"Masha Allah, I'm really proud of you" he answered back. "By the way where is Amir, I thought he's here with you" Before any of them could answer, the guy in talk beat them to it as he walked out of the room. All eyes turned to him.

"Ya Allah Amir what is this?" his mom burst out laughing. Zara held in her laugh as anytime soon she'll explode.

"What Mom?" The room filled up with laughter. Amir watched them in all his confused form. Fawwaz walked up to him still laughing.

"Really Amir, when did you turn to a girl?" he said amidst laughter.

"Cut to the chase what do you mean?" he's starting to be angry by the stares he's getting.

"Have a look at yourself in the mirror" Glaring at him, he moved to the wall where a small mirror-like decoration is placed. The next thing Zara hears is her name. Amir took predator steps towards her, his jaw clenching.

"I know you did this, right Sumayya?" he turned to her whose eyes were looking elsewhere.

"You did the exact thing back when we're kids" he spitted.

"Oh did I? I don't have any recollection of it?"

"Really? then wait and see I'll get my revenge" snatching her bag, he took out the eyeliner. Seeing that he's really serious Zara ran way with him following behind her not even bothering about their family presence. She galloped behind Fawwaz with enough distance between them.

"Do you really think Fawwaz will be able to save you huh?" he said panting.

"Save me please Fawwaz" she whispered.

"What do I get in return?" he asked.

"I'll do anything you said"

"Anything?"

"Yes anything" Amir leaped forward, getting stuck by a hand on his chest.

"Calm down man, you know how she can be just let it go"

"I'll just draw it on your face then" before the family could react, the deed has already been done. Fawwaz closed his eyes. You could sense the anger that was about to explode out of him. Zara knew she got herself into more trouble.

After the fight, they've now settled down getting a scold from the family. Jawad as the eldest being the one talking

"Why are you people behaving like this, seriously, are you kids. Especially You and Amir" He pointed to the two "When will you start acting maturely. Amir, you're a managing director at your father's hotel which is not an easy job and you Zara you always create the trouble. I want you to sit down and rethink. It's better you stop your childishness"

"Let's just get the two married"
