Chapter Four

Lillie was determined to find a lover for Jennifer. She had provided her with Steve, a wealthy man with prestige in the community. Jennifer was not interested in him. She had already turned him down for a date. She still had her eyes on Paul. Lillie knew she had to find someone that would appeal to Jennifer. A man with money did not work. Lillie had to find someone that would catch the eye of Jennifer. But what would she do with the spell on Steve? She walked into the coffee shop and Steve was having a cup of coffee sitting alone at the bar. Lillie noticed an older lady, Mary, looking at the newspaper in the coffee shop, also sitting alone. She suddenly had the idea of finding a woman for Steve.

Lillie sat with Mary and talked for a while. Mary was in her late sixties. Her husband died many years ago. When Mary left the coffee shop, Lillie took the cup she had been drinking out of and rubbed her finger around the rim of the cup while chanting. She had placed a love spell on Mary. As Mary was walking on the sidewalk, she noticed Steve and began talking to him. The spell had worked. Mary was now in love with Steve. Steve still had the spell on him to love Jennifer. Lillie had to transform the spell of Steve to Mary instead of Jennifer. She also had to find a new lover for Jennifer so she could have Paul to herself.

When Mary looked into the eyes of Steve, they filled her body with a passion that was burning deep inside. She had not felt that way in years. She became weak in the knees. His eyes were the masterpiece she could not stop staring at. The smell of his cologne was intoxicating. Every time she thought of Steve, it filled her with butterflies. Steve walked away, but he never left her mind. Suddenly, every love song she heard was about Steve. Mary went to sleep that night, yearning to be with him. She woke up the next morning with a desire to see him, talk to him, just be in his presence. She went to the Coffee Shop hoping she would see him again.

Lillie went to the Coffee Shop to see Steve. She had to transfer his spell from Jennifer to Mary. Steve was sitting in the shop, drinking a cup of coffee. She sits at the table behind him. Mary walks in and sits at the table with Steve. The two enjoy a cup of coffee together. Mary asks Steve to come over for dinner. Steve politely told her he had other plans, but another day. Mary wrote her telephone number on a napkin and gave it to him.

Mary left the Coffee Shop wishing to receive a call from Steve. Steve left the Coffee Shop and walked across the street to the Art Gallery to see Jennifer. Lillie moved over to the table they were sitting at. Mary and Steve were drinking from cups that she took. She then placed the cups on top of each other, rim to rim. She held the cups in her hand and chanted a spell. At that moment, it would join the two hearts as one.

As Steve was at the Art Galley standing in front of the painting of the young maiden. Jennifer walks over to sell the painting to him. He looked at her and said, “I may not get to see you as often as I like. I may not get to show you how I really feel. But deep in my heart, I truly know you are the one I love and do not want to let you go. Will you please join me for dinner tonight?” Jennifer once again turned him down for the date. She had made plans to see Paul. Suddenly, all the feeling that Steve had toward Jennifer were gone. He reached into his pocket and retrieved the napkin with Mary’s telephone number. He telephoned Mary, but she did not answer the telephone.

Jennifer heard Paul had been seeing Lillie when she was at the hospital with her sister. Jennifer became angry and filled with joyously. She saw Steve walk into the coffee shop. She knew he would come to the Art Gallery just like he did every day. Steve walked into the Gallery and stood gazing into the painting of the beautiful young maiden in the flowing red dress. Jennifer walked over to him and started talking. It was the first time Steve did not ask her for a date. Jennifer asked Steve to have lunch with her at the coffee shop. Steve hesitated for a moment and accepted her invitation. He had asked her so many times. He did not want to hurt her feeling. Jennifer only wanted to date Steve to make Paul jealous.

It was the coldest day of Winter and time for Lillie to slaughter her pigs on Rose Garden Plantation for the freezer. She would process the pigs into meats to be eaten during the year. They salted the buttocks to produce ham. She would eat the ham for breakfast and on special occasions. The bulk of the meat would be cut and the ground to produce sausages. They fried some of the skin and fat to produce cracklings and lard. She would use the head of the pig to make souse. The pig was used to eat. She saved the pig blood to use in spells. She would put it in the freezer and use it as she needed.

Mary walked into the coffee shop and saw Steve and Jennifer having lunch together. Mary was hurt and ran out of the shop crying. She felt like someone had pushed a dagger through her heart and set it on fire. Became emotional and the tears just kept falling out of her eyes like someone broke a handle on a water faucet. It was so painful that she felt like if she died, everything would just stop and the pain would go away. She felt like the pain would never go away. She had not felt that way since her husband passed.

Lillie was in the Art Gallery and saw Mary running out of the coffee shop. She walked next door to the coffee shop and saw Steve and Jennifer having lunch. They were laughing and happy. She had now created a complicated situation with the spells she had already cast. Now she had to straighten things out. She did not want Steve or Mary to get hurt. All she wanted was Paul for herself. It would have been much easier if she could get some of Jennifer’s personal belonging. Then she could put a spell on Jennifer. But Jennifer would not let Lillie close enough to her. She would never see or agree to sit and talk with her over a cup of coffee.

Mary went to visit Lillie. Everybody knew she could cast spells. Mary wanted Steve to love her. She wanted Jennifer out of the picture. Lillie invited Mary inside to sit at the dining room table and have a hot cup of coffee with her. Mary began telling Lillie how much she loves Steve. She fell in love with Steve the first time she saw him. Mary asks Lillie to cast a spell on Steve that would make him see her in a new light, to see her as a potential romantic partner. She wanted him to feel drawn to her and see her best qualities.

Lillie stated, drawing a butterfly on a piece of paper. She told Mary to grip the paper in her hand and repeat the words. Element of air. I would like Steve to see me at the coffee shop because he wants to. Help me send this message to Steve. I will wait for him in the morning at the coffee shop. Lillie then asked Mary to write Steve’s name on the paper. While saying I want to see you. Mary then held the paper in her hand while asking the elements to send the message. She then folded the paper in three parts and placed it under her hands on the table. Steve will be at the coffee shop in the morning to see you. Mary went home excited about seeing Steve in the morning.

Lillie went into her studio and started painting a picture of a beautiful woman sitting in a swing in the garden. She was wearing a red sun hat that Lillie painted with pig blood. She was wearing a beautiful white sun dress with flowers on it. She was wearing white sandals and reading a book. The garden was a field with flowers. She painted the roses with a rose perfume. The perfume filled the room with the aroma of roses. She finished the painting and took it to the Art Gallery.
