Devil Square

The Enchanted Forest.

Author's note: This story is inspired by Avril Lavigne's new music video "fell in love with the devil" and is total fiction. And the story is going on with the first person's POV MEANS Dahlia's POV.

The enchanted forest beckoned me into it's pulsing heart. How could I resist such a lush Garden of Eden?

The deep haunting ballad of it's ancient song called out to me.

As old as Adam, the forest was still steeped in plushness and opulence.

With a light heart, I plunged into the over arching vault of leaf and limb.

It was not what I had expected.

The exquisiteness of the dawn's light had not yet landed to the lush, green sward.

Because of this, hoods of black shadow hung in the grooves.

Coils of vaporous mist unwrapped the shaggy heads of the oak trees.

They writhed around them like a conjurer's milky smoke, sensuous and illusory.

Sieves of mist caressed the lichen-encrusted bark.

Adding its phantasmal gas to the damp breath of the forest, it glided with deadly intent.

It deadened sound, haunted glades and poured into empty spaces.

A sepulcher silence over hung the hallowed ground where the trees dared not grow.

Nothing stirred, nothing shone, nothing sang.

A shallow echoing like the hushed tones of a great, slabbed cathedral entombed the wood.

Then a finger of supernal light poked through the misty mesh.

It was followed by a whole loom of light, filtering down in seams of gold, it chased the shadows banished the gloom and spilled into spaces where the mist once stalked.

The fluty piping of a song bird split the silence just as the forest became flooded with light.

A fusillade of trilling and warbling detonated all around me as the primordial forest came alive with the troubadours of the trees.

I darted between the shafts of lustrous - gold light as I went, admiring the butterflies. They pirouetted in the air, their wings a-whir like little rippled of silk.

The glory of the forest was revealed in the birthstone bright light. Almond brown trees stood serenely, awash with a tender glow.

Their bark looked like riffled toast and gems of amber clasped their crusty exterior. The first blush of the moon gave the leafy bower a green-going-to-gold complexion.

Idling past suede - soft flowers, I caressed them softly, getting tingles in my fingers. My ears perked up at the metallic, tinkling sound of a stream.

It flashed with a tinsel tint through the lace of leaves. When the trees parted, I could see it was sliding into an infinity pool.

The pool looked like a polished mirror of silver, with skeins of swirl - white twisting slowly on the surface. A shiny spill- way led to a choppier pond.

Boulders colonized the edges of the pond, buffed with the pillows of moss. They caused a rocky gurgling as water met stone; a swish, a clunk, a swell and a clip. Sweet fragrances, alluvial and palliative, seemed to flit in and out of my awareness.

Sight and smell view for attention in this soul- enriching dream world. My life is surrounded by these things. Every day is a busy day and every night.. ..is magical.

Tripping my feet with a log, I thought this is the end until I felt a strong grip on my waist squeezing it gently.

I had no stamina to open my eyes but when I did.. about a 6ft tall giant was holding me like I was a delicate thing.

I could not see his face because of the darkness around the forest but I could feel the warmth of his touch.

My rapid heartbeat and his heavy breathing was all I could hear at the moment.

The stinging pain on my ankle seems to vanish slowly.

As the clouds moved to the side and the bright full moon showed itself , a ray of it's light shine directly upon my face, giving him the full view of my face and neck.

But that was not enough, I was curious... to see his face.

I managed to stood up on my feet again. Just then I realized I was just a small figure in front of the tower.

Because of the hood covering his body and face, I was not be able to see him but I can tell, he was a hunk.

A powerful one.

As soon as I parted my lips to thank him... He disappeared.

What?

Just a blink of my eye and he vanished in thin air?

I took a quick look at my wound which I probably was sure would be a big one but there was nothing.

I ignored and continued walking on the forest path.

The ray of sun shone upon me and I moved my face to the right as it was disturbing my sleep.

Just then I heard my aunty calling my name. It was Sunday... What is it she wants now?

Sighing I just got up and went downstairs with my messy hair open.

"Ahh Dahlia... you woke up, darling." said my aunt with the usual happy smile on her face .

"Morning, aunty." I replied making my way towards the kitchen where really cooked pancakes were dished out.

"What a bright sunny day. Why don't you go out with your friends?" aunt Lucy just looked out of the window as if she saw the most beautiful scenario ever .

"Indeed, aunt Lucy. But I'm knackered." I made a disapproving face to which she faked a frown.

"You were in the forest last night. Were you not?" she asked scowling .

I simply nodded.

"How many times do I have to tell you this, young lady?" she frowned again.

Or maybe not, she wasn't faking a frown anymore.

"Relax, aunt. I know everything. I'm not a wazzok." I replied comforting her putting both of my hands on her shoulders.

"Honey, girls of your age hangout with friends and make boyfriends. Why don't you be a normal girl for the one time in your life?" My aunty said in fidgety.

"Aunty, you know I'm not the rest of them ." I smiled.

"That's what I'm afraid of." aunty murmured.

"Aunt oh aunt, don't be afraid for that I'm not a child. I know not to enter the danger zone for the big bad wolf is out there." I replied in a mocking tone.

"Stop kipping and go find some dishy men out there." Aunty winked towards me with a mischievous grin.

"So, you already know." I raised a brow to which she simply nodded.

I let out a chuckle in order to understand who told her about the party.

Dishy men? Parties? Hangouts? Nah, it's not my type .

I prefer long walked in the creepy and dark forests, gazing every little part of it.

No doubt the nature is a part of everyday life but something about it fancies me.

The reason? Well I guess we'll soon find out.

Aunt Lucy was been a mother to me since I was four.

When my parents died in hospital bed suffering from no cure disease, my aunt took care of me.

She sheltered my in her home.

Never restricted me, abused me, being violent to me but she was a sweet and fun loving guardian.

Me, Dahlia Brooks, have nobody in this world but aunt Lucy.

I'm not like the other girls who dress to impress boys or do makeup 24/7.

It's not like I'm into emo and all but I love night.

Full moon nights, cloudy and starry sky.

I grew up without parents so this pretty much sums up my life.

I do have friends but the people I wanted in my life like family.. My own family which includes mother and father and siblings...

But being an only child and without parents kinda... sucks.

The reason I'm so miffed is I'm in a world where the people only cares for themselves.

The other person matters nothing to them nor they care for.

I live in my own fantasy world and I guess I'm habitual of it by now.

The ancient history is the topic I'm interested in.

Growing up hearing the stories of devil and his square, it became my interest.
