Chapter Two

Three long years passed, and Scarlet was still playing her part as Brodey, having been on the run for what felt like her whole life first as Gypsies then later alone without their Tribe to protect them. Scarlet now Brodey had become an expert at her craft, there wasn’t a pocket she couldn’t pick. It had been so long since Brodey had called herself Scarlet that she had nearly forgotten about her altogether and after a while, even her father had seemed to forget.

Brodey cleaned his knife as he waited on the stairs of Miss Vivian’s Brothel waiting for his father to free his demons as he called it. The tavern below was getting rowdy; Brodey shook his head as he watched two drunk men fighting over an ugly whore. He could hear moaning and grunting from the rooms above and the steady squeaks of the beds as they scraped against the wood floors. A small and rather chunky whore with red hair walked toward him fanning herself with a frilly red-feathered fan. “Well if it isn’t my sweet-faced boy, you have been coming here with your father for years about time you start getting some pussy for yourself.

Brodey nodded in agreement “You’re right about that but not tonight, as soon as my father’s done with Angel he and I are out of here.

The redhead shrugged “To bad you sure are a pretty boy, sweet to taste too no doubt.

When Brodey’s father came out of Angel’s room, he was still putting his dick back in his pants. “Is the coach ready boy, London’s waiting?

Brodey nodded wearing an excited smile as he stood on the stairs waiting for him “Ready and parked in the back, Sir.

After slapping Angel on the ass, he started down the stairs with Brodey right behind him. London was an exciting town and with all the pubs, brothels, boarding houses and gambling halls everywhere they went Brodey and his father knew they could take the town by the balls, all Brodey had to do was keep an eye on his father and make sure he didn’t go overboard and lose everything again.

As they made their way from pub to pub Brodey had kept his father fairly in check and Brodey was raking in the dough by the handfuls. To be on the safe side they were emptying their pockets every hour and hiding their swag in their coach just in case they were found out. On their fourth day in town, Brodey left his father’s side for only a moment to hide all the money and jewelry in their coach.

They had been up for days and Brodey was feeling it as he rubbed at his tired eyes. The rain was falling hard, and it was cold as he ran back through the rain toward the gambling hall. Seeing a group of men coming out the side door stopped him in his tracks straining to see through the heavy rain his heart dropped at the sight of his father being drug out into the muddy alley next to the trash. Trying to get closer Brodey hoped he would have the chance to help his father but there were four men and only him and his drunk father to fight them off. All he could do was stay hidden in the alley and pray that they would only ruff him up. Helplessly standing by Brodey tried to move in closer, the last thing he could remember seeing was his father on his knees in a mud puddle as he was shot in the head by some big dirty fat man. The sound of their laughter afterward was something he would never be able to forget.

“Find the boy he and his father can share the same fate.

One of his men spoke up “Damn Frank he’s only a boy; let’s just get back to our game.” Frank shrugged “Lucky for him I guess, the damn brat has it coming though.

Choking on his tears Brodey hid behind a pile of trash as they walked past. When they had gone, he cautiously, walked over and kneeled in the mud puddle his father lied in. Dragging him farther into the shadows Brodey checked his father’s pockets and removed his father’s Gypsy medallion before walking away. “Bye Daddy.

After watching his father be shot and killed Brodey snuck back to their coach and collected his things and that nights earnings before taking to the streets. The first night was the hardest, upset and feeling heartbroken Brodey walked the streets in fear, the cold rain soaking him to the bone. Unable to sleep he huddled in the alley across from the Pawn Brokers trying to keep out from under the rain until morning. Mourning his father, he tried to figure out his next move, should he become Scarlet his true self or remain the boy his father had created.

The thought of being a girl living on the streets of London all alone was a scary thought. At thirteen she would be under constant attack, Brodey was sure that not only would she be taken advantage of but would most likely be put to work at one of the local brothels.

It was on that night that Brodey put Scarlet away promising herself that Scarlet would one day live again. Living on the streets was hard for Brodey at first, avoiding the workhouse and Newgate prison even harder. Trying to find a safe place out of the elements wasn’t always the easiest, everywhere he looked people were begging for help hovered on stairwells fighting in the streets for other people’s scraps. Fingers black from collecting coal off the streets swallowing pride as they had never tasted it before.

Learning the streets and finding the corners he could hide in always helped. But after a while he met a fellow thief named Emmett and stayed with him on and off for a few years depending on if Emmett had a woman staying with him, the apartment was too small for three hell it was like two closets separated by a door and it didn’t give Brodey the privacy he needed but it was warmer than outside and Brodey was grateful. When he wasn’t staying there, he was on the streets with the other street kids; anywhere he could stay warm and out of the rain. Brodey was getting older and no matter what he looked like on the outside she was becoming a woman under all that dirt and needed her own place. After working as a pickpocket in her Brothel and giving her a healthy cut for few months Miss Stella, a local Madam offered to rent Brodey a small room at the Brothel for a small cut of his earnings.

The only real downside was the constant sounds of people fucking all around him. Not that he didn’t have to hear that at Emmett’s but he figured hearing a bunch of stranger’s fuck would be easier than hearing Emmett and his tarts. Brodey also made deals with a few of the other taverns and brothel owners, they welcomed him into their establishments, and he would rob their customers blind then give them a cut.

There were many different gangs that walked the streets of London. The Banger Boys were a good lot of boys and over the years Brodey had befriended and worked with them many times giving him some needed protection and some extra work on the side on occasion. The other gangs were a different story altogether; as long as he stayed to his own territory, he was safe, well most of the time at least.

It was Xavier’s second night in London and his mood was as somber as ever. Hungry he headed to Molly T’s a Tavern with the best food in town, well as far as Xavier cared. Walking through the door the room went quiet, all eyes’ on him, noticing a difference Molly looked toward the door wearing a welcoming smile. “Well, well it seems our Dark Lord has returned, hell I haven’t seen you in months, you used to visit every weekend.” she wore a sexy pout.

Xavier shrugged “Guess I haven’t been all that hungry lately but I must say you’re looking as tasty as ever.

Molly looked back toward the door “You alone tonight?

Xavier chuckled “When have I not been.

Molly walked over to an empty table and picked up some dirty glasses then pulled out his chair. The room had resumed its loud and rowdy nature and Xavier sat down, “My usual.

Molly gave a small curtsy then ran to get it bringing him first a beaker of her best brandy. Xavier scanned the room; every man in the room seemed to cower at his evil glare. Taking a long drink, he put down his glass to find a large man with oily red hair walking toward him swaying as he walked bumping the table causing Xavier’s drink to spill. “Looks like these London born pussies are scared of you, funny really I haven’t seen anything about you that scares me, that includes your strange manner of dress.

The tavern watched in silence as Xavier scooted back his chair and stood up growling as he wiped the spilled brandy from off the front of his suit looking up, he wore an angry scowl. “I don’t waste my time worrying about what anyone thinks; I do on the other hand have an objection to having a smelly drunk spill my drink and spoil my suit.

Looking at the door, Xavier walked around the table to face the man. “Let’s take this outside I’d rather not bust up Molly’s Tavern she’s a good woman and works way too hard for us to mess up her place.

The stranger gave an angry growl as he picked up a glass and threw it at Xavier, missing him he ended up splashing the watching crowd, Xavier was up in his face and dragging him outside within seconds. “Did you not hear me; are you trying to piss me off even more?

Wrinkling his nose Xavier shook his head “Damn man when is the last time you bathed, you’re leaving a rotten stench trailing behind you?

The onlookers laughed as they followed them out into the street anxious to see some action. The stranger struggled as Xavier threw him down into the dirt then watched as he got back onto his feet almost foaming at the mouth. “You son of a bitch, no one fuck’s with Derrick Kline and gets away with it.

Xavier laughed as he watched him putting up his fists and jumping back and forth. “You have got to be kidding; you fight like a little boy flailing your arms around.

Derrick swung at Xavier missing only to bend over in pain as Xavier punched him in the stomach then stepped back and waited for him to stand back up. Ready to get it over with Xavier swung hitting Derrick in the jaw and bringing him down, kneeling over him Xavier punched him across the face again and again until he started to make gurgling noises and his blood-covered Xavier hands and was splattered down the front of his coat. Still, pissed off Xavier walked back into Molly’s almost laughing as the watching crowd split giving him a wide birth. Molly met him halfway with a new drink and a clean towel to wipe off with his food already waiting for him.

“As I said, you’re a good woman, thanks, honey.

Molly smiled “You headed over to Angie’s tonight?

Xavier nodded “Its Friday isn’t it, guess I’m not as mysterious as everyone thinks.” Molly laughed “Don’t go selling yourself short just yet.

The first time Brodey caught sight of Lord Xavier Greystone was in Angie’s Tavern. One of the newer establishments that Brodey had added to his daily route his last tavern of the night before heading home, well most the time at least. Greystone always wore a scowl putting off a wicked presence, a quiet man of dire consequence, emotionless and altogether unpleasant.

He always sat in the back with his back to the wall giving him a full view of the tavern around him. He was always dressed in all black with a black hat that sat low on his head, he dressed unusually for the times, and he definitely had his own ideas about men’s fashion. After catching sight of him Brodey found it nearly impossible to look away, as evil as he looked, and people thought him to be Brodey saw something else and whatever he was Brodey liked it.

After weeks of watching him from afar, Brodey still couldn’t help but search him out, only in London for the weekend’s Friday became Brodey’s one and only chance to see him, making Friday Brodey’s favorite day of the week. Angie’s Tavern was full to bursting when Brodey arrived, searching him out Brodey found Xavier staring right at him as if he too had noticed him. He seemed somewhat pleased to see Brodey and his normal scowl had turned into a pleasant smile directed right at him lasting only seconds before his scowl returned. His light gray eyes seemed to pierce through the men he was playing cards with, and as Brodey worked his way through the tavern he could feel the dark stranger’s eyes on him.

One Friday while working the room at Angie’s Brodey got even closer to the mysterious stranger; Xavier gave him a curt nod then spoke in a whisper when Brodey stood before him.

“You can try if you like,” then he leaned back in his chair and winked at him before he went back to his game. It was the first time they had spoken and Brodey felt warm all over as he nervously replied. “I don’t want your money.

Xavier looked amused “Oh really what exactly do you want then.

Brodey gave a nervous laugh feeling almost giddy “I want every day to be Friday.

Xavier turned and gave the boy his full attention, “Once a week doesn’t seem like enough does it?

Brodey was shocked and amazed that he had even noticed that they had been seeing each other every Friday right at seven o’clock, he seemed to be very interested in him and that made Brodey very pleased. Brodey was mesmerized with him so much so that he waited for him outside hoping to get one last look at him before heading home. When Greystone walked out, he approached his driver for a moment then turned and walked down the street headed in the same direction that Brodey was going. Curious Brodey followed him at a distance watching as people on the street stayed clear of him, whispers following after him as if they were scared of him and all of his dark ways.

When Brodey saw Xavier walk into Stella’s he felt a sting of jealousy, the thought of him with one of Stella’s girls was very upsetting, to say the least. Which was beyond strange since he himself had only spoken to the man once and had only seen him a few times over the past weeks? Brodey watched as the dark stranger walk past Brodey’s small room and headed toward Luna’s, the second the women caught sight of him they started approaching him. Brodey watched on as he dismissed them and continued on to Luna’s and knocked.

Luna was a beautiful blonde with big light blue eyes, when she opened the door, she smiled big as she welcomed him in.

“Pleasure to see you again Lord Greystone.

Xavier removed his hat “The pleasure is all mine.

When the door shut behind him Brodey felt like knocking down the door and stopping them, but what would that look like, a little boy in a jealous rage. Brodey couldn’t find it in himself to walk away, so he waited unsure why, but he waited anyway. Nearly an hour passed the sounds of him and Luna having sex and her cries of ecstasy made Brodey wish it was Scarlet in his arms and not Luna. As much as it hurt Brodey just couldn’t walk away. When the door finally opened, and Xavier stepped out Brodey watched wide-eyed as he adjusted his clothes and replaced his hat then walked away leaving Brodey watching after him. When Luna showed herself, she looked flushed and tousled, looking very satisfied she leaned into the doorway and watched him go, when she saw Brodey she smiled. “Evening Brodey.

Brodey shrugged still very envious “Who was that man?

Luna smiled “Lord Xavier Greystone, he’s an old friend that visits me on occasion, why do you ask?

Brodey shrugged “Don’t really know, tonight isn’t the first time I’ve seen him, he seems rather interesting and well very exciting.

Luna smiled as she lite a cigar “He definitely is a passionate man in bed but he doesn’t stay long afterward he’s not all that into pillow talk if you know what I mean.

Brodey started to walk away then stopped and turned “Is he a good lover?

Luna laughed curious as to why a boy would ask such a question “One of the best I’ve ever had and that’s saying a lot coming from the likes of me. Unlike most of my Johns, he gives as much as he takes, and he has a lot to give if you catch my drift.” Brodey smiled “Have a good night, by the look of downstairs I’d say it will be a profitable one.

Luna laughed “Always is, this town is stocked full of horny men, thanks to Xavier I got my prize early tonight hell I won’t be getting it from anyone else.

That night Brodey laid on his small bed looking up at the ceiling and thinking of him, the mysterious stranger that would no doubt haunt his dreams. Laying there surrounded by the constant sounds of moaning and grunting and the squeaking of beds filled Brodey’s head with ideas, imagining it was Scarlet laying naked in Xavier’s arms instead of Luna. Scarlet’s body coming alive with desire as Xavier’s large warm hands grazed over her skin. Brodey’s thighs seemed to burn the more he pictured Xavier and Scarlet together.

Still fully dressed like Brodey, Scarlet felt the wet heat between her legs, her breath became labored as she let her fingers explore her body imagining it was him. Moaning she pleasured herself until she met her own sexually peek.

Falling asleep to thoughts of his dark Lord and waking with a smile as he rose to get his day started and with a new week came the anticipation of when Brodey would see his dark Lord again.

Xavier Greystone was the last living decedent of Greystone he alone and a handful of servants lived in his family home in Rochester, Greystone Manor was a large estate, well-kept but had a dark and foreboding feel. Xavier was known as a dark and mysterious character that had a style all his own, he didn’t favor the men’s clothing trends of the time and was in no way a peacock so he had his suits tailored to fit his own style, his suits were black form-fitted and his coats long for which he wore with a black hat worn low and tipped forward.

Xavier tended to keep to himself except for spending his weekends at his townhouse in London. He was a joyless man with a healthy taste for gambling and liked to frequent a few of the local gambling halls and taverns. His favorite was Angie’s Tavern a close friend of him and of his fathers before he passed on.

The London society knew of him well and of his title as Lord Greystone, even as strange as he was and they all thought him to be, he was invited to all the towns’ events. At the age of twenty-five and still being single, the women flocked to him, yet he had no interest in courting a woman at least none he had met, and he had no plans on searching out Misses Right when he doubted she would or could even exist. Being pleasant wasn’t an emotion Xavier could fake for long, making his already shadowy character even grimmer. He was a dangerous and eccentric man that given the chance would ignore London’s society altogether. But with a name and title as Lord Greystone, he tried to make it to at least two functions a year to keep up appearances and to honor his family name.

As months passed Xavier and Brodey grew to know each other rather well, well as much as they could at a distance and they continued meeting up every Friday at seven p.m. Very few words were spoken between them, their game was more of a visual type of thing, a reserved flirtation, a few moments once a week where they shared long glances and smiles. Brodey could admit he was infatuated with the dark lord. And the fact that Xavier had an interest in him and had actually started smiling when he saw him was very exciting for Brodey if it wasn’t for stealing Brodey would think of nothing else. Even as a boy they held a strong connection and they both knew it.

After finding himself thinking about the boy and smiling at the memory of him ever so smoothly picking the man’s pocket who sat across the poker table from him and the sly smile he had sent his way as he had done it, he had to laugh at himself as he rode into London a half-hour earlier than usual knowing good and well he had hopes of learning more about the boy and thought Angie might be the woman to ask. When he walked into Angie’s Pub, he looked around before walking and sitting down at the bar. When Angie saw him, she smiled and rushed over to greet him. “Lord Greystone you’re arriving earlier than usual and you’re sitting at the bar, something's, up so spills it?

Xavier laughed “I hate when you call me Lord Greystone, I’ve known you too long for such niceties. Give me a beaker of your finest brandy.

Angie smiled at him “It’s nice to see you smile and laugh once in a while, even if it is only on Friday.

Angie winked at him then floated away wearing a smile while Xavier sat giving the men around him a curt nod, Greystone had earned a reputation for being mysterious and obscure and well different which scared most people. Having all heard stories about him and his short temper the men kept their distance smiling or not. Xavier wore his black hair on the longer side falling to just under his jawline and tucked behind his ears, his light gray eyes were intense as they watch the people as they moved around the room. Checking his watch, he looked toward the door then turn back and smiled at Angie, Xavier was unclear why, but he had a lot of interest in the boy pickpocket, he found it fascinating to watch him at work floating around the room unnoticed. Angie smiled at him as she poured the brandy “So let’s hear it.

Xavier shrugged “What’s the story with Brodey?

Angie shrugged unsure if she should just tell him the truth that only a few even knew. “What exactly do you know about Brodey?

Xavier shrugged “Not much why?

Angie leaned on the bar in front of him “Brodey can be a bit of a mystery. Wouldn’t think it looking at him, but he has Gypsy blood running through his veins, why he’s not with his people I don’t know?

Xavier finished off his brandy and Angie poured him another “A mystery that’s the truth, there is just something about him, and I can’t put my finger on it.” Angie smiled “You watch Brodey, I know you do.

Angie paused a moment then leaned in “Brodey can clean out every man in the room like a bee going from flower to flower, ever wonder why he never picks your pocket?

Xavier nodded “We seem to have a connection, hell Angie if Brodey’s in a room I can’t seem to not watch him. And being the man that I am I have to say that’s some fucked up shit.

Angie laughed “I wouldn’t worry on it so much, ever thought of really talking to him maybe it will help you understand why you’re feeling the way you are.

A man sat down next to Xavier so close it made him growl as he turned and glared at him. “I’m in the middle of a private conversation with Angie so walk away now that you have a chance; you’re making me mad all over just sitting by me.

The large man was up off his barstool and backing away with his hands up in the air in defeat within seconds. “Sorry Lord Greystone I ain’t looking for any trouble.

Xavier shook his head in disbelief as he turned and looked toward the door. Angie smiled across the bar at him as she wiped out a glass “Almost seven o’clock darling you should go sit down.

Xavier sighed “Hell Angie this isn’t me, it’s totally out of my character maybe I should just leave.

Angie walked around the bar and lightly tucked a stray hair back behind his ear “I can still remember the first time your father brought you here, so small he sat you up onto the bar. Damn I miss that man, Honey as strange as this all might feel to you, I’d hate for you to disappoint Brodey.

Xavier laughed “Disappoint?

Angie nodded “I say this little game you two play has gone on long enough, I’d say it’s about time you two talked, really talked.

Xavier looked at Angie with a look of confusion unsure what she meant “Damn Angie Sometimes I wish you would just talk straight.

Angie smiled big then shrugged “Hell boy just go sit down and it all will become clear soon enough I’m sure.

Brodey had a good day and his pockets were heavy as he walked up to a few of his friends, Emmett their obvious leader walked up with a sly smile and gave Brodey a firm pat on the back. Brodey smiled proudly “Damn if I didn’t touch every pocket in town.

Emmett gave a cocky smile “I got my fair share, whatcha doing around here it’s almost seven and Angie’s is at least four blocks away.

Brodey looked up at the sky in a panic “Hell sure doesn’t feel like seven, I’ll have to run if I want to make it in time.” Brodey turned to leave but Emmett stopped him “Hell Brodey how long are you going to keep this up?

Brodey shook his head then leaned in and whispered “What would you have me do Emmett walk up and introduce myself as Scarlet looking the way I do; all I have or will ever have is Friday. I can’t miss it.

Emmett couldn’t help but laugh “Brodey or not I have been seeing a lot of Scarlet in you lately.

Brodey gave Emmett his sexiest smile showing him another peek of Scarlet’s beauty even if under the grim of London streets. “You’re right about one thing I’m all woman and as horny as hell, the last time I got any action was like a year ago and it was with you.

Emmett laughed “It’s having to listen to a house filled with whore’s all fucking at once.” Brodey turned to leave “Maybe you’re right Emmett, maybe your right.

Brodey ran toward Angie’s dodging people as they walked toward him, running through the streets knowing he was late. When he saw the Greystone coach, he sighed in relief and slowed down trying to catch his breath before walking in, he felt nervous as he walked in and looked toward Greystone’s table. He looked downright handsome and was staring right at him with a slight but seductive smile on his face. Brodey’s heart felt like it was beating out of his chest. Just the sight of him made his toes curl, seeing Brodey walk-in Angie walked up and patted him on his back “Looks like you were running late tonight.

Brodey smiled as he caught his breath and took the mug of ale Angie handed him. Walking toward an empty barstool he shrugged “Make it two Angie my pockets are heavy, and I almost missed my seven O clock appointment.” Angie chuckled “No worries, he got here earlier than usual.

Brodey shrugged “Hell I ran as fast as I could.

Angie moved in close and whispered, “Hell Brodey maybe you could walk in here as Scarlet one of these times.

Brodey looked over at Xavier and sighed “Do you think he would even recognize me?” Angie laughed “Honey I doubt you would even recognize yourself.

Brodey laughed then turned and looked backed at Xavier to find him looking straight at him his gray eyes fierce and he was wearing a fetching smile. Xavier had to laugh at himself for even waiting for the boy. He found this little game they have been playing to be fascinating, he would never admit it but when the boy looked at him his whole body seemed to react and it confused the hell out of him, but he couldn’t make himself stop thinking about him,

They truly had a connection and he had never even really talked to the boy and he had to know why. Brodey worked the crowd well, floating here and there cleaning everyone out but him. He watched Brodey as he took Angie aside and gave her a cut of the spoils.

Before stepping out Brodey stopped and turned and looked right at Xavier and smiled then ducked out before he was caught. Unlike most Fridays Xavier followed Brodey curious to know where he was going. He wanted more he needed more information on the boy seeing him at Angie’s for a mere few hours was no longer enough. Brodey walked home taking his time wearing an easy smile when he walked into Stella’s Brothel Xavier followed watching as he was greeted by the ladies.

At first, Xavier figured the boy was there to get some action as any boy would, even a pickpocket has needs. He found it odd when Brodey made his way passed the welcoming women and through the parlor only to disappear into a small room near the back. Strange that he felt a ping of relief at the knowledge that he wasn’t there for sex why he didn’t know but he felt it all the same. Now that he knew where the boy lived, he turned to leave, the sound of beds creaking, and moans of pleasure surrounded him. A red-haired woman walked over to him “Hey honey you looking for some fun?

Xavier shook his head “Sure is loud in here tonight.” The woman laughed “We wouldn’t be doing our jobs if it wasn’t.

The red-haired woman looked toward Luna’s door “Need me to find Luna for you?” Xavier shook his head “Not tonight darling just looking around.

The woman gave him a weird look assuming he was there to find Brodey “Did someone rob you and you followed him here?” Xavier shook his head “I’m not looking to cause any harm just curious is all.” The woman shrugged “If you’re here to see Brodey I sent him out on an errand he won’t be back for a while. If you like you can leave him a note the boy can read and write just fine.

Xavier knew Brodey was there but didn’t knock instead he wrote him a note and put under the door and walked away. Seeing the note slide from under the door Brodey picked it up and read it. “You amuse me as does this game you and I have been playing, unsure why I find you so appealing and exciting. I’d love to find out what secrets you’re keeping behind those fierce green eyes. Until we meet again Xavier Greystone.

Brodey’s heart dropped as he clutched the note, even his written word could make him melt he almost wanted to chase after him. “He finds me amusing and appealing and called my eyes fierce.” Brodey laid back onto his bed and held the note to his chest. The thought of having to wait another full week to see him was pure torture.

It was a long week for Brodey with more than one close call; he was frustrated yet looking forward to Friday. Sitting in his room he emptied his pockets and sorted through his daily spoils. Hiding some in a tin box hidden under the loose wood flooring beneath his bed and the rest was on its way to the Pawn Broker. Hearing someone knock he hid the rest under his pillow and moved the bed back against the wall then answered the door, Emmett was still flirting with one of Stella’s ladies when Brodey opened the door. Emmett stepped back doing a slow turn as he showed Brodey his new vest and jacket. “Well, whatcha think?

Brodey laughed “You look very handsome, I’m sure all of your Lady friends will agree, so what are your plans?” Emmett smiled “First you and I get a bottle of something strong and catch us some food after that I’m going to make some lucky Lady very happy.

Brodey laughed “I think you may be spreading yourself a little thin.” Emmett shrugged “Me never, it’s not at all possible.” Emmett was a handsome young man and women were drawn to him he was smart and sexy, a smooth talker that oozed charm. It had only taken him two days to figure out Brodey was a woman and only two days after that to take her to his bed. He was a good lover and an easy way to get laid when the feelings arouse.
