Jazz Music and Slow Dance

I was applying eyeliner when my phone beeped on the dresser beside me. Ignoring it, I continue putting on my makeup. Seth was going to be here any minute and I was way behind time.

I can't believe I actually agreed going out with him a second time, but I had a really good time last week at the club.

Seth Parker knows how to have fun and I needed someone like that in my life. Not that Iris isn't fun, but she wasn't single which meant she was always unavailable. With all these cases that I am working on, I need to get loose now and again, and Seth Parker seemed like the right guy to get loose with.

Maroon 5 ft Cardi B- 'Girl Like You' started playing on my phone, it was my new song obsession and also my new ringtone. I reach over and pick up my phone.

Speak of the devil and he shall call.

Putting my phone on speaker, I placed it back on the dresser.

"I'm in the parking lot of your apartment." His voice sounded chill coming through the speakers.

"I'm coming, give me two minutes," I said while looking for my matte lipsticks.

"Okay, ten minute it is." I rolled my eyes at his statement.

"I'll be there in a few." Finding my LA girls matt lipstick, I quickly open it and start applying it to my lips.

"Decades or centuries."

I jeer at myself. I wasn't that bad. I'm only a few minutes behind and that was because I totally forgot about him coming to pick me up tonight.

"You know if you keep talking to me, it makes me move slower"

He hissed teeth a little then respond, "Of course, I forgot women are terrible at multitasking." Before I could answer the line went dead.

I rolled my eyes at his sexist comment. Everyone knows women are better at multitasking.

I place the lipstick back in my makeup bag and start packing up the other stuff. When I was finished, I stand in front of the mirror and looked at myself. My makeup was simple and not cake faced. I look good.

I moved away from the dresser and walked over to my bed taking a seat. I bent over and start putting on my heels that were at the foot of my bed.

Standing up, I tug on my black dress because it slid up when I sat down. Grabbing my purse from off my bed, I exit my bedroom.

"Bye, babies," I said to my dog and her sleeping pups.

I took the key from my key stand and close the door behind me. I walked over to the elevator and pressed the down button. I did a silent prayer hoping that the elevator was empty when it came but god didn't answer it. When the elevator doors slid open Woody, a guy that lives on the 13th floor was in there.

He smiled when I walked in. "You looked great. Girls night out?"

I looked across at the thirty-something-year-old man and offered a fake smile. "No, I'm going out with a friend."

"A male friend?" And this just one example why I hate elevator talks.

Don't get me wrong, Woody was a nice guy, but he talks way too much for a man. I always left the elevator knowing way more than I should.

"Yes, He's male."

"Ah! So where are you guys going?" Maybe because he was single he didn't have anyone else to annoy so he choices to disrupt his neighbour's silence.

"No idea. He plans, and I just go."

"You trust him like that?"

Nodding my head, I answered, "Yes, I do."

"How long have you known him?"

Why do you care? I mentally sigh. I look up at the reader, we were on the 6th floor, almost there.

"I've known him since High School."

"Ah cool!" he stayed silent for a while, so I know he was finished asking the questions now it was my turn.

I looked over at the blond. "So, what about you, where are you going?"

"I'm going to Walmart and then go look for my girl."

"Ohhhh, you're going to get some sexy time," I said in a fruity voice and a smile on my face. So he wasn't single after all.

"No, I'm going to look for my daughter." The smile off my face was gone immediately. I didn't know he had a daughter.

"I'm so sorry. I didn't know you have a daughter, I just.." before I could completely sentence the elevator stops.

"See you later," I look at his as I exit the elevator, but his face was no longer smiling but black. I quickly walked away from the awkward scene. They must be something going on to make his facial expression change in a matter of seconds.

I shake my head, I can't think about the unhappy look on my neighbour's face right now, I need to go out and have fun tonight because today is going to be one hell-a-of day.

Pushing the last lobby door open, I exit the building and walked over to the parking lot. I spot Seth's Honda. I walked over to it, Seth was on his phone, so I knocked on the passenger window to get his attention.

When he turned and saw me his pearly white teeth start showing. I rolled my eyes and smiled, I couldn't help it, his smile was contagious. When he opened the door, I entered.

"Ready to try something new?"

I looked over at him with a slight smile on my face. "Depends on what that something new involves."

He smiled at me before giving his full attention to the car. After he started the engine, he spoke, "You'll love this."

..........

"I've got to admit. This is not what I expected when you said something new." My face was how radiant I was. I looked across at the African American man with the Saxophone in his hands, his head rocking to the sound he was playing.

I couldn't help but rock too. "I didn't know Jazz music was so calming." I bent my head and took a sip of my Lime Mojitos.

Seth smiled, "Yea. It is very calming. It's my favourite genre of music."

Rocking to the music, I smiled, "I can understand why." I looked at the dance floor and a lot of couples were slow dancing. They looked at peace.

"Do you want to dance?" I smile at Seth, I thought he'd never ask.

Nodding my head, I started to get up from my seat. Seth took my hand his hand helped me down. We walked over to the dancing couples.

"I'm not the best of dancers." I was an awful dancer, but I just had to accept his offer. The Atmosphere was romantic, and I wanted to be a part of it.

"I'm not either but all we have to do is follow the others," Seth assured. Seth pulled me closer to him, his hands around my waist. I rest my head his shoulder and my hands around his neck just like the other women with their partners and we started to move slowly.

I could smell the cologne on his shirt and it smelled great, he smelled great. I smile in content and closed my eyes. This was the nicest feeling ever.

"Hey, It's getting a bit late. Do you want us to get out of here?" I opened my eyes to the sound of Seth's voice. I had no idea how long we have been dancing for but all I know it had been the best time I've had in a long time. The feel of his arms around my waist, my head rest on his shoulder was a great feeling.

"Okay, why don't we go to your place and listen to some more jazz music. You must have some CD's since it's your favourite." I don't why I just asked to go to his place, but I was curious, maybe it was the mojitos talking or the fact that I enjoyed his arms way too much.

Nodding his head, he responded. "I have a mountain of Jazz CDs."

Pulling away from his arms, I said. "Perfect, let's go!"

.....

"Wow, I'm amazed." I let my eyes travelled around his apartment. Very masculine and very clean. He had furnished wooden floors; his wall was painted in dark grey and he even had a large bookshelf.

"Thanks. Make yourself comfortable, I'm going to put on the music." He hangs his key up and walked away leaving me to browse.

I used my left foot to remove the heels from my right foot then vice versa, before I knew it, I was bare feet. I walked over to his grey leather couch and took a seat. I look over at Seth and he goes through a list of CDs. He looked mighty sexy.

"You don't have to sit and watch me, you know." He said from the corner of the room. "You can go get a drink if you want."

"No, I am waiting on you, so we can continue our dance." And start a new one.

Laughing, he said. "I'll be there in a sec, just got to.. Perfect." Smooth Jazz music starts playing around the house. I looked beside me to see a standing speaker

"You have a great sound system."

"Thanks, I like to listen to music loud." He moved away from the player and walked over to me at the couch. He reached out his hands and I gladly take it. We walked over to the empty area of the apartment and then he pulled me close in his arms. We start moving slowly to the music.

"So, does this always work?" I inquired, my head resting lightly on his shoulder and my arms around his neck.

"What do you mean?" his low breath on my neck.

"You bring a girl to a Jazz club, get's her obsessed with Jazz and slow dancing then bring her back to your place."

He laughs, "Well, just moved here so you're the only girl who has ever been in here and to answer your question no. I use Jazz as a way to calm me down and normally woman and calm are opposites."

I laughed and moved my hands from his neck, "Well, you sure got me to calm down." I let my hands travelled down to his belt buckles.

He groans, "Are you sure you want to go there?"

Moving my head away from his shoulder I looked into his eyes. "I think the Mojitos is helping me talk right now but yes, I really want to go there."

He licks his lips and smile. He looked so sexy doing that. "You going to regret it in the morning."

Pulling on the belt, I lick my lip as well. "I probably will but I know it's going to be a great regret."

"There is no such thing as a great regret."

"Stop talking and kiss me." And he did.
