Build Me, Engineer

Prologue

"Are you even watching your way?" I automatically look at the kid, not obviously like seven but seems too old for ten neither. She's picking up her doll from the floor but her face is still void of frustration. I glance at the other kid, now scratching his nape. He is wearing a checkered black and red polo and a knee-high boots, perfect to be call as a celebrity kid. But who am I to kid? I knew this boy. The way he moves seem so similar to his Mom but his face is absolutely from his Dad. His alternate ego is flaunting, right after he just bumped the little girl in front of him.

"Why would I even do that? I own this place!" He then shouted.

Woah, woah. Like mother like son, eh? And what? Who owns who?

I tap the deck counter first and bid my goodbye to the nursing attendant whom I was just talking to. She return me a smile and I left her right after that.

I inhale sharply, sliding both of my hands on my white robe's pocket, now staring at the little boy, grabbing the girl's doll. "You know that this doll is just so cheap for a girl as cheap as you! Buy another one that'll look you pretty and extravagant!" He shouted which made most of the people gasp.

I move my eyes around, scanning for a possible guardian whom I expected but the person is nowhere to be found.

Oh, Erin. This one is hella a pain in the ass like you.

I clear down my throat to shift his attention to where I am standing. He seems shock to see me but it automatically change with a smile plastered on his face.

"Tita Monica!" He shouted, now dropping the doll that he got from the poor girl. I purse my lips, tilting my head while eyeing the little boy thoroughly, obviously showing him that I am not happy on what he just did. "I am not even sorry about that." He murmured as he finds way to my arms.

So I did.

I groan. "You aren't a little boy anymore," I kidded. "You're big and heavy already!"

He pouted so I scram his hair that falls on his forehead, now kinda covering his eyes. "Say sorry to the little girl." I changed the subject.

He move a little while he's on my arms and slightly bent down so I move down also to follow his movement. I thought he'll offer his hand for a shake hand but the spoiled Ericson Moses pulled the little girl's hair, which made her cry, now a little louder.

Oh my god! "Moses!" I yell, putting him down to attend the other child.

"Hey, don't cry... shhh." I embrace her and tap her narrow back a little. She somewhat relaxes but the oh-so-mad Ericson Moses even stick a tongue to the girl.

"Moses, say you're sorry!" I commanded. Goodness, where is his guardian?!

"Why would I? It's her fault. She bumped me!"

Now, things are getting more complicated. The nurses and some patients are now looking at us, and even the attendant from earlier is already peeking from the station.

Holy Molly.

"What's going on, Doctor?" A nurse approached me while holding few records on her left arm.

I awkwardly smile not because of what's happening but because of the way she addressed me.

Doctor. I still have few more runs to finally have that title but I know I am almost there.

"Moses!"

Suddenly, a shout from a voice I once admired filled the hallway. There are so many murmurs from the people looking— uttering the same appreciation towards this man coming to where we are standing.

The spoiled brat ran towards his Tito so I automatically stand on my toes, pursing my lips again, staring at his nephew, who's now making a grin. He fetch Moses on his arms before finally looking at me. He seems flabbergasted to see me, so do I.

He move his glasses a little before finally clearing his throat. My stare is shifted at the woman on her early thirties, grabbing the girl's arm while consecutively apologizing to us. I just smile as they walk away and even the Nurse who helped me out is also making her way to obviously, her new batch of rounds to check some patients.

"Hi," I greeted, now feeling lighter than few years ago. He seems taken aback on how I approach him.

Why, Rowe? Do you expect me getting awkward after you dumped me years ago? I wanted to fire him but why would I? It's pointless already.

I point his nephew when I notice that he's not answering my greeting.

"Me?" Moses asked, also pointing himself. I roll my eyes. Erin, you've got a complete replica of you here.

"That kid just bullied another kid earlier." Moses furrowed his brows and look at Brian. He was about to defend himself but I cutted him off. "I will going to tell your Mom about this so she won't be going home to you." I kidded just to make fun of the child but he just raise his brows even higher, wanting to laugh.

What the hell?! I already foresaw his future. He obviously knows how to pester someone at this age! What more when he'll grow up?

"You're so funny, Tita Monica," he looked at his Tito and stifle a laugh. "She just did. Aren't you aware?"

What?!

I shifted my gaze to Brian but he's just shrugging his own shoulders. Just when I am about to ask him, a hand suddenly wrap over my waist, pecking a kiss on top of my head. "Hey."

I look up and smile to see the man I always look up since the day I found myself. He was and always will my saviour, who brought me out from darkness and now, he's completely giving me the light of day.

"Oh. No patients?" I asked with a smile.

He reply me with a shake on his head before he finally glance at those men watching us. "By the way," I started. "This is Brian Rowe. Remember Erin? He's her brother and that spoiled kid is Moses."

"Oh, Erin's son?" He asked, removing his hold from my waist to offer also Brian a hand shake. But the latter is just staring at Henderson's hand, making me furrow my own brows.

What's with him? That is so rude! He wasn't like that before.

As seconds pass, Henderson finally grab back his hand, feeling a light tension in between us. I clear my throat for watching them exchanging stares, and inviting Henderson for a lunch is my only escape. "Hey, lunch?"

He nodded his head and grab me by my waist. He seems adamant and I didn't even have the chance to bid my goodbye at Brian and Moses. Just when we are few meters away from them, Brian called me, making me feel cold from my toes to my finger tips.

"Are you already over me?"
