Beyond the pale

Prologue

The birds were chirping as the rebirth of the earth took place. Flowers were blooming and-well, this was what Aubree would have said if it was spring or if she was back in Miami. It was hot in Miami for sure, but Aubree preferred that to the freezing weather of Duluth, Minnesota.

Aubree Jones, an eighteen year old girl from the city of Miami was sprawled on the bed with her lips slightly opened and the sheets wrapped around her like she had been fighting world war III in her dreams.

The blinding rays of sunshine cascaded into her room in an attempt to fry her eye lids. Again, this was what Aubree would have described if she wasn't spending the vacation in the family house that was built by her dead maternal grandparents.

She turned, saliva sliding down her round cheek. The breeze blew her face from her open windows, making her nose stuffy like cotton balls were shoved into the nostrils of her button nose.

"Ugh, who left my window open?" She sat up, eyes still closed as she massaged her forehead.

"Aubree!" Her mother exclaimed from the hallway. "Get your lazy self down for breakfast!"

"Yes, mother." She scratched her red hair without making an attempt to peel her eyes open.

She laid back on the naked bed with the sheets still entangled on her body and muttered, "Just one minute."

"Aubree!" The deafening sound of her door being flung open by her mother who was screaming her name made Aubree jump up from her sleep.

"Don't come near me, I know karate." She held out her hands in front of her. "Oh, you scared me."

Aubree released herself from the prison of her sheets and focused her piercing gray eyes at her mother.

"Don't come near me, I know karate." Her mother mimicked her, clutching her stomach and laughing in blue striped pajamas.

"Haha, very funny mother." She almost rolled her eyes at her mother.

"Get dressed." Her mother ordered before leaving Aubree alone once again.

She sniffled, feeling a little stuffy in the nose as she proceeded to spread her bed. Her blanket was kicked to the floor by the awesome WWE champion, Aubie.

Her room mirrored the big purple shirt she usually slept in at night. She could feel some of her joints aching as a result of the freezing town.

The family was done with breakfast and went to their various routes. Aubree and Dylan were in the laundry room, laughing and chatting about random things.

"So I read this funny book last month," Aubree started, turning in some lavender before pushing the start button to the white washing machine. "I think the name is ask Amy green; boy trouble."

Dylan nodded his head enthusiastically, licking a strawberry lollipop and studying every move she made.

"She sent-sent them a mail saying a guy she went out on a date with told the whole school she kissed like a washing machine," Aubree said between laughs, a tear sliding down her cheek as she felt the pit of her stomach tighten itself.

"What?" Dylan's forest, green eyes danced in silent laughter. "That was mean... Must be high school drama and shit, but was she that bad?"

"I doubt, he just cooked up some stuff because she wanted to watch the movie instead. They went out on a date to see a movie and he wanted some kissy kissy." She wiggled her eye brows at her cousin who was seated in black shorts and grey plain shirt.

"What's the big deal in kissing?" He shrugged, pulling out the lollipop from his mouth.

"What do you mean by that, don't you like kissing?" Aubree asked, gluing her ass beside him.

"Well-" he hesitated, contemplating if he should tell her the truth or lie. "Actually, the question should be have you had your first kiss."

Aubree's eyes widened and her jaw slacked to her laps. "Shut up, you mean you've never kissed before?"

"Nope." He shrugged like it was the least of his problems.

Aubree was more than shocked because for a hot guy like Dylan, she always thought he had a lot of girl friends and fuck buddies.

"That's a lie." Aubree laughed, hoping he'd join her.

"I'm serious." His eyes were hard and he wasn't laughing with her. It rang a darn bell in her head–he was saying the truth.

Dylan Gray–Aubree's first forbidden crush. They had been close since they were kids and told each other everything so the fact he didn't say this to her got her a bit upset, but she chose to hide it.

"What is it like?" He broke the silence, staring into her eyes.

"Nice and-I can't explain. You'd just have to try it out to get your own perspective." She answered, unable to break the eye contact.

"When do you think I should try it out?" He drawled, licking his lollipop in a seductive manner.

He moved closer to her, leaving no space between the both of them in such a way that the sides of their bodies glued like a sandwich.

"Whenever you want." Aubree's throat became dry and she gulped as her heart picked up it's pace.

"How about now?" He threw his lollipop into the thrash can and the sides of his lips twitched in a dangerous smile.

"What do you mean by-"

She didn't get to finish her sentence because Dylan crashed his lips on hers. At first, her eyes widened then fluttered shut. She kissed back, tongue wrestling with everything in her. Not knowing that, that very day was going to be the worst mistake Aubree had ever made.

Not just a mistake, but a great taboo.
