- “Count, count, count!

- “Ben Clark, that guy who was at our table yesterday, introduced me to some people after you came up. I was asked to audition for an HBO miniseries. I thought it was a rhetorical invitation, just an offer to look nice. But they sent me an email, and it's pretty serious.

Drake felt inflated with emotion. He couldn't remember the last time his life had gone so well. Like the woman, he had the past as a heavy cross to be carried.

- "I'm proud of you" Blair squeezed her friend's hands warmly. For someone who lived life dragging chains, the opportunity to fly was liberating.

- "I know it is. And now let's do it right.” He looked up into her beautiful face, remembering how they'd been wrong countless times before they'd actually tried to get it right.

- “Of course we will. We are an incredible team. Now you're going to work hard and get rich and support me.” Blair stood up smiling, and her friend laughed out loud as he threw himself back on the bed.

As she walked away to finish getting ready, her cell phone started to ring. Blair wasn't expecting calls, but she felt the anxiety creeping closer as she read the unknown number flashing on the caller ID.

- "Blair Collins" she murmured with a soft voice when answering, ready for whatever it was.

The woman, despite her young age, had developed an enviable ability to overcome. He was always keeping expectations low.

- “Hello, Miss. Collins. I'm Spencer Davis, but you should know. I called to pass on some information. Is available?"

- "Yes" Blair replied .

Spencer hadn't been in touch for a few days. He said she wouldn't need to attend the department, just events. In parts, the redhead felt like a spy, as if she were infiltrated among those wealthy people, collecting and storing information.

- “By now, you must have met some member of the Banks family again”

- "Yes" she replied, hiding the way she found the family member.

- “Well, I like to take notes, even if they seem minimal. I ask you to do this, and report everything your eyes see.

- "Right"

- “I have news, Blair. We can't take risks on this part of the investigation, so I got you a job.

- "A job..." she repeated, unable to hide the confusion in her voice.

- "Yea. If someone investigates your life, I don't want them to know you're connected to the police. Starting next week, you will be providing services to Agent Inc.

Blair took a few seconds to process the information. Since leaving New York, his only goal was to work like an ordinary person, earn an average salary and live in a simple apartment. However, she found herself living in a million-dollar apartment, working as an undercover agent and being a source of material for the headlines. His expectation and his reality were opposite universes.

- "I understand" the redhead realized that she still needed to answer.

Drake sensed his friend's nervousness and stood up. He was anxious too, and looking at Blair's thoughtful face didn't help. His countenance was lost; so much time dealing with bad news made that woman not know good news.

- “You will work with Michele Brian, Benedict's widow. She can also be an important part of the investigation, but for now, she can just dedicate herself to work.

- "Right. So I'm officially fired?"

- “It will be as if you had never worked in a police station”

- "Understood"

- "Questions?"

Spencer wanted everything to be executed with excellence. After years without concrete answers, the inspector hoped to make his last chance profitable. Mistakes wouldn't be admitted, and he was counting on Blair.

- "No. Thanks for the new job”

- “Have it, Miss. Collins”

As soon as she hung up, she looked at her friend in bewilderment. Working at one of Nevada's most reputable agencies was a privilege, though not through traditional means. It took Blair a few seconds to process the gravity of the situation. Deep down, the woman wished she could tell her best friend the whole truth, but she knew she shouldn't.

- "Are you going to tell me the news?" Drake crossed his arms over his chest.

- “It was from Agent Inc. I've been asked for a job interview, and it looks like I'll be hired,” she said quietly, afraid that more information would leak out.

- “But you have a job!” the friend exclaimed, but with a satisfied smile on his face.

- “I was just an assistant. My boss let me go, but he tried to adjust me to a new job.

- "This is amazing. Let's make money together, baby"

That was the dream of both. They were used to financial difficulties, always opening one hole to close another. But at that moment, they were not in debt, nor were they facing difficulties. They were living a moment of luxury showered by Blair's father.

Blair shook her head to dispel the bad thoughts that always crossed her mind to remind her how pessimistic she could be. Blair knew she had the ability, and that she could handle Spencer's investigation. However, there was a voice in his head telling him that it would go wrong at some point.

She was afraid of the outcome of her recent attraction to Ethan, and she didn't know how she could investigate a man who disarmed her defenses.

- “I know you're afraid of all this, but think about it. We deserve opportunities,” Drake stated.
