A Coward Crush

Mike the troube maker

"Stop whining before I end your life!" Bright's best friend and house mate yelled, throwing a pillow at him. "Or at least, get out of my room!"

Bright just grabbed the pillow and hugged it close to him, not caring about how Mike was slowly becoming annoyed. Bright thought that he should be allowed to whine, his heart was breaking. Couldn't Mike saw that?

"Are you going to whine like this for the entire break?" Mike asked. Bright was sure that his friend was glaring at him but he had his back turned against him, so he couldn't see it. He just hugged the pillow tighter and tried to lie more comfortably on the hard floor.

"I'm not going to see him for a month! Do you know how horrible that will be?" Bright defended.

"All you do is stare at him longingly, you freak! He doesn't even know that you exist!"

Bright whimpered. Now that was just a plain cruel, Mike didn't have to go that far. His heart was hurting more than enough already. Not being able to see the cute face everyday would be a disappointment.

"You know I can introduce the two of you right? Win is my cousin after all."

Mike always said this, but Bright knew he couldn't. He was sure that he was going to make a fool of himself in front of Win and then the man would never want to see him again. He couldn't risk it. It was better to look at the man from a distance instead, he was okay with that but right now, the university is on break and he was sure this would kill him.

"You're refusing again? Seriously, when are you going to grow tired of just watching him from a far?"

"Never!"

"Really?" Mike asked, amusement coloring in his voice. "What will happen if he starts dating someone?"

Mike was really vicious today, was he trying to kill Bright? "It will never happen." Not that Bright believed this himself, but he was allowed to have a little hope right?

"Win is extremely picky, but one day he will find someone you know? He already has a lot of admirers." Mike said truthfully. "Why can't you at least try? Befriend with him? Ask him out for a date?"

"No. I can't. I won't be able to live with the rejection."

"So you're just going to stare at the photo album you have of him? Which is creepy as fuck."

This time Bright rolled around so that he was facing Mike who was seated on the bed. He glared at his friend. "It's not my fault that he looks so cute and innocent that I have to take pictures of him."

"Creepy."

Bright just snorted and turned away again. He didn't want to see Mike's stupid face, he wanted Win. He sighed, one day, that man would be the death of him. He had fallen in love with him at a first sight almost a year ago when he saw him somewhere around the campus. Bright had immediately been drawn to his bunny like looks, his pure and blissful smile. Never he had his heart beaten as quickly as before, he had wanted to know this one amazing creature. He had never loved his friend, Mike so much before as he did when he learnt that Mike and Win are cousins, so he had quickly gathered information from his best friend that Win was a year younger and had just started there.

And as time went by, Bright learnt more about Win by observing - or stalking as Mike called it - the amazing creature. He learnt that Win was bisexual and was not afraid to fight for his rights or bite back if anyone dare to discriminate. He was strong and Bright admired that. He, himself did not dare to tell anyone about his sexual orientation.

When Mike knew about Bright's crush, he had constantly tried to introduce the both of them but Bright was always run away before Win could meet him. He was a coward. He whimpered slightly, he shouldn't think about Win and a relationship that would never happen, it was breaking his heart. He curled his body, trying not to think how long it would be before the break was over.

"So what?" Mike asked, sounding even more annoyed. "You're not willing to do anything to actually get to know him? If everyone could see how their 'cool prince' is like right now. You're pathetic, I can't believe that people actually think that you're cool."

Bright didn't even bother to answer, he didn't even want to listen to his best friend anymore. Couldn't he respect that Bright was a coward? That he was satisfied with just admiring his crush from afar? Mike should learn to keep quiet and just let him be. Okay, Bright was the one who invaded Mike's room and started whining but he could try to be an understanding friend and just listen.

"So you're going to lie on the floor, eat when necessary, whine, and sleep for the entire break?" Mike asked.

"That sounds nice." Bright whispered.

"Seriously, you might as well turn into a koala, you're just like one."

If Bright had been turned towards Mike, he would have seen the mischievous and evil smile of his best friend was doing.

Bright never saw it coming.

The break had started a week ago and Win had done nothing but laze around on the sofa. He hadn't had the energy to do anything else, so he had just stayed in his apartment and he had planned not to do anything today either, but his plans got ruined when the doorbell rang. He had a bad feeling as he opened the door and the bad feeling intensified when he saw it was his cousin which is troublesome is his middle name.

"Win! Hey!" Mike greeted cheerfully.

"Hi Mike." Win stared suspiciously at him, especially the huge backpack in his arms.

*Does my eyes deceiving me or did it just move? Oh god, this just smells trouble.*

"Win, you need to do me a favor."

*Oh god, no.*

He didn't even get a chance to say anything before Mike pushed the backpack into his arms.

"Okay, so everyday, there will be fresh leaves in a box outside of your door, so you don't have to think about that. You need to take care of him for me, okay? I can't do it myself, so you have to do it."

Win just stood there with his mouth wide opened, not understanding what was going on. *Take care of him?*

Mike grinned widely. "Thank you for doing this!"

"I haven't agree to this, whatever this is!" Win protested.

Mike just ignored him and turned around, heading his way out to the door. "Oh and his name is Bright!" And then he went to the corner, disappearing from Win's sight.

Win snapped out of his shock and quickly opened the backpack, needing to find out what was in it. He froze when a pair of black eyes stared back up at him from inside the backpack. The owner of the eyes was having fuzzy ears, grey fur and a big black nose. The two just blinked at each other for a while. Then Win straightened his back and glared at the door, feeling intense anger take control over his body.

"Mike Chinnarat!"
