🔯Chapter Four🔯

“Oh, mother!”

“Our own magic wands?! Gracious..” The two stood up from their chairs and reached for their very own magic wands which high royals only give when witches and wizards reached eighteen. Rosy was only eight months younger from her twin siblings, Chelo and Mia.

“Careful and be patient, they’re stubborn at first.” Lili told her daughters, well, except Rosy who was about to turn her back and do the dishes at the kitchen sink. Rosy already anticipated and she always found a reason to understand everything.

“Take your wand here, Rosy.” Lili exclaimed with cold tone.

“She got one!” Mia and Chelo both blurted in horror as their eyes were always popping out. Their aversion against Rosy could kill somebody, like them.

“I got one, mother?” Rosy just couldn’t believe it. She got one—her own magic wand! She turned and approached Lili—her mother handed her wand to her.

“You just turned eighteen, the high royals did not forget. But I wish they did.” Lili, the disgusted mother of Rosy, prayed silently that the high royals had forgotten about her youngest. Actually, she told them she had only two daughters—yet the record spilled everything.

It simply means, having a magic wand meant to be entitled for High recruits and one should showcase their talents in the coming third full moon, witnessed by the High Royals of Witch and Wizards. Lili told these to her daughters as Rosy felt the thrilled already escalating inside her.

“And this means that, the high royals are seeking for the best witch and wizard to serve the Kingdom of Sparsha, the King and Queen’s family.” The best witch? Rosy thought as Lili enlightened her daughters. Rosy then eyed at her own magic wand—the last magic wand she held was back at the academy.

The wand loathed her.

And so she could not do anything good in magic and spell class—Rosy can’t control the wand and it seemed all got mad at her. She always ended being ridiculed and they always and always replied by Rosy’s sweetest smile of forgiveness and understanding—they had reasons to laughed for, anyway.

“You know, Widow,” Rosy started, looking at this bright moon, up in the night sky. The dim light coming from it shed her face and brought this amazing hope within Rosy.

She glanced at her little friend. “I never been so hopeful. I want to prove my worth, to mother, sisters, and to my late father.” She truly believed that she was not born just to disappoint her family. She just discovered something precious and magical earlier in the woods. That was something she needed to figure out and that gave her hope.

“You know, you’re always being hopeful, Rosy. Always been.” Widow said. Since Rosy was young, a little tot, Widow had witnessed how grateful Rosy in life. Kind and forgiving. Having little time with her late father, Oscar did raise her youngest full of wisdom and kindness to others even without considering oneself.

“Will you help me practicing, Widow? I wanna be a great white witch someday!” Rosy elatedly exclaimed. Her young and pure heart was indeed full of faith and courage. She took her wand and gently touched it. But she knew, how fragile their relationship could be—well, all wands simply disliked Rosy back at the academy.

“Haven’t you forgotten how wands were chaotic and choosy over you?” Sourly but not too bitter, Widow reminded her. Her friend crawled to the wand. A real friend did want to give false hope—that was what Widow was trying to imply in the deepest of her words.

“Perhaps, I can train myself using my very own wand, now?” She said and smiled.”Tomorrow, I’ll go to the woods and train myself, master everything. Will you go with me?” Rosy was very determined to start her day early tomorrow, well, after house chores had smoothly done.

“Hmm, well, maybe next time, dear. I’m sorry, I’ll be busy stitching, as you noticed how those naughty crows deformed my web.” Widow politely declined but she wished to at least, give moral support to her dearest friend. She just couldn’t. Her web was devastated again by those flapping wings.

Rosy stared at Widow’s web and yes, it was gone. “Oh, I’m sorry to hear that. Anything I could help, Widow?” She asked but Widow immediately clung her head and crawled up and get busy and start stitching. That would take her a long long night.

“No, it’s fine, dear.. Just take care yourself and wish you well, Rosy.” Rosy turned to her bed. She also needed good strength for tomorrow’s first day of self-training. First, do all the chores and then, perfect the training!

Yet she highly doubt that..

The next morning, when Lili and her sisters were eating their meals that Rosy prepared, as always. She slowly approached her mother to ask permission.

“Mother, I’ll go to the woods for a moment.” Rosy was all set and ready to do her self-training together with her wand. Well, she was praying in heavens last night and was hoping to be heard.

A good relationship with her wand.

Chelo and Mia chuckled with food in their mouths.

“What, Rosy? To train yourself and what’s next—disappoint yourself again? Pathetic!” Chelo said. They had seen Rosy’s worst in the Academy. What’s worst to come? They had their best mentors in Magic and Spell class but still, Rosy couldn’t get that simple balance and control thing.

“Let her train and transform hilarious things to its most dreadful outcome. Just like how she was born being one!” Mia seconded with much more insult. They both laughed and thought how dreadful Rosy’s training might be. Lili shushed everyone and continued eating—she didn’t care at all of Rosy.

Rosy smiled and bid farewell to her sisters. “I’ll take that as your..moral support—thanks sisters!” She yelled before going out the door and ran towards the woods holding her very own wand in her hand. It was misty and cold, she covered her head with her red hood.

She had had a favorite resting place in the woods, she stood up on this rock and all animals eyed at her.

“Alright, listen all you. I wished to help cure everyone who has illness,” She announced. As every animal raised towards her corner, climbing the stone and tried to reach her. All she heard was yelling thoughts from her these ecstatic animals who wished to be cured.

“One by one, in queue please!” Rosy laughed as she commanded all the animals. She carefully placed the squirrel on the ground who quickly jumped off her shoulder.

A frog hopped on the first queue. With her evident sad eyes, the frog pointed her throat.

Rosy, I wanted to bring back my beautiful voice.

“Alright, you pretty frog.. Why, you wished to have back your beautiful singing voice?” Rosy thought while leaning forward and then slowly got up to relax herself.

Yes, Rosy. After I ate that mosquito, it made my voice horrible! Can you help me? The frog begged to Rosy. Then the frog croaked and everyone covered their ears for she indeed had a terrible croaking sound.

“I believe, I can! Steady, little friend.” Rosy raised her wand to cast a spell. On the other hand she was holding her spell book. She borrowed it from the library in the Academy. Every night before sleep, she aimed to master five spells and memorized all the lines.

“Masha esta kwera si, porta shan ti di ti!” Rosy finally casted the spell to bring back the frog’s beautiful voice. Mrs. Croak, the frog deep breathily and started to sing.

Rosy, what’s wrong? I lost my voice! Oh my! Oh my!

“Oh? What, you lost your voice! Oh jeez.. I’m so sorry, Mrs. Croak, I’ll fix it soon..” Mrs. Croak, frog hopped and cried without a sound and Rosy felt so bad about it. Yet she wanted to try another one. “N-Next please, I’ll figure that out later, oh, please don’t cry..” Tried to give her sincere solace to Mrs. Croak but the frog continued sobbing and submerged in this little pond nearby.

Rosy, I don’t have illness like Mrs. Croak but I am starving. Mr. Dove brought her a cherry and put it on the ground.

“You want to eat more cherry fruits, Mr. Dove?” Rosy knew exactly the spell for that and didn’t need to open her spell book and looked for it. She raised her wand as every animal around closed their eyes—getting ready of another nasty aftermath.

“E xa maraki sha bwen ti di ti!” Rosy casted with much confidence this time.

“W-What!” The cherry fruit rotten slowly, dried, and turned ashes! “Oh no, no. I must mispronounced something in the spell..” Rosy muttered as everyone walked away from her. “Wand, please cooperate, will you?” She asked while kept on shaking the wand in the air until it flew by itself.

“Hey, wand! Where are you going!” It flew in the air like crazy and stumbled across the tree. The wand fell on the ground, where exactly a deer was standing. The very same deer that she helped days ago.

“Hey, there, fella. How’s your feet? Do you remember me? I tend your wounds but I really don’t know how I did that..” She muttered and yet couldn’t hear its thoughts.

That day, Rosy decided to go home and was thinking of asking her sisters to train her. Why not? For Rosy that was the best option she had!
