Chapter Two

Branches and leaves getting stepped on and several howls echoed throughout the dark forest. He ran and ran as fast as he could while his paws were badly bruised but could still carry him. If only he could get out of this territory then he could just head into the mortal's world. Sadly, it was very far for an ordinary werewolf like him and he didn't know the directions. Luck wasn't on his side as his legs decided to fail him, feeling his body colliding with the dirt and darkness swallowed him whole.

He woke, blinking rapidly as his eyes adjusted to the bright light on the ceiling above him but even with this, the majority of the room was still pitch black. The soft grass beneath his feet earlier was replaced by hard concrete and his hands were tied behind the chair he sat on. The room was silent except for his heavy breathing. Being captured wasn't a part of his plan at all so he had to be careful if he doesn't want to die just yet. His whole body ached and he could feel the pounding of his heart. He breathed heavily as he cleared his throat, desperately trying to find his voice from his dry throat.

Water

He needed water

Heavy footsteps were heard and as it came closer, the poor werewolf's whole form started to shake in fear. The door sprung open, making him widen his eyes. He couldn't see who it was but the whole room suddenly lit up, hurting his eyes. His heartbeat was even faster than before and fear was evident in him. There were four men who stood in front of him but only three of them he can recognize from the rumors he usually heard from where he came from.

"What do you want? Why did you step in to our territory?"

One of the twins asked. He had light blonde hair that brought out the blue color of his eyes. His body was incredibly built and he looked like a very strong warrior, a Beta.

"Speak up if you don't want to have your head on a golden platter."

Another one who looks similar to the first man asked, but this one had slightly darker blonde hair but with the same blue eyes. It is very hard to identify who is who but the rogue knew the names of these two. They were the famous Ice and Ace Stone. Rumor has it that they had equal strength and that's why the Alpha didn't choose and ended up appointing the brothers as the Redmoon pack's Betas.

"I-I, I just wanted to run away from my old A-alpha."

The poor boy stuttered as precious little tears dared to come out of his scared blue eyes. The men in front of him looked so intimidating that he almost pissed his pants. Then, a dark voice chuckled, making their full attention shift to where it came from. Zaccheus Maddox, the most feared Alpha of the region stood by the door in all his glory. He came closer and knelt in front of the poor rogue who dared to step in his territory without permission.

"What's your name, rogue?"

Zaccheus raised his eyebrow, looking as intimidating as ever. The term 'rogue' was enough proof that they weren't pleased by the boy's arrival. The boy was afraid to say his name, terrified that they might send him back, but he didn't want to die just yet so he had no choice.

"M-my name is Blue. I promise, I mean no harm to you. I just want to escape from my previous pack."

Zaccheus stared at Blue for a moment then stood up and gestured for the twins and the other warrior wolf to listen to his command. Zaccheus has always been a good leader to them and they never failed to give him the respect he deserved. He always made sure to do things fairly and give everyone a chance to change for the better. Having a rogue enter their pack wasn't anything new and most of the reasons they got were because of the rumors that the Redmoon pack is the perfect home for any werewolf. Aside from having their own farms and market, they also had their own education system so the children wouldn't have to mingle with the humans to avoid getting exposed because apparently, humans were crazy creatures that are hungry for something new. If they discover the existence of werewolves, fairies, vampires and more creatures, no one would know what harm is to come to them. They had to keep their distance in order to stay safe.

"Ace and Ice, go check up if the guards that are on duty aren't harmed at any cost. You, Elijah, talk to Blue. Get everything out from him. Until then, the decision is still on me."

They all nodded and got out as Elijah, the warrior wolf, closed the door to prevent anyone from interrupting his investigation about the rogue wolf. The twins immediately shifted into their large wolf forms, both a pure white color. Ice had black flame-shaped fur around his right eye while Ace had one on the left. They ran with their large paws as some villagers from their pack moved out of the way for the two mighty betas to pass by.

Meanwhile, Zaccheus went to the main pack house's security room where the footage of CCTV's can be seen. You see, they may be werewolves but that doesn't mean they don't have those gadgets that humans use. Besides, it helped them a lot since many packs want to bring his pack down ever since it grew so well. Zaccheus was a very powerful man and those who knew his true personality respect him and trusted him to lead the pack as the Alpha .

He watched as Elijah sat in front of the small rogue wolf, Blue, but this time, the rogue wasn't tied up on the chair but rather sitting more comfortably than before but the trembling was still there.

He must've trusted Elijah by now

Zaccheus thought as he watched and listened to the two. Elijah always knew his way with words, it made people easily trust him and that's why Zaccheus appointed him as the pack's investigator.

"Do you want to tell me why you wanted to run away?"

"A-are you going to send me back if I told you the truth?"

Blue whispered softly as he played with his fingers. The gesture was cute for Elijah and he seemed to admire it but doesn't forget the mission that his Alpha entrusted. It was too soon to get attached to someone.

"No, I guess. It depends on your reason."

"Fine"

Blue sighed deeply and proceeded to tell his story.

I am Blue from the Green Leaf pack. I don't have a last name since my mom was raped and thought of me as a mistake. I'm surprised she still kept me. My Alpha, Gideon Price was my best friend since I was 10. We always play back then and he always had my back since I was bullied for being a weakling. But then-"

Blue didn't even notice as he started to cry, putting his hands on his face, wiping the tears away as the painful memory came crawling back to haunt him.

"-when I confessed to him, he-he... he pushed me away. He ignored me for years until I decided to just leave. Who knows? He might be celebrating now."

Elijah furrowed his eyebrows. How could an Alpha be so rude? Then he reminded himself that not all Alphas are like Zaccheus. Maybe if Gideon didn't do the rejection in a rude manner, then maybe Blue would still be okay. Even though you get rejected by the one you love the most, you can't really blame them from not loving you back.

"Wait, what about his mate? What about your mate?"

"His mate was dead already and as for mine, well I haven't met him or her yet."

Blue looked down to his hands, biting his lip. Elijah looked directly into the camera at the back of the room and stared at it, knowing his Alpha was watching. And as if they understood each other, Elijah carried a crying Blue. They got out of the room and placed Blue in a guest room that was still inside the pack house and locked the door just in case Blue was lying all the time. You can't really be so sure about rogues. They can be spies for all you know.

Zaccheus sighed, getting a bit frustrated at what he just heard. He himself had never met his mate yet, so he understood how Blue felt, and it was very hard for him not to blame himself for not looking hard enough.

He just prayed every day for the moon goddess to help him find the one destined for him. It was crazy to think you will be someone's soul mate even before you are born and yet it somehow worked for centuries now. He mind-linked the two betas about everything that Blue said and you could say that the twins felt the same aching feeling. They have found their mate back then but because of a stupid decision, they lost everything. No, their mate was not dead, at least that's what they knew since werewolves could feel when their mate is dead. They tried searching after a few years. Sadly, they haven't succeeded but that doesn't mean they'll give up.

They just need to look deeper and hope for the best.
