CHAPTER 7

GIANA'S POV

"Miss Williams...miss Williams."

I groan at the voice. Wait, Theo doesn't call me 'Miss Williams'. And that is not Theo's voice. That's the unmistakable voice of Mr Vanderbilt. Shoot! I wake up instantly and realize I'm in Riley's room and on her bed. Shit, I fell asleep in here. I was supposed to sleep in the guest room. I sheepishly looked at Mr. Vanderbilt and scratched my forehead.

He was spotting a deep frown. "Why were you sleeping on my daughter's bed and why are you dressed like that?" He said, his eyes going from my head to toe and back disapprovingly.

I looked down at my jumpsuit which was exposing my thighs and boobs. I felt so guilt-ridden cause Theo warned me about this. Before i could speak up, i felt the sheets move and Riley was awake. Great. Just great. Now i have to deal with her too.

I watched as she rubbed her eyes, then they settled on me. Pure disgust was etched on her face. "What are you doing on my bed, Giana Williams?"

"And good morning to you too, Riley." I said sarcastically, ignoring her question. I turned to her father who was still frowning. Now i have to deal with two angry white people. Not just any 'people'; the Vanderbilts. "Okay guys, before you eat me raw with your eyes, or fry my black ass, I have an explanation for why I'm here." I said to them and stood up, adjusting my jumpsuit so that it could reach my mid thighs.

Armani ignored me, walked over to Riley and kissed her forehead. "Good morning, Princess. Sleep well?"

She nodded at her father. "Good morning, daddy. I missed you last night."

"And i missed you too, princess. You stay right here while i talk to miss Williams, okay? I'll be right back and we can make you some breakfast." He told her in that sexy accent, then turned to me, still frowning. I gulped. "Can i talk with you in my office? Like right now?" He asked and without waiting for my response, walked out of his daughter's room. I gulped and followed him to his office. I shut the glass door behind me and watched him sit. I didn't sit too, just stood and crossed my arms, daring him to yell at me. I did them a favour by ditching my boyfriend and sleeping at their mansion. Simply because i fell asleep in Riley's room doesn't make me bad. "Good morning miss Williams."

Oh, 'miss Williams'? I told him to call me 'Giana' but clearly the Vanderbilts have special ways of calling me. "Good morning sir. Look, Alvin called me over to watch over your kid. I didn't just opt and..."

"I know, miss Williams." He cut me off.

I crossed my arms. "Then why are you mad at me, cause clearly, you are."

He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. "I'm not mad at you, miss Williams. I just didn't expect you to sleep in Riley's room. There are five other spare rooms in this house, you could sleep in any."

"Well it wasn't my intention to sleep in there. I was damn tired last night. Sorry anyways." I apologized nonchalantly.

He sighed. "Just don't do it again. I thought you were someone else."

"There won't be an 'again', mister. I'm not your daughter's babysitter. Last night was an exception." I told him. "I'll be leaving now." I turned to leave but he stopped me.

He sighed. "Miss Williams, thank you for your help. I appreciate it" He told me formerly and i just nodded and walked out. The nerve of him to think i was someone else.

*****

"Wait, he said he thought you were someone else?" Trisha asked while we ate our lunch. Just as i promised Theo, we made love this morning before he went to work. I called in sick at work because i was way too exhausted and not in the mood to see Carter anyway. So i called Trisha over and filled her in with the latest.

"I wasn't speaking with water in my mouth, right?" I asked her as i played with my pasta. I didn't even have the appetite.

She seemed to think for a while. "Maybe he was just tired and thought you were an intruder, or better still, maybe he saw you as his late wife. It happens. You never know." She said with a shrug.

That caught my attention. His wife was white, so why did he think i was her. Well I'm not even sure he saw me as his late wife, she was white and I am black. Big and very visible difference. In fact, I'm not sure who that 'someone' was.

"By the way, you said he was disappointed with your outfit. That's insane. Which guy would see you dressed like that and not be turned on?" Trisha asked as she sipped her orange juice. Let me tell you, i always stock my fridge with orange juice purposely for this girl.

Going back to her question. I shrugged. "Apparently, Armani doesn't. He's like a stick. I went through his page and didn't even see a picture of him with any girl. All what he cares about is his daughter and his work. If Riley wasn't there as proof, I'll have thought he's gay." I pointed out.

Trisha burst into a fit of laughter. "You're crazy. He's so damn fine to be gay. If he is, I'm changing him. I'm way too in-love with him to let him fall for guys" We both burst out laughing. "And did i just hear you say you looked him up? You whore. Why were you checking out my man and to think there's Theo. I'm telling on you, bitch."

I chuckled tiredly. "You wouldn't dare. I just looked him up out of curiosity, nothing much."

Trisha held her chin and pretended to think. "Unless you have a crush on him."

I choked on my water. "Hell no. I'm way to in-love with Theo to have a crush on another guy." I told her proudly.

She chuckled. "Good, cause he's all mine and i don't intend to share."

"You wish. The guy doesn't even know you, crazy girl." I said and yawned again.

"Why do you keep yawning? Didn't you sleep last night? Or did Theo give you some dick breakfast before leaving?" She asked, wiggling her brows playfully and i just smirked. Her mouth formed an 'O'. "You pig, i knew it. With the way you two are going at it, i may become an aunt pretty soon. Which reminds me, why hasn't Theo proposed? You two should have been married by now. You've been dating for quite a long time now."

I sighed sadly. That's exactly what's going through my mind. "Honestly Trisha, I don't know why. He could at least put a ring on the finger. But no, he hasn't. I don't know what's stopping him. And i can't ask him. It will seem too desperate."

"Well girl you better man up and ask him. Or i will." She told me in a flat tone.

My phone started ringing and it was mama calling. I groaned.

Trisha chuckled. "Your mama?"

I nodded. "I'm not even going to answer this. I'm not ready to talk to her."

She chuckled. "You're lucky you still have a mom."

"But she worries too much." I whined. "I don't even know why she's calling but its for something little. Like i said, she worries too much."

"Because she loves you. Most people still wish they had mothers who will call. Take that Riley kid for example. She probably wishes she still had a mom." She pointed out.

That pricked my conscience and a picture of a sleeping Riley flashed through my mind. Maybe she's so cold towards people because she has no mother figure. I can feel it, she's a good kid, just very empty inside. I actually hope her father gets a wife so she can feel the love of a mother. Its so hard for a kid to grow up without a mother's love. Poor Riley. With that thought in mind and heart, i answered my my phone. "Hey ma."
