CHAPTER 5

GIANA'S POV

Throughout the week, i was so busy with work that i barely even had time for myself. Carter, my annoying boss was on my neck. His friend was starting up a cafe and i was given the job to design it. Sometimes, i don't even get the old man. He hates me, yet whenever he has an important client, he sends the person to me instead of my other co-workers. I mean i have no problem with that. More clients equals more cash. I just wish Carter was more polite, then I'll have no problem with anything at all. I looked at the wall clock and saw i still had two more hours. I groan in frustration. Its a Friday and Trisha and I have plans. We're going clubbing tonight. Too bad Alvin can't make it. And sadly, my Theo can't make it either. Its just going to be Trisha and I. I divert all my attention to my work so that I won't notice how slow time seems to be passing. I look across my desks and see my other co-workers looking so tired and bored. Good. At least I'm not the only one who desperately wants to leave this place. We all stuck in here, bitches!

Lucks on my side, by the time i look at the clock again, its six, time to go back home, more like to Trisha's place. I pack all my stuff and walk out of the building. I can't wait for Tuesday when I'll be getting my new car. All thanks to the Vanderbilts. I went to the car dealer shop three days ago and decided to go with a red mini cooper. I can't wait to start driving my new baby. For now, I'm stuck with uber. I called the driver and gave him Trisha's address. We were going to get dressed and do our make up there. During the 15 minutes drive, I kept checking the new set up for Riley's room. After all, I'll be going there tomorrow. Why did the days go so fast? I can't believe tomorrow is Saturday already. I internally groan at the thought of being with the racist kid. She better behave tomorrow or else. When the driver pulled up at Trisha's apartment, i paid him and walked out.

I rushed into Trisha's apartment since i have a key. I shook my head as i saw her walking around in just a G-string and bra, trying to straighten her curly hair. "Girl, learn how to put on clothes, what if i was coming in with someone?"

She laughed and shrugged. "I don't care. Its nothing the person hasn't seen before. Just come help me out, will you? My hair is so stubborn today and i need it straight cause of my outfit."

I walked over to her and took the machine, helping her with her hair. "You still wearing that black leather pants?"

"Of course. I bought it purposely for tonight. It makes my booty look even bigger. I need to get laid, baby."

I purposely burnt her shoulder with the machine and smirked as she winced in pain. "Be careful Gi."

"No, you should be careful. You can't just go about doing one night stands, girl. Find a man and settle down."

She turned to me and sighed sadly. "But I'm not as lucky as you, Gi. You got Theo and you two are so good together. I got no one."

I pinched her nose. "There's Alvin and i know you like him."

She scoffed and turned so i could continue with her hair. "Hell no. Alvin is so annoying. But you can hook me up with your sexy British boss."

I laughed at her silliness. "You whore. You haven't even seen this guy and you..."

"And who said i haven't seen him? That guy is so popular. I looked him up. DAMN. He's so fine. Please hook us up. I wanna jump his bones so bad."

I shook my head. "Its official, you've lost your mind. Just sit quiet so we get ready and leave. I really need some booze in my system."

******

I woke up with a pounding headache and groaned in pain. I really shouldn't drink on Friday nights since I now have work on Saturday. My head was spinning. All that alcohol and dancing was killing me now. I grudgingly wake up and try to be quiet so i do not wake Trisha. I go about with my morning duty and wear the extra dress i always leave here. I write a note and stick it to the fridge before i call my uber driver and wait for a while till he arrives then we leave for Brentwood.

When we arrive, I walked to the door and ring the doorbell. I really hope Riley doesn't answer it today. "VANDERBILT MANSION. WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT DO YOU WANT?" I jump in fright at the voice before i realize its the intercom. Great! With every passing day, there's an improvement with the house. I clear my throat. "Giana Williams, the interior designer." I reply.

A white lady who looks like she is in her late twenties opens the door after a few seconds. "Good morning Miss Williams. Mr. Vanderbilt said you will be dropping by today. Please come in." She said politely and I walked in. "I'm Ellen, Riley's nanny." She introduced herself with a warm smile.

"Giana. And its nice to meet you, Ellen. Where are the Vanderbilts?" I ask her.

"Mr. Vanderbilt went to his office and Ma'am Riley is in her room. She doesn't want to be disturbed." Ellen explained.

I choked on my saliva. "Wait, did you just call Riley 'ma'am'?"

Ellen shrugged. "That's how she wishes to be addressed."

I shook my head in disbelief. Seriously, Riley needs help. "I'll just go up to her room, Ellen. I have to work in there." Ellen nodded and i walked up to Riley's room. I knocked and heard a faint 'go away' but opened the door anyway.

Riley looked away from the television and looked at me, then rolled her eyes. "You again."

I let myself in and sat on the couch. "The right thing to say is 'good morning', not 'you again'."

She sighed. "Why are you here, Giana Williams?" She asked in a bored tone.

The alcohol that is still in my system would make me kick her butt if i do not control it. I take in a deep breath. "To spend quality time with you, baby Riley." I said with heavy sarcasm dripping off my voice.

She scoffed. "As if."

To be honest, i think there's an eighty years old woman in this seven years old body. "I came to set up your room just like you requested. So co-operate so we get this done and i go."

She sighed and walked over to me. Good. I showed her how i intend to set up her room and she accepted without protesting. Wow, Riley agreeing to something without a fight. Unbelievable. She sat on the couch while i went about moving things up and down. I didn't expect her to help me but she could at least offer! Like Riley would ever agree to work.

"Wait, why are you so black, Giana Williams?"

I rolled my eyes. "Just Giana. Giana! Not Giana Williams. And what is your problem with my colour?" On a second thought, I don't even want to hear her answer. "Don't even answer that. Just keep quiet so i can concentrate on what brought me here."

She was about to say something when my phone rang. It was Trisha. I excused myself and walked to the balcony. "Hey girl, wassup?"

"Shoot! I'm sorry for calling you at work, Gi. But i think we switched ID cards last night and my boss called me for an important meeting this morning. I can't get into the building without my card. Just send me the address and i can come give you your ID and take mine." Trisha explained frantically.

"Calm down girl. I'll just send you the address. See you in a bit." I told her, hung up and sent her the address. When i walked back in, Riley was sitting on her bed, going through the Netflix movies on her TV screen.

She didn't look at me, but she spoke up. "You know, Giana Williams, daddy doesn't pay you to answer calls."

"Excuse me?" I asked with raised brows.

"You heard me Giana Williams. You know what, just carry on with your work and leave."

I took in a deep breath and carried on with my work. I don't even know what prompted me to speak up once I was done with everything. "You know Riley, since I'll be working here constantly, we have to be civil with each other. Maybe we can be friends cause I know you have no friend here in America."

I looked at her to see her reaction. She gagged. "Hell no. I'll never be friends with you. Eww... I hate you."

OUCH! That was deep. Why did i even propose friendship to such a person? "Well i don't like you that much either so i take back my friend request."

"The better for us all, Giana Williams." She said and and diverted her attention back to the screen. I received a message from Trisha saying she was outside. Good thing I'm done here, I'll just go with Trisha. "I'll be going now."

She sighed in relief. "Finally."

I rolled my eyes. "I can't wait to see you next week." I told her sarcastically and walked out of her room.

I told Ellen that i was done and would be going back, then walked out of the house. I spotted Trisha's Tesla and walked over to it.

"Damn it girl, you work in that mansion. Its so beautiful and chic. My man is so classy and has expensive taste, look at his house. I can't wait for you to matchmake us so i move in there." She screamed in excitement with wide eyes.

I rolled mine. "Its nothing special, trust me. And that kid is so annoying. I really wonder why she is so cold towards everyone. Especially to me since I'm black. She is still so young to be so cold."

Trisha shrugged. "Maybe something happened in the past. I know you Gi, you're always so understanding. And you've really complained about this kid. She must be something else."

"Trust me, she is. Let's just get out of here."
