Homeless and alone. Natasha Palmer searches for her brother, but what she finds is hopeless fear. Taking an abandoned baby into her embrace, Natasha strives to survive on the cold streets with very little to see her through.

Douglas was known by those who live on the streets as Uncle Herman. He helps where he can and dreams of a different kind of life for all of them. What he finds is a red-haired angel playing house with another woman's baby.

With a dream of a future that involves hard work, sweat, and tears, he leads a group of homeless people to an abandoned ghost town his brother loved as a child.
