Perfect Harmony

"Of course, you will! I just pulled this out from the refrigerator, so I won't have to go downstairs when you reached a hundred thousand subscribers."

My sister and her lazy attitude. Psh.

I focused my eyes on the screen, waiting for that six digits I've been waiting for almost a year now.

"When you reach a hundred thousand subscribers, time will pass, and you won't even notice that you're on your way reaching for a million-"

I threw the pillow at him. 

I just started, okay? I can't be famous that fast!

I started filming myself doing covers and singing some of my unfinished original songs without titles a year ago. I never imagined people would love my voice and the way I sing. I knew singing and playing my guitar makes me happy, and I just wanted the world to see it, but here I am, gaining all of their support and receiving love. This moment is much more than what I expected.

"It's already 99,990!" Sara screamed.

I saw Rueben immediately pulled his phone from his pocket and filmed me. I was teary-eyed as it increases slowly. Sara went near me, holding the cake, excited for the numbers to turn to one and five zeroes.

"99,997!"

I grabbed the pillow from Rueben and covered my face because I can feel the heat around my eyes.

"99,998!"

The excitement prepared me to scream when suddenly Abigail rushed inside. Her face is full of sweat and mixed with tears.

"Oh, hey! You're here-"

With disheveled hair, she grabbed the remote from me and switched it to the news.

"What are you doing? Jael's about to reach a hundred thousand subscribers!" Disappointed with what she's done, Sara put down the cake.

Abigail ignored her. She increased the volume, and I froze when I saw the tragedy on the news. There was a car accident near here. The front part of the car is completely wrecked.

"Who are the passengers?" Rueben went near the television.

"Whoever they are, they might be dead! Look at that-"

"Sara!"

We were all startled because of Abigail's random expression.

"H-hey… why? What did I do?"

The reporters gave details about the passengers. Rueben grabbed the remote and put it in the highest volume.

"Live from the scene. A passerby reported a car accident that happened today. The police confirmed the identity of the passengers. According to the tip we received, Arthur and Harriett Valmonte, the married couple inside this car, asked the passerby for some direction. An hour after that, he saw their car went back and suddenly heard a loud crash. He ran to the scene and found them in this state. The police suspect another vehicle was involved and is currently busy finding clear evidence. Meanwhile, the couple is rushed to the nearest hospital."

I fell to the ground because I cannot feel my legs. Sara was utterly shocked, and Abigail is already crying. Rueben left the room quickly.

I have never tasted something this bitter before.
