Chapter 34

Olivia was running in the middle of the road, trying to catch someone. She was running as fast as she could to find someone. It was dark, and no vehicles were driving around. Only the street lamps were lit. After running for a few minutes, she finally found the shadow. She ran towards it and immediately held the person’s hand, too scared to let him go. It was James. She hugged him, but slowly, he was backing away from her. James was leaving her hand with a sad smile on his face. The scene changed when he let go of her hand. It was James and her but on the bridge. She was shouting for him to come back, but he was walking backward and, suddenly, a vehicle from nowhere came up and hit him, causing him to fall off the bridge into the water. Olivia immediately ran towards the edge and was about to jump herself, but she felt someone holding her back. She kept on shouting again and again, but the person did not let her go. But she pushed herself harder and finally jumped from the bridge to save her brother. And immediately, the scene changed with James lying peacefully on the hospital bed with Olivia, who was apparently awake, and all her friends surrounding her and learned that Caleb was the one who called 911 before jumping off the pull to save her and her twin.

Caleb felt Olivia's grip on his stomach tighten in the middle of the night. He was worried that Livy would have another nightmare, but after a few seconds, she calmed down and snuggled closer to him.

*At home*

Olivia was sitting in James' room with him beside her, lying down. Stella and Zack had just left after spending some time with James. Even Drake, Jiggy, Mason, and Sia visited.

Olivia was looking at James and was remembering all the past memories she had with him. It felt like yesterday when they were fighting and laughing with each other, but at the same time, it felt like ages since she had spent some time with her brother. She wanted to do nothing but talk to him like she used to before.

Olivia's train of thought was interrupted when Caleb knocked on the door.

“Hey, I bought you food.” He stated.

“I am not hungry.” She mumbled.

“Livy, you haven't eaten anything since yesterday. Mom and dad are worried about you. At least, have a bite.” Caleb told her clearly, showing concern for her health. He went towards her and gave her some noodles to snack on.

“You know Caleb, when we were in seventh, our school canteen was serving noodles for lunch. James, like usual, was poking me. I got so annoyed that I threw noodles on his face, and in return, when he tried to do the same, it landed on Mason and so on. The whole food fight took place. So all of us got detention and had to clean the whole canteen.” Olivia began chuckling at this memory.

“You guys might have had a hell of a time.” He gave a sad smile.

“Yes, we did. Thank you, Caleb, for everything.” Olivia had tears in her eyes, which made Caleb sit in front of her.

“Olivia, you have nothing to thank me for. You will always have me standing with you. And don't forget Stella, Zack, Mason, Sia, Drake, and Jiggy.” Caleb wiped her tears from her cheeks and embraced her.

“And even your godparents are there with you.” Ella and David came from behind and joined their kids in a hug.

“Not to forget us.” Carson and Claudia also joined them.

Olivia was overwhelmed by the love and, for the first time, she felt happy, despite her brother's coma. But she knew she had all the support she needs.

But as said, nothing lasts forever.

After lots of persistence from Knight's family, Olivia decided to join them in the living room to spend some time with them. But, unfortunately, staying beside James, twenty-four by seven, was not very healthy.

Everyone was sitting on the couch watching the news, but one headline caught the eyes of not only Olivia but also Carson.

In the news, a man named Dominic was shown to be on his way to becoming one of the top businessmen.

Before the picture of this man could be shown, Carson changed the channel where the old episode of F.R.I.E.N.D.S. was being shown. But in between the show, Claudia excused herself and went into the room along with Carson following her.

After an hour, Olivia went back to sleep, but it wasn't good enough. She had an uneasy feeling about this Dominic guy.

Olivia was getting restless, so she got up from her bed and went downstairs to the kitchen to drink some milk. But she was surprised to find Carson in the kitchen pouring milk for himself.

“Do you mind if I join?” Olivia asked him from behind, causing him to jump.

“God! You scared the crap out of me.” He exclaimed with his right palm on his heart.

“Sorry,”

Carson poured her some milk into a glass and patted the seat beside him.

“So why are you up so late?” He asked her.

“I couldn’t sleep.

“Neither do I.” He admitted with a long sigh.

“Are you okay? You were looking a bit off by the end of the night.” Olivia asked him. She did notice Carson behaving a bit weird when the day was about to end.

“You know, Olivia, this Dominic guy shown in the news is an arsehole. It’s all a big facade.” He told her.

“What... I don’t get it.” She said to him.

“My life did not become a living hell because I began to use drugs. Instead, it became a nightmare when I tried to get out of it.

“Carson, I cannot understand anything you are saying,” Olivia asked him in confusion.

She couldn’t understand any relation between this Dominic guy and the story that Carson was telling her.

“Olivia, Dominic is one of the biggest drug dealers, and I used to work for him.” To which Olivia gasped.

“When I started taking drugs and helping Dominic with his business, I started to change. Mom and Dad noticed it, and they were worried about me. I might have been a doper and a peddler, but I was smart. I realized how I was wasting my life, so I decided to get my act together. It was a bit before when I hit Caleb, and my life took a turn for the worst.

I went to Dominic to tell him that I didn’t want to continue working for him, but he didn’t take it well. He threatened me with my family. I was underage and scared, so I gave in to him. I was one of his best, and he didn’t want to lose his best player.

“But why were you working for him? If you wanted money, then I am sure Ella and David would have given it to you.” She asked him, confused.

“It wasn’t about money. Being rich sure has its perks, but it also had a downfall. People in my crowd were always downgrading me for having everything on a silver platter, so to prove myself, I landed myself in the worst position ever. At first, I was only given a job to mix some kind of powder in people’s drinks. But later on, I found out it was a way to attract people to take drugs. I was good at being discrete. So when I told Dominic that I want to back out, he didn’t take my decision well. He not only threatened me, but he also started to provide me with stronger drugs discreetly. He knew that I lost my game as I couldn’t provide people with drugs, so he started mixing drugs in the food and drink I consume as a punishment. And gradually, the craving got worse, and that’s how my downfall began. But when I hit Caleb, it was the last straw. I knew that I was becoming the worst enemy of myself, and I had to get away from him and the people I love, so that’s the reason I left them.” Carson completed his story.

“Carson, do they know?” Olivia asked him.

“No. I couldn't bring myself to tell them. So at present, it's only you and Claudia who know the full story.

“But they deserve to know it.

“Olivia, it's of no use digging into my past when we have a future to look forward to. And as it is, it doesn't change anything.

“No, Carson, it changes every goddam thing. “You were forced to take drugs,” Olivia exclaimed.

“That's what I have been trying to tell him. But he doesn't listen.” Claudia came and joined them.

“Maybe with time, I will tell them, but not now,” Carson told both of them.

“But what I don't understand is how Dominic was able to mix drugs with your food without you knowing?” Olivia asked in confusion.

“Olivia, Dominic was powerful from the beginning. He knows people and will do anything to get what he wants. If he doesn't get it, he destroys them in the worst way possible. That guy is way too smart. He knows each and every player in his group. He entertains them personally.” Claudia told her.

“He is a dangerous man, Olivia. When I left, they were working or selling the drug named Crystal, which is one of the worst drugs ever, and I am sure by now he might have destroyed so many people's lives from it.” Carson added.

“Why didn't you ever go to the police?” She asked him.

“I wanted to, Olivia. But unfortunately, he has some police officers in his pockets. It's not that easy.

Olivia gave a nod and was clearly astonished by the new information she had learned.

All three of them were about to call it a night. But before Olivia went to walk towards her room, she asked Carson, “What's his full name?

“People know him as Dominic Anderson, but his real name is Dominic Valentino. Olivia, don't think much about it.” With that, Carson went into his room.

The name Dominic Valentino caused her breath to hitch. She was scared and hoped that she was wrong about the drug dealer, Dominic Valentino, being the person she was thinking of.

Olivia rushed to her room and opened up her laptop. The entire night, she looked at Dominic Anderson, aka Valentino, and even searched for the drug crystal.

It was nearly morning, and Olivia was exhausted from the things she had found in her research.

It doesn't take a genius to put two and two together.
