Chapter 4

"UH!" I threw my bag on the floor and flop down on the couch.

I enjoyed spending time with Max. I've learned a lot about him, what he dislikes and likes and his favourite place to hang out. The only thing is that I only had an hour with him, I could have stayed longer after my detention was over but Ms. Samuels just had to come and take him.

"What's wrong, honey?" Papa asked as he and dad came into the room.

"I'm growing impatient with this crush thing. Settling down takes so long to reach to the the dating part." I huff.

"Is this about that Max kid you like?" Papa ask and dad look up surprise.

"You like Max?"

"Uh duh, I thought you already knew."

"No, I didn't." He shook his head.

"Well, are you going to tell me to leave him alone, don't bring him into my 'little games'." I rolled my eyes.

"Nope."

"What?"

"I trust you, it's the first I'm see you worry about a crush like this. I think you can settle down." Dad smiled.

"Thanks."

The room went silent but then I broke it with my curious question.

"Uh, dad?"

"Yeah?"

"What problems does Max have? why does Ms. Samuels have to watch him like that?" Dad sat down with Papa in his lap.

"Well um...I'm not going to tell you a lot, but he's an orphan, well for now, we don't know where his parents are and he won't say anything to anyone."

"Oh."

Max's an orphan, no one knows where his parents are. Still that doesn't bother me.

Max's p.o.v

"Lights out in five minutes guys." Ms. Kay closed our bed room door.

In each bedroom there are four people. In my bedroom there are three bullies and me. I asked to change rooms, but Ms. Kay doesn't believe what I say about them, she thinks I'm making it up. My roommates are Jack, Noah and Herry. I skipped a grade, so they're older than me I'm 15 and they're 17. They beat me up most of the time I'm in here. I climbed on to my bed and took off my glasses.

"Hey nerd, how's school going for yah?" One of my bullies Jack asked, they go to the same school as me, but because of Ms. Samuel I don't see them.

"O-okay."

I smile when I remembered Jace in detention. We're friends. He's really nice, much nicer than anyone else in my life. I still can't believe he want to be friends with me. ME!

"What's in your head that's got you smiling like that?" Jack asked.

"His boyfriend." Noah sang and Jack and Herry laughed.

"You have a boyfriend, faggot?" Jack smirked.

"N-no." I said and turn my head away from them.

"What about that football player you were talking to in English?" Herry asked.

I didn't even know he was in my English class I was too into Jace and too shy to even look at anyone.

"Oh um...Jace is it? Yeah he's gay too, but he's way out of your league even if you both are fags." They all laugh and I squeeze my eyes shut.

I hate them so much. I hate this place.

Jace's p.o.v

"I'm leaving." I called as I walked out the door.

I got in my car and drove to school, meeting Trent in the parking lot. We sat on the front of my car and talked. Soon Ms. Samuels' car drove and she and Max got out, I smiled when I saw Max, in his hoodie and his head down while Ms. Samuels was him in the school.

"So what's your next plan for your sweetheart." Trent asked and I rolled my eyes, but smirked.

"I was thinking I could get Ms. Samuels to like me then I don't have to talk to Max in private all the time."

"Well, good luck with that one."

We walked into school and the bell rang. After going to our locker Trent and I made our way to English class. while going up the stairs we saw Ms. Samuels and Max. We hurried after them.

"Hey, Ms. Samuels, need some help?" I smile and nod to the three huge books in her hands.

She narrowed her eyes but shrugged and push the books in my hand. Holy shit, they were heavy. She walked up the stairs with a blushing Max and Trent chuckling beside me.

"Need some help, bro?" He asked with a goofy smile.

"Yeah." I squeaked out.

"Eh, no way." He said and ran up the stairs.

"Son of a b**ch!"

Once I reached the class I dropped the books on the table and tried to catch my breath, my hands were hurting.

"Thanks Jace, this is the first kind thing you've ever done."

"Well, that's because you don't know me."

"That's because I don't want to." Ms. Samuels shot back.

Well damn. She went to the board and I sat down beside Trent who was sitting behind Max.Max was looking around, nervously. His eyes stop on a brown haired boy with a red jacket, the boy smirk evilly at Max and Max looked away quickly hiding behind his hair.

"Who's that kid?" I asked Trent and pointed to the boy.

"That's Noah, he's been in the same English class with us since last year, dude."

"Oh, I've never seen him before".I shrug.

That Noah kid makes Max nervous, I don't like him.

There was an empty seat beside Max and I got up and sat beside him. He turn his head and flip his hair out of his eyes, when he saw it was me he blushed an looked away.

"Hey, Max." I said softly and he turn to me and smile.

"Hey, Jace." His voice was a little louder now and soft.

"So, you want to hang out after school?"I ask hoping he would say yes.

"He won't be going anywhere with you, Jace." I sighed and look up at Ms. Samuels.

"I think it's Max's call if he wants to or not." I smiled.

"Well, I'm responsible for him so I say no."

"Well I say...yes and you know me, Ms. Samuels, I get what I want and I want Max to hang out with me."

"May I please go with Jace, he's my only friend." Max ask, his eyes pleading, if that was me I couldn't say no. Ms. Samuels huffed.

"Okay, but it has to be at his house when his dad is there."

"He will be, I promise."

"I know you don't keep promises Jace." Ms. Samuels rolled her eyes and went back to teaching.

I smile and turn to Max and brush his hair out of his eyes to look in them.

So beautiful.
