Mr. Humble

Chapter 1

Eric Humble has always been amazing, in both his career and his appearance. At least to everybody’s view of him. He is usually at the top of his game as the head of the marketing department. His presentations and proposals were brilliant. His marketing campaigns were often successful. Most of the executives shower him with praises every time he produces good results.

Mr. Humble is popular with the ladies, maybe with the men, as well. With his broad chest and muscular arms, he is the popular topic of the gushing females in the break room. They said he was charming and handy with things. The pretty accounting assistant was even sure that he was making a pass at her once when he complimented her blazer once. One of them was also sure that Mr. Humble had tried to pull some moves on her when he offered to drive her home. The ladies all giggle as they talked about his sharp jaws, bushy eyebrows, and dark eyes. Their hushed whispers were filled with Mr. Humble's thick thighs and how they fit perfectly in those black slacks he always wears. They were unaware of the assistant lurking a little way from them. James Carter has a small smile on his face as he caught some of their praises, and thirst, for Mr. Humble. He was silently making coffee for the man himself as he chanced upon the ladies’ conversation. And he tried his best not to be noticed by them.

Jamie has been Mr. Humble’s assistant for five years now. He was broke and fresh out of college when the handsome man took a chance in hiring him. Eric took him under his wing back then, taught him the ropes of their business, and even advised him regarding how he should match his shoes with his suits. It’s been five years of all-nighters and last-minute planning of campaigns; of coffee runs and lunch meeting arrangements. It is also five years of admiring Mr. Humble for Jamie. Of blushing, whenever their knees touched under the meeting table, of his heart fluttering whenever his boss complimented him.

“You’re the talk in the break room again, sir,” Jamie told the man who accepted the coffee from across the desk.

Mr. Humble hummed before sipping the beverage, “Well, our last campaign worked wonders. You did a good job with it, Jamie.

“M-me, sir?

Eric flashed him a wide grin. “Yes. If it weren’t for your help, the team and I would have been in big trouble.

“Thank you, sir.” Jamie did his best not to blush, looking down as he felt his cheeks’ warm betrayal. In his bashfulness, he did not notice his boss getting up and walking around the desk. Only when he held him by the shoulders that Jamie looked up to meet those deep, dark eyes that the ladies were talking about.

“So you’re coming with me, right? On the business trip next week? I signed you to go with me this time.

Wait. What now?
