Chapter 8

Shanequa's bump was getting bigger and so was she. It wasn't as if pregnancy didn't look good on her, it sure did. Her cravings and morning sickness were getting worse. But not once did Kamon complain about it. He was patient with her obnoxious demands and their late-night trips to the store just to get her what she wanted. It was fun and it brought them much closer to each other than they already were.

“Pregnancy sure looks good on you, you know," Simona said to her as they went out for brunch. “How's married life treating you? I know it's not easy, especially when there is no ounce of love between both of you." She added.

“Well, it's getting better by the day. But I have a question to ask. How come you never said anything to your husband when he threatened your son to marry a woman he knew absolutely nothing about?" She said our of the blue.

“I didn't because Peter won't listen to me, he never does. Besides we were betrothed, we never loved each other, we just learned to live with each other, we'll for Peter he was a chronic cheat and each time I said anything about it, he'd hit me. So I stopped talking about it, I also had men I found comfort in for a while then I decided to stop seeing them and try to have kids with my husband. When I bore Kamon, he changed. Peter stopped seeing those women and became more focused on me, and then here we are now." Simona added sipping her iced tea.

“I see." She smiled at the middle-aged woman.

“Don't try to sacrifice your happiness for any man, if he gets used to that, he's gonna use that against you for the rest of your life," Simona said after a while.

“It was nice meeting you for brunch, take care dear," Simona told and she got up and left.

Shanequa sat at the café, she was enjoying the view of the city from the rooftop as someone approached her.

“Shane." The voice she had grown to hate after he left her for money.

“What do you want Zane?" She asked without looking at his face to see how much he had changed. That didn't matter to her anymore.

“ I just wanted to say hello." He said after a few minutes passed.

“Hi, and bye, I was just leaving." She added making him see the ring on her finger as she picked her bag and walked away. Her driver stood in the driveway waiting for her.

“Ready to go ma'am?" He asked.

“Sure, Bill let's drive around town for a while then head home." She told him as he drove off.

Zane stood at the rooftop looking down at Shanequa's car that had just left. He regretted that he didn't fight for their love. But at that time he needed the money and he had to run for his life because her mother had threatened him.

“Hey, Melinda." Rory, one of her coursemates working with her in her university's hospital greeted.

“Rory, what's up?" She asked.

“Nothing, I'm just tired from morning runs, " He yawned.

“This isn't even the real deal yet and you already exhausted, imagine completing school and working in a hospital from morning till the night time." She said to him.

“I'd better get used to it, you up for a coffee date after this?" He inquired. “Sorry Rory, I'm meeting up Nita after this, raincheck?" She asked.

“Oh, okay next time then." He walked out disappointed.

“Shanequa Hall?" Mase, her long lost friend called out to her in the supermarket. She had gotten bored of been driven around town so she decided to stop at the shopping mall to get some junk food.

“Mase?" She said after a while of trying to recognize him.

“Its been ages, how have you been?" She asked him.

“I've been good, ah, I see you got married." He referred to her ring and her baby bump.

“Who's the lucky guy?" Mase probed.

“Kamon Mills." She added.

“Congratulations by the way, " He said to her.

“Thanks, what of you and Rita?" She remembered his girlfriend.

“We got married and had a kid." He said as his eyes lit up in happiness.

“That's great news, we should catch up sometime." He told giving her his digits.

“We sure would." She smiled as he walked off. She paid for the stuff she bought and pushed the trolley outside to where her car was parked. Bill helped her load the stuff into the car and then she sat in the car while he took her home.
