Before the night owl

According to our plan, we were supposed to reach The Night Owl in the evening at 10 or maybe I should just call it night. The journey was of three hours so we decided to step out of the FBI bureau in afternoon at 1 after lunch. We'd get a hotel room there so Zack and I can change in our fancy clothes to blend with the people at the Night Owl. The rest would just load their guns and other weapons.

The door to my cabin opened and Ryan cocked just his head in,

"Hey Ann! Mind joining for a lunch at the restaurant outside?"

"Sure, I'll be at the restaurant in a few minutes."

"See you there Ann."

When Ryan left, I put some cash and cards in my wallet and left my cabin after shutting down my computer. Being a FBI agent, it was more convenient that I don't carry a purse or a hand bag, even though I'd love to. I waved at a few familiar faces as I came down the stairs. When I reached the restaurant, I looked for the table we usually booked. Since the restaurant was close to the bureau and had good food, we were regular customers here. But, when I found the table, Sam, Jacob, Mary and Zack were already seated with Ryan. Why did I think it was going to be just Ryan and I? Did I think of it as a date? With Ryan? Just before the mission? Can I get anymore stupid?

When I was thinking of my stupidity, I saw Jacob wave at me. I hid my expressions, which were a mixture of shock and disappointment, and went to the table. I was about to sit next to Mary when Ryan got up and pulled a chair next to him for me, like a true gentleman. I felt a warmth in my chest at this gesture, I smiled at him and he smiled back. His pearly whites and the pink lips instantly made my cheeks tomato red. Ryan smirked at my reaction. This dumb son of bitch had the audacity to smirk at me! And the worst thing, I couldn't stop staring at him. Shoot!

"Ahem Ahem" Mary coughed suggestively, bringing us out of our little moment. When I was back to senses and properly seated on my chair, I realised everyone at table was staring at Ryan and I. And this cunning man was hiding his face perfectly with the menu. Does that mean he was blushing too? I waved my head to get rid of the thought.

"What are you guys ordering?" I asked trying to change the topic.

"I'm ordering a lasagna but, I think we should order a honeymoon suite for you and Ryan?" Sam joked. Everyone including I, couldn't stop smiling at her comment.

"If you guys are insisting so much then, we might as well do that." Ryan said placing his hand on my shoulder. I elbowed him for this. Everyone else at the table were enjoying the show.

Our waitress arrived and asked for our orders which we gave her without wasting her time.

"What can I get you sir?" the waitress asked Ryan.

"Since you're not on the menu, I'd like to have a plate of Alfredo pasta with garlic bread." he said smiling at her.

The waitress couldn't help but blush at this. Obviously, who wouldn't? Ryan was a beautiful man and he could woo anyone on the planet. He flirted with everyone and I was developing a crush on him. I was assigned to arrest one of the most ruthless criminals on the planet and I was busy thinking about a date with my very handsome colleague. How intelligent of you agent Anastasia!

I must stop thinking about all this, if I wished to get hold of Marco. I avoided the whole topic and tried to remain as unaffected as possible at the lunch table. When everyone was done eating, we went back to the bureau. I still had to choose a dress, it was one of the rare times when I would get opportunity to play dress up but, I had to make sure what ever I wear is comfortable enough for me to fight because you never know what might happen.

My cabin was my home, I had so much of random stuff here, it was ridiculous. But I was pretty sure I had some fancy and comfy dresses here as well. After looking around for a while, I found a blue dress which had two thigh high slits so I could easily move my legs and it had sweetheart style neck with thick straps so I was sure it wouldn't fall off if I was fighting with someone. Sexy and comfy: a lethal combination. I was confused if I wanted to wear heels or not but, went with ballet flats. My usual running shoes would definitely not look good with this dress even though it's what I wear most of the days, I chuckled when I thought about it.

I was packing my other essentials and some weapons. I was very excited about this. I wasn't sure if I was excited about the mission. I was busy packing when I heard a knock. "Come in," I said. All of my team members entered the cabin with their bags in their hands.

"You guys are done packing?" I asked.

"Yes," everyone replied and nodded.

"Alright, I'm almost done. Just a few minutes more."

"What's that?" Sam said trying to grab my dress. I grabbed it from her palms and tried to dramatically hide it.

"That's my dress,"

"What dress?" Zack inquired.

"The dress I will be wearing to The Night Owl,"

"Why are you hiding it?" Jacob asked. Confusion was evident on his face.

"I want it to be a surprise, since I never dress up," everyone chuckled at this.

"Sweet Ann, you're so cute it hurts!" Ryan said dramatically clutching his shirt pretending it was his heart. We all started laughing.

"Let us go meet Director Joshua and then we can leave," I said, shoving the dress in my bag.

"Alright, let's go."
