Chapter 4

One hour passes, and I briefly wake up, two hours pass and I wake up again with Sebastian's arm around me. Half an hour passes and I wake up again, but this time I can't fall back asleep. I lay in bed listening to Sebastian's quiet snores and pray that I fall asleep soon. Another hour passes and the hopeless feelings are coming on, with the urge to sneeze.

I want to scream in frustration but it wouldn't be worth waking him up along with Henry down the hall.

Slowly I slip out from under Sebastian's arm and head downstairs for a glass of water. I decide to sit on the counter because Marina isn't here to scold me and I take small sips.

The water helps with my dry throat and I slowly kick my legs back and forth.

I glance out the window and me eyes grow wide when I see her standing out by the forest line. Her hair flowing with the wind and her hand hold each other while laying on her dress. Suddenly her hand lifts up and motions for me.

I softly set down the glass of water and walk towards the back door. I peek my head outside after unlocking it. "I don't think this is a good idea." I somewhat loudly whisper to her, but she only gently motions for me again. I glance back in the house to make sure no one is watching me before I slip outside.

I jog over to her and cross my arms. "It's freezing out here!" I loudly whisper again, not wanting to wake up anyone.

"Don't turn cold Evangeline." She wraps her finger around the end of one strand of my hair then let's it fall. "You killed the Alpha, but that's not who you are."

"Who am I then?" I step back and hug myself for warmth.

"You're a Luna now, one with duties to help her pack strive, to work along side your mate."

I let out a breath of hot air, creating a cloud of fog. "I know that."

"You're marked now Evangeline."

"I know that too."

Her smile suddenly fades. "You must go inside now, you're not safe here."

My heart rate picks up. "What are you talking about?"

She looks behind her into the trees. "Three rouges are coming this way, please go inside." Then she fades away with the midnight breeze, leaving me alone in the cold.

"You can't just leave me here!" I whisper and groan before running back to the back door. Just as I get in and shut it I spot a rouge emerging from the tree line.

My heart stops and I run upstairs into the bedroom, I jump on Sebastian and he immediately wakes up. "Evangeline what are-"

"There's rouges outside!" I smack him on the chest over and over again like a child. "There's three of them!"

He lifts me off of him and sets me down on the bed before getting up and leaving the room. Obviously I crawl off the bed and follow him downstairs. "There in the trees by the back door." I instruct him and he walks into the kitchen.

The moonlight shines through the large windows, illuminating my surroundings with a elegant glow.

He must have spotted them because he grabs my shoulders and stares at me dead in the eyes. "Evangeline please stay here, do not go outside."

I nod and he quietly exits through the door. Instead of staying and watching I decide to check on Henry to make sure he's okay and in bed. So I rush back upstairs and come up to his closed door. I peek in to find him fast asleep in bed. Relief fills me and I quietly close the door then I hurry to the bedroom and grab Sebastian a pair of pants before heading back to the kitchen.

I stick my hand outside while looking away and gladly feel the pants being pulled from me.

"Guards are coming to collect the bodies." He comes inside wearing the pants. "I'm going to have to bring this up tomorrow." He thinks out loud and grabs a water bottle form the fridge. Quickly he drinks it all.

"How did you see them?"

I lean against the counter and play with the ends of my hair like she did. "Do you want what you'd want to hear or the truth?" I innocently peer up at him and plaster on a small smile as if saying 'I'm sorry'.

"What did you do?" He crosses him arms.

"I might have gone outside-"

"You went outside, in the dark, alone, when you're sick." He looks unamused. "Why?"

"She's was calling me, she needed to talk."

"She?" He sets down the water bottle and walks to the stairs.

"You know, the moon goddess." I follow him.

"Why would she bring you outside? Couldn't you two talk inside where it's safe?"

I sigh. "I told her that it was a bad idea."

"Oh of course." He mutters and crashes onto the bed.

"You think I'm crazy." I frown and stand by the door.

He lets out a long breath and runs his hand through his hair. "I don't, you just jumped on me and I had to kill rouges and I'm just a little tired."

He's tired? I haven't slept pretty much all night because I'm sick! I cross my arms and look away from him. "I'm going to go watch tv."

"Fine just don't go outside."

"Like you care." I mumble to myself.

"What was that?" He looks up and I slap on a fake smile.

"Nothing, sleep well." With that I quietly stomp all the way back downstairs and flop onto the couch. I groan and shout into the throw pillow then look up to the ceiling.

"Maybe I'll be able to fall asleep down here." I say to myself and grab the small blanket off the chair.

You won't be able to, my wolf pipes up.

Oh so now to talk, after everything you talk to me now?

Be glad I'm talking to your grumpy butt anyways.

I mentally roll my eyes at her. Don't sass me!

Annoyed, I lay on the couch and curl up in the blanket. Just let me sleep.

Don't be mad at Sebastian, he's been working really hard lately.

I don't care, I say to her and try to ignore her voice. It's like he doesn't even care that I lost my mom or that I had to go to the doctor for embarrassing reasons or that I'm sick!

She stays quiet.

Don't have anything to say huh? I take my victory and slap my head on the pillow.

Wow, Evan isn't getting her way, what are you going to do? Hold a gun to your head again?

"Would you just leave me alone!" I accidentally shout out loud and immediately cover my mouth with my hand. Look what you made me do, now he's going to wake up and be all angry!

I internally curse at myself for fighting with my wolf and I hear movement upstairs. I begin to panic so I throw the blanket over my head and pretend to be asleep. "Evangeline what is it this time? Who are you talking to?"

Sebastian voice grows louder and I bite my lip to stay quiet. I can fee his eyes burning holes through me and I can't help but squirm. "Evangeline what are you doing?"

I feel like a volcano that needs to explode,as if I'm finally going to burst again like I did when I killed the Alpha. I have the habit of holding in my emotions because I don't want to upset him.

"N-Nothing, I'm sorry." I hold myself back and stay hidden under the blanket.

"Just come back up to bed." He sighs and moves to the front of the couch, I can see his legs through the small crack between the couch and blanket.

"I don't want to, I want to be alone." I don't want him to see me cry.

"Evangeline what's wrong?" His voice turns softer and he knees down in front of me.

Don't do it Evangeline, don't you dare cry. You can cry when he goes back upstairs, just hold it, please. "I'm really okay, I think my cold is getting worse so I'm going to sleep down here, just please go back up stairs."

My chest grows tight as if more and more weights are placed on it every second. I can't breathe.

"Hey, talk to me, I know something's wrong." He coos and places his hand on my arm, the soft blanket between us.

I can't.

"Don't shut me out."

I can't.

"Evangeline just talk to me."

Go away. Please just go away.

"Okay, I'll leave you, just know I'll be upstairs if you need anything." His tone sounds somewhat blue, like he's upset. I listen to his footsteps as they travel upstairs before I uncover myself.

Maybe it's the fact that I can't take it, I can't take pretending anymore. I tell myself that I didn't hear him say it. Those three little words that mean everything.

I love you.
