Chapter 7

Chapter 7 - Angel

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next day was normal except for the fact that Seth kept stealing glances at me and would look away quickly when I caught him. Brian was shooting me mischievous looks every time we met eyes, making the period seem longer than it actually was. Thankfully lunch came without another problem.
"Remember to read chapter two everyone!" I said over the chatter that begun as the class began to file out of the classroom.
I sighed and sat back down in my chair, checking over the small paragraph that I assigned to get to know the students, while I waited for Jessie.
The small essays were on normal things like favourite sports, hobbies, colour, stuff like that. I told them that they could be as honest as they wanted since I was the only that was going to read them, and surprisingly they did as they were told. My lips quirked up when I read the next page I had in hand by one of the stuck up brunettes.
My favourite sport giving my hand a manicure. My favourite colour is cappuccino with a dash of cream and I want to be an Olympic shopper once I'm out of high school.
It was quite entertaining to read. The next one was equally entertaining, if not more.
My favourite colour is hot pink and I love to collect my little ponies. My favourite sport is collecting stickers and when I'm older I want to be a unicorn princess and meet leprechauns at the end of rainbows.
I looked up at the name and tried not to laugh.
"What's so funny?" My eyes found Brian leaning at the doorway with a smile on his face.
I burst out laughing to see the devil himself standing there and waved him over. He raised a brow and walked over suspiciously. I finally calmed down and cleared my throat, holding out the piece of paper in front of him, waving it. He snatched it and scowled at me before turning his eyes to the paper, they widened considerably.
"I- It's not- This is-" He stuttered, giving me a horrified look.
"Ahem. Interesting er... job choice." I bit on my lower lip from laughing again.
"It must have gotten switched with my little sister!" Brian exclaimed, dropping the paperback on my desk.
"Sure... Sure..." I smiled.
"I'm not kidding!"
"Right..."
"Seriously!"
"I know."
"Yeah, right. You don't believe me." He narrowed his eyes at me.
"Your right, I don't," I smirked, earning a glare from him.
"Well, well, well. What's this now?" A sing-song voice floated into the room.
I snapped my head in its direction to see Jessie at the doorway.
"A teacher harassing a student, huh?" She put emphasis on the two words and winked at me.
"That's not-" I began, but was cut ff by Brian.
"Yes, it's exactly what this is." He deadpanned.
I gasped at his seriousness. I scowled when I realized he was joking, he chuckled and shook his head, ruffling my hair.
"That wasn't funny!" I frowned and batted his hand away, smoothing down my hair.
"So are we going out or staying here to eat?" Jessie said suddenly.
"You two are friends?" He raised a brow, looking from me to Jessie, then back again.
"Y-" I was going to say, but remembered that there was supposed to be an eight-year difference between us.
"Of course we are, why wouldn't we be?" She raised a brow.
I waved my hands wildly at her, trying to get her to shut up, but she didn't notice.
"I just thought because she was older than you..." I can imagine Brian scowling, he had his back to me and was facing Jessie.
"Yeah, only by like a month." She rolled her eyes.
There, she said it. Great. Terrific. She caught my wild look and her mouth opened, pointing at him with a look that said: "He didn't know?". I nodded, placing my head in my hands.
What's with everyone and finding out my secret? At this rate I'll be questioned about committing identity fraud and my sister would be fired, she really wanted this job.
"Jessie!" I exclaimed exasperated.
"A month..." Brian frowned. "Can someone please tell me what's going on here?"
Jessie began explaining the whole thing without my permission, I really needed to tape her mouth. I sighed when she finished, Brian looked at me with a shocked expression.
"Wait so- What about the whole engagement thing with Seth?" He raised a brow at me.
Jessie snapped her attention back to me. "Engagement?!" She asked, a big smile plastered on her face.
"I was blackmailed to help." I shrugged.
Well, technically I wasn't, but if I refused, I would've been anyway. Brian just looked at me with a weird expression, like he was trying to process all of this.
"That's... very interesting." He finished lamely.
I rolled my eyes at him, he gave me a weak smile. Pushing myself out of my seat, I went my tiptoes so I was somewhat around Brian's height.
"You can't tell anyone, okay?" I said in a serious tone.
"Yes, mam." He smiled and pushed me back down to my feet. "This Aaron guy sounds like a total b-"
"Language." I glared at him, I never liked swearing.
"B-baby." He finished.
Jessie started laughing behind him. That makes it three people who now knew my secret. My sister better come back soon before any more people do. I have a feeling they won't be as accepting as the two in front of me.
"So are we going out to eat or what?" Jessie asked.
"I think we should stay here," I said, heading in the direction of the door.
"Why?" Brian joined in.
"I'm a... teacher and you two are students? It's not rocket science." I sighed before leaving the room, going to the cafeteria to pick up my lunch.
Brian and Jessie left after me, trailing me there. We joined the lunch line, I grabbed a burger and the lunch lady grabbed everything else that I'd normally order. She smiled at me when I gave her a surprised look, I never thought that she'd remember what I wanted only after two days. I smiled back after and paid for the food.
"So you never told me what happened." Jessie walked on my right side, while Brian was on my left.
"Happened with what?" I asked confused.
She rolled her eyes. "The engagement thing, of course!"
I shrugged and glanced at Brian, silently telling him to explain since I didn't feel like it. We got back to the classroom. Jessie and Brian lounged on top of the desks in front of mine, while I read through more essays and munched on my burger, waiting for him to finish retelling the story. I heard the lunch bell rang.
"You two better go before someone catches you here," I said, tossing the tinfoil into the trashcan, but missed.
"But I have some questions for you!" Jessie whined, looking at me with a puppy dog face.
She wasn't nearly as good as Christine.
"Just text me later." I waved my hand dismissively.
"Fine." She huffed and was ushered out by a chuckling Brian.
I walked over to the trashcan and picked up the wrapper I missed and dropped it in.
"Angel!" I heard someone exclaim.
I turned to see Seth speeding down the hall towards me with an anxious expression. My heart sped up, something was wrong, his expression was usually calm and showed almost nothing.
"What-?" I began but was cut off.
"Come with me."
He grabbed my hand and began to drag me down the hall. I winced at his grip but didn't say anything. He pulled me down the science wing and stopped in front of a classroom. I was shoved against the door, Seth's hand positioning my head so that it was right in front of the door's window. What if someone saw me? I scowled at the thought, making a mental note to yell at Seth later.
"Look." He said between clenched teeth, prodding my head with a finger when I didn't answer.
"At what?" I said impatiently.
My eyes moved around the classroom, looking for anything that looked out of place. Nothing did. Trying to push myself away from the door didn't help, Seth's grip on me only tightened. I flinched. He seemed to have noticed this time and loosened a bit, but not enough for me to break away. I looked towards the front of the classroom and my eyes widened.
"Everyone, this is Amy Sykes, our new student. Please make her feel welcome!"
