Chapter 5

Chapter 5 - Angel

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Wow..." The figure said, her mouth opened slightly
"It's not what it looks like!" I said quickly.
Jessie's eyes went to our intertwined hands, raising a brow.
"I- He- Well- He fainted?" I said more as a question than an answer.
"Right..."
"He did!"
"Sure..."
"Why don't you believe?!" I said exasperated.
"Should I take a picture and show you what it looks like?" Jessie asked, holding out and waving her phone in the air with a smirk on her face.
I frowned at her, then realized something that I should have realized right when she came in.
"How did you get my house anyway?" I asked, changing the subject.
She rolled her eyes at me and sauntered over, plopping down right in front of me and settles herself into a more comfortable position, tucking her legs underneath her.
"I've been your best friend for like what? Seven, eight years now, I know where you hide your spare keys." She answered simply.
"Oh yeah..." I said, feeling stupid.
"Now then, what's with this?" She gestured to the unconscious guy on the guest bed.
"Well, you were right..." I began, gaining a superior smirk Jessie, which I returned with an eye roll.
I told her all about the park, his sudden hug, then to the part where he fainted like the manly man he was. I explained to her about his fever, the lugging of his body to my house, and why he was half-naked too.
"Aw... That's so sweet!" She exclaimed, giving a dreamy look in Seth's direction.
"More like idiotic." I snorted, finally tugging my hand free from his, his grip loosened surprisingly. "Anyway... Exactly why are you here?" I asked, snapping her out of her trance.
"Since you wouldn't answer my texts after that call I made, I figured something must be up." Jessie shrugged. "And something clearly was." She smiled knowingly.
I fished out my phone and just noticed the hundred or so from the text maniac in front of me and the same number of calls, luckily I had unlimited incoming texts or Christine is going to freak when she saw the bill. I looked back up to see my best friend's green eyes staring apologetically at me. She unconsciously tucked a loose strand of her auburn colored hair, that reached a little past her shoulders, behind her ear.
"By the way, you know teachers are supposed to get to school earlier than students, right?" Jessie said suddenly, looking at me expectantly.
I opened my mouth, my eyes flying in the direction of the clock.
"It's-" I began.
"8:05 am." She finished for me.
I looked down at Seth and groaned.
"Second day and I'm already calling in sick," I grumbled as I dialed the school's number and told the secretary I was taking the day off because I was sick.
"You're not going?" Jessie asked with a surprised look on her face.
"I can't exactly leave him here now can I?" I scowled at Seth lying on the bed.
"True." Jessie shrugged and got up, leaving the room.
"Where are you going?" I asked when I hung up.
"Breakfast." She pointed in the direction of my kitchen.
Figures. It was such a Jessie thing to do, barge into someone's house demanding what they've been up to, then raiding their kitchen. I trudged downstairs after Jessie, closing the guest room door softly behind me. She'd already started cracking eggs into a pan to make an omelet, it was like she never moved, never left.
"Did you move back into the area?" I asked while taking out the orange juice, emptying what's left of it into two tall glasses.
"Yeah, my mom got transferred back here for her job." She shrugged. "O.M.G. I love this song!" She squeaked right after she turned on the radio that was sitting in the middle of the island.
I choked on my orange juice, finding there was pulp that collected at the bottom of the carton, then secretly switched my glass with her's. I looked up and laughed as I watched her dance like a crazy person, using the spatula as a microphone as she belted out the lyrics of the song.
"What the?" A voice came from the direction of the stairs.
We both look up to see Seth standing there, rubbing his sleepy eyes with a dumbfounded expression. His "just-woken-up" profile was breathtaking. His black hair disheveled, bangs covering his right eye. His eyes were half-closed due to sleep, and lips slightly pouting. He squinted through his droopy eyes and yawned. Jessie stifled a giggle as I raised a brow at her. He winced at the sound of the loud music coming from the radio, massaging his temples. He probably had a pounding headache.
"Where am I?" He groaned, closing his eyes.
"Angel's house." She replied.
"Angel?"
"Ms. McClain." I sighed as I walked over to him.
I put a hand on his forehead, making him jump and take a step back.
"What are you doing?" He asked, looking at me suspiciously.
"Checking your temperature." I sighed and closed the gap between us, he tensed, but I ignored it.
He still had a fever, it felt as if it were higher than it was yesterday if that was possible. Seth opened his mouth and was about to say something when all of a sudden he turned his head away and gave a few loud and wet coughs into his bare arm. I scrunched up my face.
"Come on." I started to drag him out of the room.
He began to protest, but I shot a glare at him and he clamped his mouth shut. I stopped in front of Christine's room and threw open the door, signaling for Seth to wait outside. I looked around her closet and found a pair of large basketball shorts and a baggy white t-shirt that was probably left here by Aaron. I really didn't like that guy, thankfully I wasn't home all that much when he visited.
"Here." I tossed the set of clothing to Seth, he looked at me with a weird expression. "Husband's." I waved dismissively.
His brow shot up.
"My sister's husband's" I rolled my eyes.
"Oh." He said, did he really think I was married?
I huffed at the thought and caught him with an amused expression on that pretty face of his. Wait pretty? I must be going crazy... I shook my head, only making him smile.
"Bathroom's down the hall." I gestured to an opened door, glaring at him.
He nodded and smirked without asking any questions, which was pretty odd, but I shook it off. He came out a minute after, fully changed with his still-damp jeans slung over one shoulder. I took it from him and threw it into the dryer, pressing the "on" button.
"So what exactly happened?" He asked when I got out of the bathroom.
"Well..." Did I really want to hurt his ego? Yes, I did. "You fainted," I smirked.
He furrowed his brows and his eyes became distant as if he was thinking, or trying to remember something, then something in his expression told me he remembered yesterday. I waited impatiently, tapping my feet rhythmically on the floor.
"And who's fault is that?" Seth narrowed his eyes accusingly at me after a second, registering my words from before. "You're the one who didn't show up and had me waiting for six hours! Six hours!" He exclaimed disbelievingly.
"Hey, no one told you to wait six hours! You could have just left!" I countered, frowning.
He opened his mouth, then closed it, then opened it again.
"I could blow your secret you know." He said quietly when he couldn't think of a comeback.
The realization dawned me. I ditched yesterday because I thought he was joking, but I didn't really expect him to show up or wait that long for that matter, I guess I have to pay the price now.
"What do you want me to do?" I said between clenched teeth.
"I told you what I wanted yesterday and you blew me off." He scowled.
"I thought you were joking!" I exclaimed.
"Well, I wasn't."
"Obviously," I muttered.
He frowned at my little side comment.
"Well, we're going to go out today." He said, surprising me.
"You have a fever!"
"I don't really care." Seth shrugged.
"Well I do and your staying here and rest until it goes down." I crossed my arms over my chest.
"What are you, my mother?" He copied my movement.
"You're only going to get worse." I ignored him.
He snorted. "Like I would."
"You would!" I glared at him. "Just go back to the guest room and take the medication."
"No."
"Stop being stubborn!" I shouted, throwing my hands up exasperated.
"What's going on here?" Jessie appeared in my field of vision, holding a plate of eggs and shoving it into her mouth with a gigantic fork.
I used that fork when I was little, as to how it fits in my mouth, I had no idea; I mean the thing was half the size of my hand!
"He insists we go out when he's sick." I pointed at Seth, pursing my lips. "By the way, why do you want to anyway? What kind of blackmail is that?!"
He shrugged but didn't answer me.
"Just go with what he says, if it gets worse then it's his problem." She said after swallowing a mouthful of her omelet.
"FINE!" I fumed, stomping into my room, slamming the door.
"Is she always like that?" I heard Seth's voice through my bedroom door, while I changed into a pair was leggings and a long black and white striped shirt.
"Sometimes." I heard Jessie say.
After I finished changing I pulled the door open, letting it swing on its hinges right after so it hit the wall a few times, making the door's frame vibrate.
"Anger issues." Seth coughed.
"I do not." I hissed before throwing a pair of Aaron's track pants at the guy.
Seth threw them on quickly as I grabbed hold of the arm wasn't covered in his sick germs and pulled him towards the door.
"Have fun, you guys!" Jessie called.
I slipped on my flats and grabbed a thin jacket, ripping the front door open and made my way to the driveway.
"Where are we going?" I growled as Seth stepped out of the house, closing the front door swiftly behind him.
"Whoa, why are you working when you live in a house like his?" He started at the house with a confused look on his face.
"You really need to ask." I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself.
"Oh yeah, right." He said, chuckling a bit at his mistake.
I walked over to the driver's side before I realized I didn't have my keys with me.
"I getting my keys, wait here." I barked at him and made my way towards the house again.
"No need." I heard his voice before the sound of a car door closing.
I whipped my head around to see that Seth was already in the car and in the driver's seat. Only one explanation of how he knew where to get the keys. Jessie. I scowled and turned by, dragging my feet so that it'd take longer to get to the car. I opened the door and slid in.
"Where are we going?" I asked my earlier question that wasn't answered, looking out the window as he pulled out of the driveway, Jessie's eager face plastered on the large wall to wall living room window.
"Secret." He answered simply, then sneezed.
I sighed and looked out the window. If he faints again, I swear I'm leaving him right there and then...
We arrived an hour or so later. I'd fell asleep in the car and didn't notice until I was being shaken roughly awake that we'd arrived.
"Well, we're here," Seth said, turning off the engine.
"You could've been a little more gentle." I scowled and he smirked.
I opened my eyes to see a large estate and I thought my house was big! This one was about the size of three, maybe four, of my house put together! I could see a balcony and white marble floor peaking through the edges, giving me a hint of the elegant decor of the inside. White stairs led up towards the entrance of the house, kind of like the ones that you'd find outside the museum, except more expensive and prettier. There were neatly trimmed rose bushes surrounding the area and well pampered green grass, glistening with drops of water, a sprinkler was on in the distance. There were two pillars spaced out generously on either side of the expensive-looking white front doors, light-coloured stained glass windows sat on either side of it, shining rainbows in the sun.
White doors of the estate swung open and a girl my age sprinted down the steps as fast as she could in her six-inch heels, and flung herself at Seth. I looked at his blank expression, then raised a brow at the girl. She had long curly blonde hair cascading in a waterfall braid down her back, a thin white long sleeve, and a matching skirt. Silver six-inch high heel sandals, making her almost as tall as Seth, but not quite, she was still half a head or so shorter, but still, she was way taller than I was.
"This is Amy... My fiancee." He smiled at me, there was a flash of something in his eyes that I didn't quite understand.
