Chapter-6 Break up

“Stop looking at me with those puppy eyes. I don’t think you consulted with me before promising Mrs.Victor that you would go to their home. And neither did you ask me before promising your friend’s one of my custom designed jewelry. Don’t you know how famous I am? It is not easy to get my appointment with me. Now I have to design Jewelry for all your friends for free?” Mike asked.

“Baby, please... I was just too excited and I gave my word to them. Also, after getting pregnant, I think my brain is not working like before. Please forgive me this once… Please…” She held Matt’s hands and shook them from side to side.

Then she pouted her mouth and tried to kiss him.

“Fine! Do not forget, this is only for this one time and tonight alone! Tomorrow after marriage you are coming back home. Just because Jason is getting married tomorrow, I am giving you this concession. Keep in mind that there will be no next time. Also, make sure to take enough rest. Wait here, I will go and get my car keys. I will drop you to their house.” Matt said.

“Ok, hubby. I will listen to you well from now on.” Layla smiled like an obedient child.

Matt went back inside their home to pick his car keys. He saw Jason with a horrifying expression.

“What happened to you? Why are you sitting on the floor holding your head?” Matt asked.

“Weddings are not so simple. I thought once we say the vows and kiss each other then we are done with the marriage. But there are so many things that we need to take care of before the wedding and after the wedding. I could not even ask Amy, what was her dream wedding that she wanted? Mom said, until marriage, we both are not supposed to talk or see each other as per the tradition. What should I do now? I don’t have enough time to arrange everything that is required to be done. I cannot expect mom to handle everything. It is too much work. Dad is sick and she is already busy with taking care of him. Now….” Jason panicked.

At first, it took some time for Matt to understand whom he was calling mom and dad. When it suddenly hit him that he was talking about his future mother-in-law and father-in-law, he smiled.

“Jason, relax. Lala is going to Amy’s house and she will take care of everything. All you need to do is just go say your vow and kiss your bride like you imagined it to be.” He patted Jason’s shoulder and took the car keys that he dropped on the coffee table.

“But… What about Amy’s dream wedding?” Jason asked.

“It’s too late to think about a dream wedding now. My dear boy isn’t that why I asked you to help us during our wedding. But you were so busy with your work that you hardly had any time. Even on our wedding day, you came to, like what, fifteen minutes? Throughout the wedding, you were on the phone with your clients. I understand work is important but listen to me, hand over your work to that vice-president of yours who is just coming to the office once in a full moon. Now you are going to become a married man. So you have to spend lots of time with your wife as well or else they may get seriously upset and…”

Matt kept on going with his advice until Layla came into the house and shouted.

“Are you going to come or not? I will go there myself…Did you not see we are getting late?” She warned.

“I am coming...” Matt turned around and bolted behind her, fearing that she may really go on her own.

Before leaving, he turned back once and said to Jason, “Think over everything I told you just now… Wait here for me, I will be back in an hour.

Jason nodded his head and started to research more about marriage. He saw that writing their own vows made it more special at the wedding. So he asked for a paper and pen from the maid who brought some refreshments for him.

Once he got the paper and pen, he started to write, “To my dear Amy, I promise to…”

Amy could not understand why Jason refused to meet her even after saying her name to his assistant? At first, when she called to ask for an appointment, she was sure that he would recognize her and immediately give an appointment to her.

She waited for half an hour for their call back but no one contacted her. So she tried to call his office number once again. This time a rude lady picked up the phone and scolded her in bad words before hanging up the call. She did not know what she had to do now.

She made a mistake by not noting down his private number. She thought if she called him on his private number, then he would think that she is showing some interest in him. And it might be considered a little intimate. So, she took only his office number and thought to go through the normal procedures to get an appointment. Amy started to wonder if she made a mistake by copying only his office number on her phone?

She wanted to go back and get his private number. But she was afraid that her mother would find out what she was going to do. When she was struggling with her thoughts, her phone rang. She saw Jack’s number was being displayed on her phone. She sighed.

If she cannot talk to Jason today, then she would have to break up with Jack no matter what. Their relationship could not continue while she is getting prepared to marry Jason. The phone rang for a minute before it went silent. Again it started to ring in a few seconds. As she found that she had to face him now or later, she chose now and walked out of her home.

“Amy, what were you doing for so long? I have been waiting here for almost two hours now. You did not give me a call and neither picked my call to inform me that you would be late.” Jack complained.

Amy looked down and did not respond to him. Tears formed in her eyes and were threatening that it may fall at any time. She never liked to cry from childhood.

After her father fell ill, all she did was cry, cry, and cry. She hated herself. Without any warning, she looked up at Jack and said,

“Let us break up!

Jack stood stunned for a minute and then asked,

“What joke are you going to say now?"

Amy blinked her eyes as if she could not understand him.

"Let us break up," He said.

Amy's heart ached. Then he continued to say,

"It is not because of me but you... And then you are going to say, it is because my heart races for you and it is bad for my health!

Jason stopped and looked at her with twinkling eyes. Amy clenched her fist.

“I am serious, Jack. Let us break up.” Amy declared.

“I am also serious here. So stop making such funny jokes.” Jack said.

“I am getting married tomorrow,” Amy told him the truth.

She understood that it would be of no use to give him false hope anymore. It was better to finish it once and for all. Then cry her eyes out before marrying that heartless person who separated her from her lover and broke her heart.

“I said stop joking, Amy! I am not in the mood to hear your bad jokes and neither do I want to be pranked.” Jack shouted.

“I am not joking. As I said before I am very much serious. I promised my papa that I would marry the guy he chose, tomorrow. So this will be our last meeting. We will not see each other from now on. Everything between us is over.” Amy declared.

“Just because you say that we will not see each other, then do you think we won’t see each other? I love you, Amy and you love me too! You know that. How can you live happily with someone when you are in love with me?” Jack demanded.

“Who said anything about living happily? I am doing this marriage for my father and I want him to be happy. Nothing is more important in this world than him. You know that too.” Amy explained.

“Then what about our happiness? What about my happiness?” James asked.

“Sometimes, we need to make some sacrifices in our lives. I am sacrificing you so that I can fulfill my father’s wish. I don’t want to hurt my father who raised me for so many years without expecting anything in return. For his happiness, I would do anything he asks me to do.” Amy proclaimed.
