Chapter Five - Wine and Pizza.

"Hey Lila! Do you want these boxes to go in with the others?" I ask her, pointing down at the brown box labelled as FRAGILE. She pops her head around the front door, her hair wild and untamed around her shoulders. I'm helping her pack her things and move to my apartment and so far, it's been a crazy day.

"Yes please. Thank goodness you're here Mia because I'm a walking advert for stress right now." Lila blows out, reaching up to run both hands through her hair. I chuckle at her and lean down to pick the box up. It's slightly heavy so I readjust my arms and release a small grunt —

"It's no biggie, that's what friends are for." I tell her.

Lila smiles at me and turns to yell at the delivery guys who are currently carrying her furniture upside down. I chuckle under my breath and make my way outside, struggling to see round the cardboard box. After taking a few steps outside onto the lawn, I feel myself collide hard with something on the other side. I feel the box slip from my hands and my legs give way underneath me causing me to fall to the floor.

"Woah there! Easy, are you okay?" A voice calls out, bending down to retrieve the box. I glance upwards and find myself staring into bright green eyes. He pauses, giving me a small smile before placing the box down and offering me his hand. I slip mine in his and suddenly find myself growing warm as he pulls me back up to my feet.

"I'm so sorry. I didn't see you behind the stupid box." I apologise, wiping my hands on my jeans. I take a step back and study him subtly. He's wearing denim jeans and a casual shirt. His blonde hair is styled backwards and there's a glint in his green eyes that I'm immediately drawn to.

"That's okay, don't worry about it. Is my sister ordering you around too?" He says, taking me by surprise.

"Lila is your sister?" I ask him and he nods, bending down to pick up the box that I previously dropped.

"She sure is. I'm actually two years older than her but she acts like she's the older one. I'm Kian," He smiles, showing off a set of immaculate white teeth. I smile back at him, automatically standing up a little straighter.

"I'm Mia, your sisters new roommate."

"Ah! You're Mia." Kian responds, his eyes not so subtly dropping down to inspect me. I notice them flash with approval and I feel my cheeks beginning to grow warm.

Damn it Mia, do not turn into a blushing tomato right now.

"I've heard a lot about you. Thank you for looking out for my sister. It means a lot." Kian says, carrying the box under his arm effortlessly. If he's struggling with the contents, he doesn't show it in the slightest. I wave my hand around in the air, shrugging his words off —

"It's no bother, we're actually really good friends." I smile, leaning back against the garden fence.

"I should take you to dinner to thank you properly. What do you say?" Kian says smoothly, taking me by surprise. I pause and open my mouth to respond, slightly stunned to speak. Thankfully Lila interrupts us, carrying a plant that's almost the same height as her.

"Kian, stop hitting on my friends. If you want to take us both out for dinner, that'd be cool." Lila grins, shooting me an apologetic look. Kian rolls his eyes and turns around, walking towards the moving van with the box. As he goes, he glances over his shoulder and winks at me, green eyes connecting with mine. I smile and turn away, shaking my head slightly at his over confidence.

"He's a charmer." I tell Lila, stuffing my hands into my pockets. She nods her head, agreeing with me.

"Just ignore him. He can be overbearing sometimes but when you reject him enough times, he'll get the idea and move along."

I laugh, taking notes of her advice.

"So will I be seeing Kian often?"

"Probably. We're close so he's always coming round to mine. Is that okay?" Lila asks me, chewing on her bottom lip. My eyes flicker over to Kian who's moving boxes around in the back of the van. I watch his movements for a few seconds before responding, a little excitement lighting up inside my stomach —

"That's fine by me."

"That's the last box. You're all done." Kian says, placing it down onto my coffee table. Lila walks up to him, wrapping her arms around his neck.

"Thanks bro. You've been a lifesaver."

I drop myself down onto the couch, glancing around at my apartment that has now been invaded with most of Lila's belongings. I'm excited to start a new chapter of my life with a roommate but I'll also miss the independence and quiet living alone bought to my life. Kian says goodbye to Lila and I before leaving, shutting the door softly behind him. I give Lila a small smile, feeling exhausted from the days events.

"I've ordered a pizza and bought this bottle of wine specially for tonight." Lila says, holding up a bottle with two wine glasses. I let out a small cheer, fist pumping the air.

"Now you're talking my language." I grin, patting the seat on the couch next to me. Lila heads over, placing the glasses down onto the table. As she's opening the wine bottle, her features soften and she looks up at me —

"I want to thank you again for letting me stay with you Mia. Nobody else would be willing to do that for me."

"You're always welcome here Lila. You made me feel at home when I first joined Denny's so I owe you." I explain, giving her a reassuring smile. She sits next to me, leaning forward to pour us both a generous amount of wine. I can already smell the aroma and I lean forward, taking my glass.

"Are you really okay with it though? You've lived alone for months." Lila says, settling back against the pillows. I nod my head —

"I was lonely and I needed help with the bills. I couldn't keep lying to myself anymore." I tell her truthfully.

"Isn't your second job helping? Driving around Mr big shot?"

I laugh at her name for Caleb. Since being his driver every morning, I've confided in Lila several times about his mysterious aura. . .

Just incase I go missing one day and nobody knows where I am.

Caleb Stonehouse would definitely be a suspect.

"It has helped, I can't complain about the money. I guess helping a friend is really what made me decide to do it." I tell her. Lila smiles and leans forward, enveloping me into a hug with one arm. I instantly feel better because it truly is nice to have some human companionship. All day I'm surrounded by people at work but when I come home, there's nobody here but my plants.

Lila and I spend the next few hours talking about our lives and getting to know each other further than just employee's. I find out she's a Virgo, she loves dogs and her favourite movie is Dirty Dancing. For the first night in forever, I don't spend it alone. We continue talking and eating pepperoni pizza until the sun begins to peak through the curtains of my apartment.

I quickly head off to bed, feeling slightly tipsy and desperate to catch some hours of sleep before driving Caleb to work. I know it's not super responsible of me but I remind myself that I'm twenty two years old and I need some fun in my otherwise boring life.
