Chapter 2

"Honestly, mum I have this feeling, not pride. I'm not sure, why on earth should I seriously apologize to her she's my younger sister and its just a minimal error what's the big deal?, And mum why does it have to be me to be the apologetic one huh?

I asked my mum.

"Well I'll not ever get tired of telling you this jenny but you're the eldest, and you've got to take responsibilities.

you see as a child growing up, like you I had a little sister. whenever my mum went to fry akara (bean cake) and yams by the road side I took care of my younger sister, till around past 10. so you see taking care and always smiling with your loved ones is better than pissing off, or fighting with each other okay?".

" Yes mum I'll try I replied". "Thanks mum I said standing up to get to the door ".

"Dont forget to pull your uniforms and take them to the laundry" she reminded me, and instantly I remembered, I was still in my sweaty uniform.

stuff like this. I don't think she has ever rebuked Christy, it's always me!

"So you see taking care and always smiling with your loved ones is better than pissing off or fighting with each other, okay?" She concluded. I hadn't even been listening to what she had to say.

"Yes mum, I'll try." I replied. I quickly added: "but tell Christy to take caution ohh or I'll slap her right on the face."

"Thanks mum." I said, standing up to get to the door.

"And if you like slap her, don't you know she's my last born? I'll beat you very well too."

I ignored mum's last statement and went to my room to remove my clothes and wash them before having my bath, still feeling kind of sad about how mum had judged the whole matter between Christy and I.

EXCITEMENT.

Oh my God! I texted Violet using my mum's phone because I was really really excited and I didn't know who else to tell except my bestie, Violet so she could share the joy with me.

Me: "Oh my God, Vio... Can you believe it? I have good news, my dad just signed me up to write a common entrance to Jss1 from grade four. Isn't it superb? I'm even number sixty-five on the list," I said, with so much enthusiasm.

Violet: "Are you serious, that's mahd ohh... I'm happy for you. So, when is it? And how are you sef?"

Me:  "I'm fine na, obviously. Can't you see how excited I am? You.. you're not even excited for me, you're just sounding blur blur blur blogodo. Anyways, it's on the 25th of March and I want you to come with me, please."

Violet: "Okay, no problem. I'm very very excited now but you know there are a lot of good and bad things meaning negative and positive things but it's all good especially because you like it. I can't wait! I'll tell my mum about it then. Bye! Xoxo."

Me: "Byeeee... Can't wait to see you! And I hope your mum will agree in letting you come."

Violet's POV.

It was insanely very cold today and I've been under my very cosy blue blanket. I was also having a fever, then my phone beeped. Well it was weekend, a saturday to be precise and we were out of school, of course.

Back to what I was saying. Yeah, I was so excited because it was my bestie that texted me and I guess it was an exciting message but not really for me and she could tell from my voice.

She was going to be writing common entrance and perhaps, would leave me and our other classmates and friends in primary school and head for some kind of secondary school but I did not really want to say anything much so she will not feel bad.

Is she prepared both emotionally and mentally for Secondary School? I thought to myself.

Anyway, at least, I'll get to follow her and it was just next weekend.

Jenny's POV

Finally, the D-Day had come! All my studying! It had finally come to this! I will be done finally and apparently, I was really tensed cause I didn't know whether I'd pass or be sent back home. Well, I've practiced on equations even though I hated lessons in maths and I studied little of English language. I memorized English more because it seemed pretty more understandable to me compared to mathematics. Not too long ago, I had  reviewed the English language over again and paid attention to some parts I didn't study before in maths. I had prepared to the extent I possibly could and I tried my best to be optimistic about the whole situation.

I took in a deep breath and looked at myself in the bright and clear window on the opposite side of my bed and I got ready for the exams. It wasn't too long I entered my bathroom and put my tooth brush in my mouth before I heard a knock on my bedroom door.

Who could it be? I thought. I left the bathroom to the bedroom door and opened the door sluggishly, only to see Violet standing in front of me fully dressed up with her ripped jeans and baggy shirt and not to forget, her white canvas and the golden shoelace strapped to it.

Gosh! She had dressing skills.

I gave her a tight hug and she teased me about the toothbrush in my mouth. "Like seriously, how did you come here so fast like Flash? I barely just woke up." I retorted and we began to laugh at each other.

Violet's POV

My mum just droped me off at Jenny's house because the day of her common entrance had come.

I walked passed the welcoming courtyard and I greeted her dad who opened the door for me and he directed me to Jenny's room.

I was welcomed with the sound of the running tap in the bathroom. "Seriously, she's just bathing," I murmured.

I knocked and my bestie stood in front of me like a tired mosquito in her' "scruffy" pyjamas. And of course, there was a toothbrush in her mouth. "Hmm, this mumu has not even had her bath," I thought inwardly. She gave me a tight hug and we began preparing to leave for the exams.

Jenny's POV

"Where are the car keys to the Ford Edge?" Daddy yelled. I just kept wondering why this always happened in my house. Why do we always look for things things in this house?

Just last week, it was my mum's wristwatch and today, car keys, huh! Christy definitely heard daddy's yelling and checked the white coloured mini Alex wardrobe we normally kept our keys and she yelled, "found it!" Violet, on the other hand replied, "Let's get going then."

Christie handed over the keys to Dad and he scurried out of the house.

I quickly ran to Mummy and gave her a hug and she kissed me on the forehead and prayed for me.

I ran out with violet to the car where daddy was sitting comfortably on the driver's seat.
