Time out…

People are decent mostly, I say mostly because we all know that they are some really pricks out there. People are decent because they have never forgotten how to reach out, now and then they will even surprise you but then again sometimes they won’t.

Tongues of fire rose to make the sky look like a glistering city, as we walked from school that Saturday evening heading home. On my arrival, I found a note on the table informing me that my parents had gone to the village to take care of my granny who was ill and had no one to look after. I was now home alone left with a companion who was my beloved pet Simba. Surely I do not remember the day I went for summer but that day I retired to bed earlier than usual, since I was kind of feeling unwell.

In the middle of the night, I was awoken by a violent noise. I tiptoed until to the door and peeped through the keyhole, I was shocked to find three masked gigantic men who were armed to the tooth gnashed as fear filled me to the brim. I surely knew without a shadow of a doubt that I was between the devil and the deep blue. My heart was pumping tom-tom the West African drums. I paused a bit as if weighing the impact of my action then I chose to go and hide under the bed in my room. After a dilly-dallying, the door flung open as the cold breeze of air entering in. as I was about to go and lock the door. The three armed gigantic men emerged. One of them was a tubby man who had a protuberant stomach, thick mustache, and red piercing eyes that could make water evaporate and never condense.

The man got hold of me as my heart palpitated as I waited anxiously. After a tiny second, the man asked me with a harsh tone “where is the video cassette that was recorded on the crime scenery?” my father is the best judge of the century had been given the video cassette by the criminal investigation department and his it at a safer place. Since I did not know its residence I stood out for myself bravely and answered courageously” I don’t know”, suddenly I saw the man smiling sardonically and then asked the question for the second time and got no answer. The man got up with fury and rage as I received uncountable blows and kicks which made me scowled in pain and fell with a thud.

Being the best Tae-Kwando kid in my school I stood up bravely as my heart was pumping madly, hungrily like a cheetah running after its prey. I was petrified, I got up and kicked the two men who were aside and gave the third a super deli blow which sent him to the ground as I emerged in the back door running crazily as if chased by a thousand unseen demons. As I was running bad luck fell on me since I trembled and fell. One of the men who was eyeball to eyeball with me got hold of me and tied me to a nearby tree whereby I was subjected to severe torture. The men burned me with pieces of cigarettes as I was rained on with blows and kicks. I was huffing and puffing like a wounded animal. I oozed a lot of blood.

I tried to think of what I had done to deserve this; deep inside my heart hope flickered like a candle flame resisting the strong winds. Within a fraction of a second, I jumped ecstasy when I saw my dog Simba accompanied by a man who was my close neighbor coming for my rescue unarmed, I heard a ping of the bullet as I saw my neighbor kissing the innocent ground in a neat bloody suit bleeding profusely. The thought of his death sent warm salty teats rolling down my eyes forming a great number eleven. The thought of the fresh red soil was a fact too much for me to handle.

Suddenly I heard the men saying to each other “hey, let’s finish him and leave this place” by then I knew without a shadow of a doubt that I was going to taste the bitter cup of demise. I closed my eyes uttered some words as I waited to be sent to the west. Then without wasting time the protuberant man came in holding a pistol aimed at my medulla oblongata ready to fire at any time when…
